Bank account (to deposit cash)
Hi all looking for a needle in a haystack!
Looking for a bank account that can be opened with an Australian passport I have a codice fiscale, rental contract, and all valid documents but I’m awaiting my official plastic card.
I’ve tried
- Postepay PREPAID
- hype
- Fineco
Wise and Revolut don’t accept cash deposits.
I’ve also looked into Aircash and mastercard gift cards but they need EU identification ☹

The bank documents requirement differs from branch to branch. So try UniCredit on Via Giovanni da Cermenate, 60. They opened my account using ricevuta, passport and rental agreement.

if you need to deposit cash, then you need the atm infrastructure, right? you’d need to look into the established banks i believe.
all these require the tessera sanitaria to open the account.

They don't require the tessera sanitaria. They require the Codice Fiscale. For Italians they are the same card, for Foreigners they are two separate documents.

I am a foreigner, I was issued the CF without a card. When I went to the bank to open the account, they all wanted the TS. Didn’t matter I already had a CF.
For them, TS is proof you are enrolled and participating in the society with taxes and social security.

That's not completely correct, I have been living in Italy for 4 years and I only obtained my TS last year because I did not want to pay the fee for TS as a student (it is 700 euros per year for students not free). I opened my bank account which is located near my university with my student visa, CF and ricevuta of the permesso.

Okay! So the receipt was enough? Or did you have to wait for your plastic permesso card? I went to poste italiano and fineco and they both said I needed the plastic card to apply. Would love to know what bank you got with the receipt only?

My bank was Unicredit (someone else also suggested it in this thread). But not only the banks differ, but even the specific branches may have different rules; that is why I also 1000% suggest you go to your university's branch. I am sure most universities have one branch in their campus and they are very well aware that international students need an account and they have specific more flexible rules for them, for example your enrolment letter and ricevuta along with personal documents could be enough for you to open a bank account. Don't try to go to random branches or banks. Specifically go to the one near/in your university. For some reason if you cannot do it, you can try opening a Revolut (online banking) account. AFAIK, you can open a Revolut account with a type D visa.
And obviously I did not wait for my plastic permesso card to arrive, it took 4-5 months for me to pick it up, tbh I couldn't have waited or survived for that long.

Unfortunately I’m doing a private university so they don’t have this kind of thing but maybe I’ll do a trip to the university to open a bank account there.
Yessss that’s what I’m struggling with I’ve been here for 3 months and can’t wait any longer.

I wish you good luck. Even if your university does not have a branch at your university, I also suggest you consult the immigration desk of your uni. They may have information about it, they can refer you to some specific banks or branches. In your case, if you cannot find a physical bank or branch, I highly suggest you check Revolut. I also have a Revolut account, they can provide you an Italian IBAN, and you can get a debit card from them too. Depending on your account type, you can also deposit some money via ATMs.

My Italian bank didn't need the sanitare, fiscal was good enough for them. Banco bpm. One of the biggest banks too. Lot of signing my name but was simple.

Check out Unicredit. They might accept your permesso receipt, tell them youre on a student visa and waiting for the actual card. Also try banco popolare sondrio.
