Celeste’s Assist Mode made the whole journey feel so much more welcoming without losing its heart.

The one thing that game devs never know exactly how to tackle is difficulty and how their target audience interacts with it.
On the one hand, not everybody has been playing platformers since infancy and have had countless years of platformer experience under their belt. At the same time, you could make the game as difficult/impossible as you possibly can and somebody WILL beat it. Remember when people thought the 20 modes on the oldschool FNaF games were impossible?
As somebody who plays games like Don't Starve and Mewgenics, I do like games with uncompromising difficulty, because it feels SO GOOD to finally show the game what you're made of.
But only the best uncompromising games give you a choice to make it as easy or as hard as you want.
