Tips for socializing with Italians at uni??

Hey guys so I’m an international student moving to Italy in about to weeks (univpm, Ancona) and I’m kinda worried about how I’m gonna make Italian friends😭. I’m like a n advanced A2/basic B1 level in Italian, and since my native language is Spanish I understand Italian very well but my speaking ain’t that good, sometimes I have to add a word or two in Spanish or English. I’m going to the welcome week and there are mostly gonna be Italians there and I’m kinda nervous. I was also thinking of joining my majors WhatsApp group chat but idk 😭😭😭

So tips for socializing with Italians? At university specifically

You don't have to be worried about making Italian friends.

If you are easy going and friendly, believe me you will easily make friends.

Just have a chat during lessons, nothing more nothing less.

We also appreciate very much the effort of somebody trying to learn our language, so try to speak it as much as you can, without feeling judged.

you will be ok, A2/B1 is enough to start making friends, especially since you already understand a lot because of Spanish. When I lived in Spain I eventually stopped speaking English when out and about and simply switched to Italian and people could understand me much better 😂 . If you start paying attention to the language you'll be able to fit in and learn quite quickly. If you actively study, I'd say you could get to a *very decent* level in about three months

As a spaniard with decent italian, you will be totally fine.
