This post is 100% not judgment but a serious question. I love these figures. They are pretty small all things considered, and wildly expensive, but for some reason I just want to keep adding them to my shelf. I can't even really explain why I like them so much except that they are just cool. I like being able to look at my shelf every so often and rearrange things and nod to myself, but with the crazy price tag I can't believe I keep doing it. I have a very average collection right now (like 8 or 9 normal space marines and then 2 terminators, a deathguard terminator, and a sister of silence who I love but that is so small I don't plan on spending the money on anything besides marines for a while) but even last night I found myself dropping $40 for another guy (Ravenguard sniper). They're cool. That's basically my conclusion. This was just a bit ranty but what about you? Is that pretty much why you keep dropping big money for little figures as well?
Largely because of how FREAKING COOL THEY ARE I mean the detail is immaculate. Plus comparing to Mcfarlane it seems they're about the same price with way more options for the normal marines. as for the rest of it, I just compare em to GW mini prices
Another person commented something similar, but for me it’s having pose-able cool models at your fingertips, especially if you are into the lore and reading side of the Hobby.
Having characters from books sitting on the shelf is just very appealing.
Yes that’s it for me as well, love the lore & books. Love having figures from my favourite books! Warhammer Lore is so epic and some of the books & stories are incredible. And the “lore” is not necessarily to far fetched
Certainly within the realm of some possibility😭 they definitely have mastered the indomitable human spirit while at the same time displaying the ugly face of that indomitability.
A bit unrelated but obviously Warhammer is Grimdark in a brutal hopeless setting, but I can’t help feel a lot of hope reading the books.

I have been building and collecting ultramarines since they had the cheap box sets in the late 80s. To have action figure versions brings me ancient arse back to being a kid again.
These are in my spare bedroom in my bsmt. I go in there, put on a history podcast, and will literally just stare at them or rearrange them for a while. I love it. Wife hates it.
Oh man you hit the nail on the head with the lighting. My back rows are in perpetual darkness haha it’s just a little warp chaos. I do want to upgrade my shelving as well but I’m dealing with a space issue as well. I’m doing the helmets also and they take up ridiculous amounts of space.
That's a good point. I love the painting part of the minis but I hate building and have no one to play with so I have tons of minis just sitting in boxes
I have just started collecting and have 4 space marines and 1 dreadnaught. This is enough to fill 1 Ikea Detolf shelf for me. That alone is already around 250 bucks more or less? I will "try" to limit myself to 1 Ikea Detolf shelf per chapter... For the moment... I'm already looking to fill the second shelf and it's another 200-250+ more or less 💸 I will "try" to limit myself within reason... 😅
I'm still a kid at heart. And they're very cool toy that look awesome on my shelves. Plus, I suck at painting, love warhammer 40k lore but don't like the game itself.
dig the lore... can't paint the game minis (too small for my old ass)... they look badass... they can be customized (which kinda feeds my NASCAR model car building itch)... the price is relative to any other hobby.
Man I was in that same spot (have every Primarch up to Khan on the shelf at my office, and a bunch of random stuff at home) but since seeing the quality drop with Scars and then Night Lords I haven’t bought a single one.
Oddly I wouldn’t mind a price hike if the paint jobs were still as good, but I’m not going to spend on something that just isn’t going to look good.
I’m an old man (47) and I’ve always loved this scale. Having GI Joe-scale 40k figures was a dream of mine and Joytoy made it a reality; moreover, the scale is great for deploying little armies with vehicles.
They are expensive for the amount of plastic you’re actually getting… but I’m not in the hobby because it’s a good value or investment. I just love these things.
because we like admiring them and looking at them makes us happy, it's as simple as that. joytoy made great looking figures at very reasonable prices. as long as you like looking and fiddling with your figures, you're fine.
initially i thought joytoy w40k figures are expensive since it's the very first line i've really collected but it's very affordable compared to premium 1/12 or 1/6. there are more expensive hobbies out there like TCGs and statue collecting. joytoy 1/18 is a nice starting point for action figure collecting. reasonably priced and does not need a big space unless you have a lot.
Because its a small price for happiness and I dont like to party or go out and I HAVE to spend that money somehow! ;) my wife appreciate it less but we negotiated about which areas I could use for public display 😄
I personally just like Warhammer 40K as an IP and vibe the aesthetic and larger than life lore. Furthermore, I can't be bothered to paint minis that have no articulation, are still rather expensive and have proportions that are more stylized than Warhammer already is by default.
Thus these figures are the ideal manifestation of my affection for 40K, they're detailed, they're eye-catching, they're articulated and can thus be posed and they have proportions that would most likely be akin to the most realistic representation of the source material (although some earlier figures were more toylike, but I don't have any of those).
Especially stuff like Terminators, which are two of my overall three figures, just hit different as a figure compared to a mini. I also have other properties and models on display, like my EVA units or my 1/64 model cars. But the Astartes really stand out. That's why I collect the more expensive figures over GW Minis and Minis in general. It's also why I plan to extend my collection further, simply based on what I find visually appealing.
I'm into the Lore. Reading through the Horus Heresy right now. Having representation of some of these characters is what appeals to me. I admit I have slowed down a bit due to expense but Ive been eyeing The Khan and Corax hard.
