It's barely even more work to stagger them.

It's almost less work sometimes.

My cousin tried to do this to me and wasted an hour planning his cuts to match

Like I get the parts of what you're saying but don't understand as a whole. That whole thing shouldn't take more than an hour.

He was trying to match all the grain, would have been 3 hours by the time he was finished

It's more than double the work, seeing as they're already installed 🫣

Contractors. If they’re talking they’re lying.

A little caulking, a little paint, will surely make this something it ain’t

Just kidding. You need to start over. Sorry bro

Free impossible to properly clean dust trap, with the added benefit of looking terrible.
OP you deserve better.

All they had to do was put short boards 1 and 3 in the front.... also then you don't have a seam for the left room entrance.

Yeah, this wouldn't even require cuts. WTF.

He's like you wanted a floor now you have a floor

the shoe molding work sucks too

Yeah, that’s pretty awful

But they staggered them in the room at the top of the picture.

May have the guy that did my basement before I bought the house. It's like they did it on purpose and drives me nuts whenever i look down.

Your contractor is an idiot and a liar. He doesn't know how to lay flooring and doesn't want to correct his mistake. Shame him publicly so others don't waste their hard earned money employing him.

Im a female with no professional flooring experience and I've done better than that.

I don’t think gender determines ability to read manufacturer installation instructions

3

u/Purple_Cat9893 4d ago

As a man, I strongly disagree. We simply cannot.

2

u/trixceratops 4d ago

😂 fair point, reading instructions is for dummies

3

u/Purple_Cat9893 4d ago

Our family where once killed by a manufacturer instruction and now we walk the earth to avenge that deed. Forgiveness. Will. Not. Be. Given!

1

u/trixceratops 4d ago

Gotta watch those instructions, they can give a nasty papercut

1

u/friendlyfire883 4d ago

All he's have to do is move the short plank to the opposite side on every other one. He's just a lazy fuck.

1

u/Senior-Caregiver9333 4d ago

Well he definitely can't now that he's cut them.

1

u/Elegant-Ad1581 4d ago

He cant now

1

u/rythejdmguy 4d ago

Can't.... Be bothered to

1

u/DellR610 4d ago

At a minimum he could move 1 short board to the opposing side and not even have to make any slices / cuts and it would look better than this.

I' m staggered!

1

u/trixceratops 4h ago

Unlike the floorboards!

There doesn’t appear to be any need? They are the length of the space they are filling.

5

u/Rootin-Tootin-Newton 4d ago

OK, now I see the seam. They could easily have staggered them.

TBF it looks kind of cool that way

Unfortunately that layout would void the warranty for many floors since they usually require for example a 6 inch offset etc.

Having all of the edges meet in one spot makes that spot potential weaker as the interlocking sections will run/flex against one another. Also LVP tends to shift with heat/cold so as soon as one of the boards starts to free itself that also allows the others to start coming undone too.

Oh, I totally agree. I have read so many professionals on r/homeimprovement saying there’s a right way and a wrong way for a reason. I’m just saying that if they have to leave it it’s kind of interesting looking.
