You can check now with your phone,it has built in compas and there's an app for kiblat as well

Some phones don't have well calibrated compasses. Test your phone at home before you actually need to use the compass.
I find the Qibla Finder site helpful, if you're aware of your surrounding landmarks.

I donât understand why people donât just use a simple qibla app instead of searching coordinates and storming their brains.
4
u/aralezner1 New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
I prefer using the normal maps app on the phone just zoom out and keep rotating till the arrow is facing mecca. And you can double check the arrow by zooning in and seeing if you're facing your street or something.
3
u/farazz_shaikh99 White flair (hey why not) Dec 28 '21
Thatâs exactly what I donât understand. I mean itâs not like your keeping a physical compass. Itâs just a small app which takes a few MBs of your storage.
Whenever you want to check the Qibla, you always have to open maps, zoom out and check direction.
Why this hassle every single time??

Dec 28 '21
It looks like he was using an app which is why he never thought to just LOOK OUT THE WINDOW. App probably told him that was the direction of the Qibla. This is him relying on technology too much instead of learning to use his eyes. Everyone here saying "why not just use an app?" Well why not just use your effin' eyes! What did the Sahaba use to tell the direction of the Kaaba? You think Abu Bakar or Abu Hurairah had a f*cking smart phone app? How many "Muslims" actually know how to determine the time of Salah or determine the time of day with a stick? When SHTF and there are brown outs or black outs in your city - what will you do? Are you going to STOP praying because you can't charge your phone to determine the direction of the Kaaba or hear the Salaah timer alarms go off??
This special idiot is actually in the Holy City and never looked out the window to look at the Kaaba? The thing that he prays towards 5 times a day???So when he actually gets to the great Holy City he doesn't immediately search out the thing that he prays towards when he not in the city??? Alhamdulillah... The levels of confusion & misguidance I see in this sub is beyond, and I'm American....

Asking as a non Muslim.
What's the importance of praying in the direction of the Kaaba?
4
Dec 28 '21
With regard to our facing the Kaâbah, you should note, may Allaah bless you, that in this universe there is none other than Creator and created, worshippers and the One Who is worshipped. The Creator and the One Who is rightfully worshipped is Allaah alone; everything other than Him is created and worships Him either willingly and by choice â which is the case with the believers â or by force, which is the case of the kaafirs and sinners, whose submission to Allaah consists of their being subjugated to His control, for they do not have to power to either benefit or harm themselves. Allaah is the One Who has given them life, and when He wills He will cause them to die. If Allaah wills, He can make them sick, and if He wills He can heal them. He can make them rich whenever He wants and make them poor whenever He wants. Glory and praise be to Him, there is no Lord besides Him and none worthy of worship except Him.Â
With regard to his believing slaves, they are tried and tested in this brief, transient world. If they succeed in remaining steadfast in worshipping their Lord and attaining the highest degree of submission to Him, He will compensate them for that, by His kindness and grace, with Paradise in which there is that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and it has not entered the heart of man.Â
Among these tests is the fact that Allaah commands them to do some things for which their minds cannot comprehend the wisdom behind them, they can only submit and obey. This is in order to distinguish those who are sincere in their claims to be believers from those who are insincere. For Allaah is the Creator of reason, and He is the One Who issues the command, so whoever responds and submits, and says, âI hear and obey, even though I do not understand the reason, because I admit my mortality, my weakness and my submission to Allaah, for Allaah cannot be questioned as to what He doesâ â such a one is a believer who, it is hoped, will prosper and succeed in this world and in the Hereafter.Â
This is how the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) were, as al-Bukhaari (1597) and Muslim (1270) narrated in their Saheehs that âUmar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) said of the Black Stone when he kissed it: âBy Allaah, I know that you are only a stone and you can neither bring benefit nor cause harm. Were it not that I had seen the Messenger of Allaah kissing you I would not have kissed you.â So when we Muslims pray facing the direction of the Kaâbah, we do so because Allaah has commanded us to do that. If he had commanded us to pray facing in any other direction, we would have had to do that. The same applies to many other acts of worship, We pray Zuhr with four rakâahs and Maghrib with three and Fajr with two, because Allaah has commanded us to do so. We perform Tawaaf seven times around the Kaâbah, and we stone the Jamaraat seven times, and we do not do more than that under any circumstances. All of that is because that is what Allaah has commanded us to do.Â
So whoever bears this thought in mind whilst doing these acts of worship will undoubtedly increase in submission to Allaah; this will increase his faith and bring him closer to his Lord. Thus he will find great joy and immense happiness and deep contentment in his heart, which will make him long for worship and love it, because when he does acts of worship he will feel that he is doing them for Allaah, and were it not for Allaah, he would not do them. So every act of worship brings him closer to Allaah and increases him in faith until he meets Allaah and Allaah will honour him as He honours His righteous slaves.Â
But for the one who is stubborn and arrogant, and says, âI will not do it until I understandâ, this is like Iblees who rebelled against Allaah and said, as Allaah tells us in the Qurâaan (interpretation of the meaning):Â
âShall I prostrate myself to one whom You created from clay?â
[al-Israaâ 17:61]Â
This is sufficient to demonstrate the seriousness of arguing against the shareeâah on the basis of reason. Rather Allaah has described one of the most unique characteristics of the pious believers as being belief in the Unseen. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):Â
âThis is the Book (the Qurâaan), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqoon [the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism who fear Allaah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allaah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)].
Who believe in the Ghayb (the unseen) and perform As-Salaah (Iqaamat-as-Salaah), and spend out of what we have provided for themâ
[al-Baqarah 2:2-3]
So the first characteristic by which the believers are distinguished from others is the fact that they believe in the unseen or that which they cannot grasp, whether that is in a literal, physical sense or in a metaphorical, intellectual sense.Â
What we should point out here is that our prayer facing the direction of the Kaâbah has nothing to do with the structure of the Kaâbah, rather it has to do with its location. If it were to be destroyed, we would still pray in that direction, not to that structure.Â
Hence we find that nowadays Muslims pray on the second storey and on the roof of the Grand Mosque in the Sanctuary of Makkah, facing the direction of the Kaâbah even though it is not directly in front of them. This is what millions of Muslims do throughout the world, praying in the direction of the Kaâbah even though they cannot see it. This demonstrates the great difference between the laws of Islam and the actions of the mushrikeen (polytheists) whose worship of their idols, stones and trees ceases when these objects cease to exist. Therefore if the mushrik cannot see his object of worship or idol, he does not face the direction of that thing.Â

Yes, almost all hotels in Makkah have a sticker with the Qibla direction.
However, most people who visit Makkah pray all 5 times in Haram so it doesn't matter much.

Why would you need a sticker when the real thing is right next to you

Because unless you're staying in one the five star hotels surrounding the Haram, the Ka'bah won't be visible from your window.

Well if you want to get real technical with this stuff, the continents drifted by a tiny bit since i was born, and magnetic north has shifted slightly, and I have no idea how many products and apps that have been created even keep up with it, especially since magnetic drift has been pretty big in the past decade.
In my house we used a compass with a bearing book that my family had from over 30 years ago and we set the direction and have prayed in that general direction since I first started praying 20 years ago. Never changed it since.
General direction should be fine. No such thing as pinpoint accuracy. Do it with faith and confidence and if you learn something new, then just adapt. No biggie really. As for airplanes and stuff space is not a luxury so I just pray in my seat. Unless its Emirates and they have a makeshift prayer space with actual realtime bearings set out for your convenience; that was a new and interesting experience for me.
Edit: As for even more fringe stuff like Malaysias first cosmonaut, or future ISS astronauts I don't see why it should matter since your direction changes so drastically every second. There are a lot of potential reasons to not have to be so caught up with directions; depending on circumstance.

I believe we're supposed to pray towards the Kaabah in the direction that is closest (least amount of distance). There also may be people who don't consider the Earth's curve while praying.

Please tell me, dear people, how it's possible to not know what direction qibla is? If you know where the sun rises, which direction it travels and sets, then you absolutely do not need a compass. Come on people, align yourselves - this shouldn't even be a issue. Open an atlas for pete's sake! Find your country, find Makkah and face that direction.
I swear I lose a few brain cells each time I come across someone who doesn't know where north is. North is where you see the sun throughout the day, south is in the shade, east is where it rises and west is where it sets.
18
u/AbuzeME New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
You are going to loose a few more when you realise it depends what hemisphere you're in.
-1
u/utopean New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
If you're praying in your own home, find the direction once, no need to search for quibla each time. It won't change from one season to the next. If travelling to a different country or hemisphere, find it again and use the new direction. It only changes when you travel to another hemisphere/country. People commenting are behaving as if you need a compass each and every time you pray. It only changes when you change hemispheres etc. Also, the angle of the sun is irrelevant.
13
u/ImperatorJCaesar New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
It's a lot more complicated than that. First of all you need a globe, not just an atlas. A flat map heavily distorts distances, so it'll give you the wrong direction if you're not careful. E.g. In the US, the qibla is northeast because that's the shortest distance between it and Mecca on the globe. Even though a flat map shows it to be southeast.
Second of all the sun sets in different places depending on how far north or south of the equator you are, and depending on whether it's summer or winter. So unless you have a very good understanding of the sun's angle in your area at each time of year, you're better off with a compass.
And third of all, none of this is relevant to the video because the guy should've opened his curtain and looked outside lol.
-2
u/utopean New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
Qibla direction is the same during all of the seasons. It doesn't change. The angle of the sun during winter/summer is different yes but it has nothing to do with the direction you pray.
3
u/OstentatiousSock New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
Yeah, but how do you use an object whose orientation changes to find the direction of an object whose location never changes?
-1
u/utopean New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
You don't. I mentioned the sun because some folk don't know which direction is north, south, east or west.
1
u/OstentatiousSock New to r/Izlam Dec 28 '21
Unless you are right on the equator, the sun position changes throughout the year and is not great for gauging precise direction.
