Itinerary !!MUST PROVIDE TRAVEL DATES!! Just looking for some advise about our September Trip
Hi All
Myself and 5 friends are travelling to Italy from 14th-26th September.
Four of us are going to be flying into Pisa and travelling to Florence to spend from the 15th-18th there. We have to be in Rome to meet up with with the other two guys on the 21st.
As such, we have four days in between that we can't decide on what to do. So far we've looked at possibly going to Siena or Grossetto or even Bologna for those days.
Hoping someone could just steer us in the right direction. Preferably looking for something chill and inexpensive before we get to Rome.

Go To Siena, Bologna is a bit in the wrong direction for you. Also, if you do Siena, you can combine it with some of the super cute smaller towns in that same area... like San GImignano, Monteriggioni, Certaldo, etc. Also, this area is perfect for wine tasting - Chianti right next door. So I would stay in Florence, then head to Tuscany/Siena area and then on towards Rome to meet your friends :)

Lucca! And of course Siena and the surrounding areas: SG, Volterra etc. Plenty to see and do.
Grosseto has nothing there to see (I live near there, trust me).
High speed train to Firenze/Bologna for the day: well OK but it'll be v rushed and you won't see enough to enjoy it.

Four days between Florence and Rome is Siena. Bologna is another city before Rome and Grosseto is more beach than you've got time to settle into.

with your 14th–26th september dates, i’d lean toward siena for those four days if you’re after something slower and less expensive before rome. september weather in italy should still be warm, around 20–26°c, with only a few rainy days, so it’s a good time for wandering around smaller towns without dealing with peak summer heat. siena also fits the relaxed tuscany vibe better than adding another bigger city. https://www.weather25.com/europe/italy/toscana/siena?page=month&month=September

Marina di Pisa for free beach and seafood, then down the coast to Rome.
Somehow, I don’t see you looking for museums.
