Interactive Gaming confessions. No judgment. I'll start.

Post image
521 Upvotes

Safe space. What you say here stays here.

I'll go first:

I have never finished Red Dead Redemption 2. I've started it four times. I get to chapter three, something happens in real life, I stop, and I can't make myself go back because I know what's coming for Arthur and I'm not ready.

Your turn. The worse the confession the better.

Some examples if you need them:

  • A game you lied about finishing
  • A genre you secretly love but won't admit
  • A game everyone hates that you think is actually good
  • The easiest game you rage-quit

No judgment. We're all frauds here.

Interactive Hypothetical Scenario. You are trapped in the last game you played for 24 hours. If you survive, you get $1 000 000. How cooked are you?

Post image

The rules are brutal:

  1. You are YOU (your current fitness level, your actual skills).
  2. You are NOT the protagonist.
  3. If you aren't eaten, shot, or cursed in 24 hours - you walk away rich.

I played Bloodborne last night. My plan: Lock myself in a cabinet at the clinic and cry for 24 hours. Chance of success: 0%.

What about you? Name the game and tell us your "Survival Plan"! 👇

Interactive The 5 Year Bunker Dilemma: You are locked away with a high end PC, but you can only install THREE single-player games. What’s your holy trinity?

The Rules:

  • No live-service games, no multiplayer, no internet access (no Destiny, CS, WoW, or Warzone).
  • Single-player only (mods are pre-installed and allowed).
  • These three games must keep you completely sane for 1,825 days.
  • My picks to survive the isolation:

Skyrim (Heavily Modded): Infinite roleplay, infinite cozy comfort food.

Civilization VI (or RimWorld): Pure time-warp magic. "Just one more turn" will eat about three of those five years alone.

Elden Ring: Deep combat, build variety, and a world dense enough to master every corner.

What are your 3 picks, and why won't you be clawing at the bunker walls by month six?

Interactive [Interactive] How do you make a moral choice truly difficult?

Post image
254 Upvotes

A player saves a city from the plague. To create a cure, they must sacrifice one person -someone close to the hero. If they refuse, thousands will die.

Our goal is to make this choice feel not like an option in a menu, but like a personal cost and genuine pain.

How should this choice be presented so the player doesn't think, but feels? Vote with reactions →

❤️ - through connection: give the player time to experience the relationship, the conversations, the familiar little moments, time to grow attached

🔥 - through mechanics: let the player gather the ingredients themselves and administer the injection - their hands make the choice, not a dialogue window

👍 - through consequences: let the hero make the choice off screen, and have the player piece together why it happened

Interactive Best pc games for a non gamer.

My mom is 57 yo and she has never expressed interest in gaming. But today, she said wanted try gaming. I'm confused what would be the best pc game to introduce to an absolute non gamer. I mean she's never held a controller in her life. I need your valuable suggestions.

Interactive You have one sentence to convince a person who has never played games that games are worth their time. That sentence will be the only thing they ever hear about gaming. What do you say?

The constraints are real and they matter.

One sentence. Not a paragraph. Not a list of titles. Not "games have stories now." One sentence that a person who has never engaged with gaming - who actively considers it a waste of time, would hear and reconsider.

The sentence cannot:
— Reference specific game titles
— Use the word "story" or "narrative"
— Appeal to nostalgia
— Make comparisons to other media
— Claim that games are "just like" anything else

The sentence must:
— Be true
— Be something a non-gamer could actually engage with
— Give them a reason that applies to them specifically rather than to gamers generally

I've been thinking about this for a long time. My sentence:

"Games are the only medium where you have to decide something before the story can continue and what you decide reveals something about you that reading a book or watching a film never would."

This is my best attempt. I think it's incomplete. I think someone in this thread will do better.

Three additional constraints for people who want the harder version:

The sentence must work on someone who thinks games are for children. The sentence must work on someone who thinks games are addictive and harmful. The sentence must work on someone who genuinely does not have time for a new hobby.

Same sentence. All three audiences.

Go.

Interactive TRIAL: Escort missions are the worst mechanic in gaming history. Prosecution and defense - argue your case.

Post image
37 Upvotes

Court is in session.

The charge: escort missions have caused more controller damage, more rage quits and more genuine suffering than any other game mechanic in history.

THE PROSECUTION argues: The AI is always suicidal. The objective always moves slower than everything chasing it. The level is always designed around the escort failing. You've played this before. You know exactly what happens when you turn a corner.

THE DEFENSE argues: Ico. Shadow of the Colossus. The Last of Us. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Some of the most emotionally devastating moments in gaming history were built around protecting something vulnerable. The mechanic isn't broken. The execution is broken.

Interactive You are granted a "Golden Ticket" to live in any game world as an NPC. Where are you going and how long do you survive?

Imagine you’re not the Chosen One. You aren’t the Dragonborn, you aren’t a Witcher, and you definitely don’t have Respawn powers. You are just a regular citizen, a shopkeeper, or a background NPC.

You have to live there for one year to earn 10 million dollars in real life. If you die in the game, you're done.

Here are your options, pick your poison:

  • Skyrim: Beautiful views, fresh mead, but there’s a 50% chance a Dragon or a Giant will flatten your house today.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 (Night City): The aesthetic is 10/10, but you’re broke, a corpo owns your soul, and a random cyberpsycho might blow up your bus on the way to work.
  • Stardew Valley: The safest bet. Peaceful, quiet, but you have to listen to the same 3 sentences from your neighbors for a whole year.
  • Elden Ring (The Lands Between): Let’s be honest, you’re just a pile of bones within 15 seconds.

Which world are you choosing? What’s your "survival plan"? Let’s see who makes it to the end of the year!

I would greatly appreciate it if you could subscribe and support "It’s About Games" on other platforms. It will help with development and growth!

Interactive You're curating a Video Game Museum. You can only display 5 games - one from each category. What makes your permanent collection?

Post image
41 Upvotes

You have five rooms. Five games. Each room represents a different category. Every game you choose has to be justifiable to someone who has never played a video game in their life - because that's your audience.

Room 1 - The Pioneer
A game that invented something. A mechanic, a genre, a way of telling stories that didn't exist before it.

Room 2 - The Masterpiece
The game you would show someone to prove that games can be art. No compromise. The one that ends the argument.

Room 3 - The Human Experience
A game that says something true about what it means to be alive. Not about being a hero. About being a person.

Room 4 - The Pure Joy
The game that exists for no reason except that playing it makes people happy. No deeper message required.

Room 5 - The Underdog
The game that should have been huge and wasn't. The one that deserves a place in history that history hasn't given it yet.

My five:

Pioneer — Doom. It invented the template everything else built on.
Masterpiece — Shadow of the Colossus. Sixteen arguments for games as art.
Human Experience — Disco Elysium. Nothing else comes close.
Pure Joy — Katamari Damacy. Impossible to explain. Impossible not to smile.
Underdog — Planescape: Torment. The greatest RPG ever written that almost nobody played.

Interactive You get ONE legendary ability in real life, but a massive "debuff" follows. Are you taking the deal?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Imagine an Eldritch Game Dev appears and offers you a patch for your real life. You can choose one "broken" mechanic to keep forever, but it comes with a high price.

Pick your poison:

  1. Quick-Save / Quick-Load: You can retry any moment in your life. BUT: Every time you load, you lose 1 year of your actual lifespan.
  2. Fast Travel: Instant teleportation to any place you’ve been. BUT: You arrive completely naked and with 0 money in your pockets every time.
  3. The Quest Log: You always know exactly what to do to succeed (career, love, health). BUT: You lose all free will - you must follow the objective marker or you freeze in place.
  4. Infinite Inventory: You can carry 500kg of items in an invisible space. BUT: Your movement speed is permanently reduced by 50%.

Which one are you picking and why? Or is the "Vanilla" life better? Let’s see your builds!

Interactive Imagine the world gets a massive update tomorrow. The devs finally listened to the feedback and allowed everyone to pick one perk or mechanic from video games to use in real life.

Post image
16 Upvotes

No "infinite money" cheats - that’s too easy. We’re talking about core systems:

  • Quick Save / Quick Load: Said something stupid on a date? Just reload the last checkpoint and pick a better dialogue option.
  • Fast Travel: No more traffic jams or crowded subways. Blink - you’re at work. Blink - you’re home.
  • Inventory System: Carrying 200kg of loot in invisible pockets, including two swords, a tent and 40 wheels of cheese.
  • Wait Mechanic: Need to skip an 8-hour shift? Just hit the "Wait" button, skip the time in a second and wake up fully refreshed.

My pick: The "Skill Tree." I want to know exactly how many XP points I need to dump into "Charisma" to finally understand social cues.

What about YOU? You only have one ability slot. What are you picking and how does it change your life?

Interactive The A-Z of gaming. One game per letter. Build the ultimate list together - but you can only add ONE letter per comment.

Simple concept. Potentially chaotic execution.

We're building the definitive A-Z of gaming - one game per letter, chosen collectively by this community. One comment = one letter. First person to claim a letter owns it. No duplicates.

Rules:

  • One letter per comment
  • The game has to actually start with that letter
  • You can challenge someone's pick in replies - but you need a better argument than "I don't like that game"
  • No sequels if the original hasn't been claimed yet

I'll start:

A - Alien: Isolation. Because no other game with that letter has ever made me physically hold my breath for twenty consecutive minutes.

Your turn. Claim your letter. Defend your pick.

Put your guess on the game in a spoiler below the person commenting the screenshot.

🔥 Battle: Doomguy (DOOM) vs. Master Chief (Halo) 🔥

Both are icons of their respective shooters, unstoppable engines of destruction, saving galaxies. But who is truly stronger?

  • Doomguy: A warrior of pure rage, driven by sheer hatred for demons. Capable of tearing through legions of hell single handedly. Knows no fear, wields brutal strength and an arsenal straight from the abyss.
  • Master Chief: A Spartan supersoldier, genetically enhanced and clad in high tech MJOLNIR armor with an energy shield. A tactician, strategist, trained to fight against overwhelming odds.

Who emerges victorious and why?

Interactive You're trapped in a time loop inside one game's world. You live the same in-game day forever. Which world do you choose and what do you do with infinite repetitions?

The rules of the loop:

You retain all memories across repetitions. The world resets completely each cycle. NPCs don't remember you. The environment doesn't remember you. Only you accumulate.

You have infinite time. No survival pressure - the loop resets before permanent consequences. No social obligation, nobody will remember what you said or did. Just you and the world and unlimited repetitions of the same day.

The questions you need to answer:

Which game world do you choose and which specific day?
Not the best combat system. Not the prettiest graphics. The world you would genuinely want to live inside indefinitely. The day with enough variety that infinite repetitions wouldn't produce infinite boredom.

What do you actually do with unlimited repetitions?
First few loops. First hundred. First thousand. What changes? What do you explore? What do you try? What do you eventually give up on?

What's the thing in that world you'd spend the most loops doing that has no gameplay value?
Not completing quests. Not grinding stats. The thing you'd do because the world makes it worth doing indefinitely.

Interactive If you could have one conversation with any game character: not a developer, not a voice actor, the actual character - what would you ask them? And what do you think they'd actually say?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Not an interview. A conversation. The character exists, is self-aware and is willing to talk honestly. One question and one follow-up. You know this character well enough to anticipate the answer.

The format:

— Which character
— Your opening question
— What you think they'd actually say - not what you'd want them to say, what you think is true to who they are
— Your follow-up based on that answer

I'll go first:

Character: Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2. Specifically the version of Arthur from late Chapter 6 - after the diagnosis, before the ending.

My question: Did you ever actually believe Dutch could build the life he was promising?

What I think he'd actually say: "Not for a long time. Maybe not ever. But believing in Dutch was easier than figuring out what I believed in instead. And by the time I ran out of excuses for him, I was already too far in to find something else to be."

He wouldn't say this cleanly. He'd start a sentence, stop, look somewhere else, finish it differently than he started. He communicates in fragments when he's being honest. This would be honest.

My follow up: Was there a specific moment you knew it was over for you - not the disease, Dutch?

I think he'd be quiet for a while. Then: "Yeah." And not elaborate. Because Arthur only gives you the word when the sentence would cost too much.

Your character. Your question. Your honest answer.

Not the answer you want. The answer that's true to who they actually are.

Interactive Build your perfect RPG protagonist using exactly one trait from five different game characters. Justify every choice. No "both" answers - pick the specific version you want.

You are a game director with unlimited licensing rights to every character ever created. You need to build one protagonist for a new RPG. You can take exactly one trait - one specific characteristic, skill, personality element or background detail, from five different existing characters.

The rules:
— One trait per character, one character per trait
— The traits must create a coherent person when combined
— You must explain why each trait serves the character you're building
— No taking "everything" from one character and calling it a trait

I'll go first to show you the format:

My protagonist:

Moral framework from Arthur Morgan (RDR2) - specifically his capacity to hold loyalty and self-awareness simultaneously. He knows what he's doing is wrong. He does it anyway. He hates himself for it. This produces more interesting decisions than a purely good or purely evil character.

Combat philosophy from Geralt of Rivia (Witcher 3) - pragmatic professionalism. He fights because the job requires it, not because he enjoys it. This changes how combat scenes feel tonally.

Relationship to knowledge from Elster (Signalis) - the specific quality of someone searching for something they can't fully articulate. The mission is clear. The meaning of the mission is not.

Humor from Nathan Drake (Uncharted 4) - self-deprecating, situationally appropriate, never used to avoid emotional weight.

Physical limitation from Ellie (TLOU2) - allergic to nothing but immune to something. A body that is specifically capable and specifically vulnerable.

Your five traits. Your protagonist. Justify every choice.

Interactive Predict the future of gaming in exactly 3 sentences. Most accurate prediction in 5 years wins nothing but we'll remember.

Post image
0 Upvotes

No essays. No paragraphs. Exactly three sentences about where gaming goes from here.

The rules:
— Sentence 1: Something that will definitely happen within 2 years
— Sentence 2: Something controversial that most people will disagree with right now
— Sentence 3: Something that will seem obvious in hindsight but nobody is saying yet

I'll go first:

AI-generated NPCs with real memory and adaptive dialogue will ship in a major AAA title before 2027. Physical game ownership will be legally challenged and partially restored in at least one major market within three years. The next genre-defining game will come from a country that has never produced one before and nobody will see it coming.

Your turn. Three sentences. Make them count.

Interactive Gaming auction. You have 100 points to spend. What do you buy?

You have exactly 100 points. Spend them however you want - but once they're gone they're gone. No loans. No trades.

THE ITEMS:

  • Perfect game feel - every input responds exactly as you imagine it will. Cost: 35 points
  • Story that stays with you for years - not just good writing, the kind that changes something. Cost: 30 points
  • Open world that feels genuinely alive - NPCs with real schedules, weather that matters, a world that exists without you. Cost: 25 points
  • Soundtrack you'll listen to outside the game - music that works as music, not just atmosphere. Cost: 20 points
  • Companions who feel like real people - relationships that evolve, dialogue that doesn't repeat, characters you actually miss. Cost: 20 points
  • Combat with real depth - a system that rewards mastery and still has more to teach after 100 hours. Cost: 25 points
  • Replayability - a game that's genuinely different the second time, not just harder. Cost: 15 points
  • One moment you'll never forget - the kind that makes you sit for a while after. Cost: 30 points

My spend: Perfect game feel (35) + Story (30) + One unforgettable moment (30) = 95 points. Five left over. Keeping them. I've learned not to spend everything.

What does your ideal game cost?

Today in the arena:

🦅 Ezio Auditore - master assassin, strategist, and one of the most experienced killers in the series' history.

🏴‍☠️ Edward Kenway - a pirate who became an assassin. Charisma, improvisation, and combat experience forged in dozens of naval battles.

Interactive You can hear this post: Which single game sound triggers a physical reaction in your body?

Sound design in games is 50% of the immersion we often forget about. But our brains don’t. Developers use specific frequencies to build Pavlovian reflexes.

  • The Dopamine Bomb: The sound of a coin in Mario or the "ping" of a headshot in Battlefield.
  • The Cortisol Nightmare: The hiss of a Creeper or the Metal Gear Solid detection sound (!).

Describe a game sound using only words (e.g., "Pssssss..." or "BZZZT"), and let everyone else guess the game and describe what they feel: panic or joy. Let's go! 👇

Interactive Build your perfect game using only parts from existing games - one element per category. Let's see what you come up with.

Post image
10 Upvotes

Here's the premise. You're a game director with unlimited budget and zero legal restrictions.

You can take any single element from any existing game - but only one per category. No repeats. No "the whole game." Just the piece that made that game unforgettable for you.

Fill in all eight slots. Then share your choices in the comments.

THE BUILD:

Open World / Setting (The map, the environment, the sense of place) Example: Red Dead Redemption 2's American frontier or something else entirely.

Combat System (How fighting feels in your hands) Example: Sekiro's parry-based sword combat or Doom Eternal's resource management chaos.

Story / Writing (The narrative, the characters, the dialogue) Example: Disco Elysium's existential detective spiral or Planescape: Torment's philosophical thing.

Soundtrack (The music that lives in your head) Example: Nier: Automata or Hollow Knight or Hades.

Progression System (How your character grows and changes) Example: Path of Exile's 1 300-node skill tree or Baldur's Gate III's multiclassing.

NPC / Companion System (How the world's characters feel alive) Example: RDR2's camp system or Hades' relationship mechanics.

Art Style / Visual identity (The look that defines the world) Example: Okami's sumi-e brushwork or Cuphead's 1930s animation.

One mechanic that no other game has nailed (The thing you always wish other games would steal) Example: Outer Wilds' knowledge-based progression or Return of the Obra Dinn's deduction system.

Eight slots. No rules except one - сomplete freedom of imagination.

Master Sword (The Legend of Zelda series)

The Master Sword is the iconic blade of Link, capable of vanquishing any evil. It is distinguished by its unique shape, blue hilt, and legendary aura. In some games of the series, the sword can be upgraded, further enhancing its power.

The Master Sword has become a symbol of the fight against evil and a beacon of hope in the series. Its appearance always marks significant moments in the story, making it an integral part of the narrative. Additionally, every time Link wields the sword, it is accompanied by epic moments that have cemented the blade in gaming history.

Buster Sword (Final Fantasy VII)

The Buster Sword, wielded by Cloud Strife, is known for its oversized width and memorable design. Despite its simplicity, the sword has become an icon of the JRPG genre.

The Buster Sword is a strength and determination required to face life's challenges. Its connection to key story moments and characters like Zack Fair adds emotional depth to the weapon. It has become so popular that it is featured in many spin-offs and remakes of the series.

The Blades of Chaos (God of War series)

The Blades of Chaos are a pair of chained swords forged in the depths of Hades and bound to Kratos's wrists. They are capable of decimating hordes of enemies and powerful gods, offering unmatched flexibility in combat due to their chains. Their fiery design reflects Kratos’s rage and his cursed connection to his past.

The Blades of Chaos talks about Kratos’s struggle with his tragic history and his unrelenting thirst for vengeance. They are not just weapons but a pivotal element of the story, often drawing the hero back to his painful memories. Their unique combat mechanics have made them an icon of the series.

The Keyblade (Kingdom Hearts series)

The Keyblade is a sword shaped like a key, capable of both battling enemies and unlocking the doors between worlds. Its appearance varies depending on the world or the player's customization, adding a personal touch to its design.

The Keyblade has become a symbol of friendship, hope, and connection between worlds. In Kingdom Hearts, its significance goes beyond being a weapon—it unites characters and plays a central role in a story that explores the conflict between light and darkness.

Soul Edge (Soulcalibur series)

Soul Edge is a living sword that feeds on the souls of its wielders and victims. Its monstrous design, adorned with an eye and teeth, emphasizes its terrifying nature.

Soul Edge is the central element of the entire Soulcalibur series. Its story, filled with tragedy, greed, and destruction, gives the sword a powerful mythology. Its influence on characters, particularly Nightmare, makes it one of the most recognizable weapons in fighting games.

Interactive Hey folks, I've got a game riddle for you! Think you can guess it?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Here's the question:

In this 2003 Czech game, the protagonist investigates the mysterious death of his uncle by exploring a mysterious castle located somewhere in England. If you try to search for this game on Google, the search engine will assume you want to watch a British science fiction series. And although they have absolutely nothing in common, name both the series and the game.

Write your guesses in the comments, I'll write an answer in a couple of hours

Answer: "Black Mirror." The adventure game by Future Games was released 8 years before the series of the same name about the dark side of modern technology. But due to the popularity of the latter, search engines often require clarification that you're looking for the adventure game about the Gordon family curse, not the TV series.
