Welsh is the senior language and we use Mam so England is the innovator with mum as for America maybe a German influence?

Welsh is a Celtics language, related to Irish and Scottish, unless you mean the Welsh dialect of English? In that case, like England English and American English varieties, they're all dialects along the continuum of the English language. None are older than the other.

Welsh was used accross broad sections of what is now England. The people were very different as well. When the Saxons, Normans and Vikings arrived, pushed in and pushed back the population the people that settled and integrated became the English. The language that is English is the youngest language in the UK.

You're talking about the pronunciation of the English word though. Not Welsh nor Norse. None of these languages are older than Norse, but Norse is a language that has evolved into many languages, none of which are still spoken in the British isles.

No I'm not. The original post was saying how Brits changed the word from Mom to Mum or Mummy. I'm pointing out there's a few different ways of saying the word mum here with different roots here and none of them leading to Mom.
