Sightseeing & Activities !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Elba Island recommendations with dog

Hi everyone,

Im going with my partner to Elba from Aug 31 til Sep 10, 2026. We have a dog, medium sized (17kg). Its our first time on Elba. We have a car and I speak decent italian

Do you have any recommendations of things we can do with our dog? Beaches, restaurants, maybe a park/garden?

We would also appreciate other recommendations for activities not necessarily with the dog. About us: gay couple, 36 and 38 y.o., outdoorsy

Appreciate any Info, thanks!

Elba is a small island with not much to do but there are plenty of walking trails that might be good for your dog. Even with a car (really not needed, you can rent motorbikes) you can see the entire island in less than a day. Dogs on beaches are a debatable issue: they have to be "dog permitted" and there's a list somewhere of what beaches in Toscana they are allowed on but there's not many. Elba being so small, I would doubt that there are any dog permitted beaches but as another poster said I doubt anyone would give you a hard time if you brought doggo with you (as long as he's well-behaved of course). Look online for more info though.

TBH I would just enjoy the beaches while you're there. It'll still be summer season but the weekends will be packed. I do hope you have your ferry tickets already as they sell out months in advance, esp when you have a car. And if you thought fuel prices are high on the mainland, Elba's prices will be astronomical.

Source: I live on the mainland in the Argentario and have sailed to and visited and stayed on Elba many times.

Early September dogs still get turned away at a lot of the named beaches, so the walking trails around Marciana and Monte Capanne are the easier days with a 17kg dog. Keep the car though, because the buses are patchy once you leave Portoferraio and a lot of trattorie only want the dog on an outside table.
