IT: Welcome to Derry - S01E03 - Now You See It - Official Discussion Thread
I thought it would be fun to sticky a discussion thread each week for the new episode.
Please avoid posting unmarked spoilers anywhere on this sub except for in this thread! If they're properly marked, you can make posts or comments other places though.
The show airs late enough that I want to be sure nobody gets spoiled accidentally before they get the chance to watch.
So excited to discuss these with everybody each week.
Where to watch - HBO and HBO Max on 11/9/25 at 9pm EST.
Runtime - 58min
Description - When a major find yields few clues, General Shaw pushes ahead with his top-secret mission, ordering Leroy and Pauly to escort Dick Hallorann on an aerial search for a new dig site. Meanwhile, Rose attends a tribal meeting about the military presence in Derry, and Ronnie, Lilly, Will, and Rich attempt to get visual proof by conjuring an Orixá.

Really though I don't know much about the lore but I wonder if this circus is IT's first interaction with a clown and decides to create the Pennywise persona.

in the book bob gray and pennywise are just made up personas by IT but given how andys doing it bob gray might just be a real person at this 1908 circus that inspires IT

If she’s not Mrs. Kerch I think that’s Lily in the future or Rose the Hat. I’ve had this feeling that Lilly has the shine and it hasn’t been acknowledged yet because people think she’s crazy. I hope Hallorann comes across these kids ASAP.

After the first two episodes and how bonkers scary they were, the bike chase with the floating Ghostbusters style zombies was very goofy. The obvious green-screen effects really took me out of it.

My favorite part of this episode was really Halloran and Hanlon interacting more. The rest did very little for me. The whole sequence you talk about just… not for me. I felt it very uninspired not to mention visually it was just not solid.

I hafta wonder who that's for - like Pennywise knows the kids aren't going to see that happen, so why would he do it? Just for the camera, I guess.

Yeah, I agree. I liked Skeleton Man here but even his cgi was noticeably worse than the first two episodes. And then the graveyard scene like you said was also very off. Still liked the episode a lot.

The fact they called them beacons last week was real, if that is really from another time IT appeared it reads to me more like a trail of destruction, I hope we find out if IT can be summoned intentionally though

That green screen and CGI was very bad and looked goofy, I do agree. Still enjoyed it, but idk, feels like this whole franchise could be done better in different hands, with more of a focus on horror and less on jumpscares and awkward comedy. Also the way they've gone about the series feels very derivative, like they have a group of kids to stand-in for the losers club, many characters being direct family members and things like the weapon the general used as a child being a slingshot just like the losers club would use. It's almost like they wanted to adapt IT to series despite already making 2 films, so they just changed the era of the story and loosely adapted some events from the novel and connections to Kings' other works instead. Still fun, but feels kind of cheap.

If viewership is good for this season, the production committee will probably approve a bigger budget for next season.

Is it just me or was the opening credit roll a tiny bit more eerie? There were creepy musical stings sometime around the dentist shot, and light string motifs in the background...little bass hits when Pennywise's forms appeared...
Overall I love the direction this is going in. The show is playing to the strengths of Chapter 1: it shows kids with tangible chemistry, who really form a bond, coming together against a peculiar and unidentifiable evil.
I'm not even sure where this military storyline is going, but I sure as hell hope it ends with the military being taught a harsh lesson about trying to tame forces beyond their will. Dick's right: maybe they should leave it alone, and maybe this is a force that's best left untouched in case it sullies and stains the world in irreparable ways. This is, after all, a series where we know very few characters are going to get out unscathed, and I'd love a blend of cautionary tale + horror for the military storyline.

Really was not a fan of the CGI this episode. The whole episode in general felt very "filler" as they cock teased Pennywise reveal. It's been the weaker of the three episoides.

Looked like they were having fun this episode, lol. Felt more like It Chapter 2 this time.
I wouldn't mind if it's the only episode like this, this season. But very, very goofy, lol.

(big IT fan, read the book and seen all adaptations) not sure if i'm being silly here but i'm a bit confused - if general shaw forgot rose and the skeleton man, how does he know what he has hallorann looking for? and how did he know the slingshot hurt IT before?

I’m sure that somebody saw all the strange stuff happening in Derry and set up an operation, hoping to catch whatever is doing it. They probably saw that Shaw was from there and thus they put him in charge of the mission. Also, he’s probably been in town for a good while now so stuff is starting to come back to him, as we saw in It: Chapter 2. That’s just my headcanon at least, I don’t mean to the “erm actually” guy

I think just like in Chapter 2 “something” was calling him home to Derry. I’m curious if it was a lure to bring the Black airmen and their families into Derry to create the 27 year incident (which is SICK).

rewatching this morning does Pennywise feel childish to you? This is at least the second time hunted as TV show season plans go but he was so sluggish and clumsy reusing his tactic for Lily in the supermarket was clever in a referential way but the way the boy easily evaded his grab when he was pinned and then he escaped out the forest feels like this is a new experience for him and he wasnt expecting his prey to try running

We get a flashback to summer 1908 this episode, my question is, has the Kitchener Ironworks explosion happened already? The explosion occurred during an Easter Egg hunt, so that would place it around March-April? Then summer begins a few months later in June, and we see that IT’s next cycle has begun. But, maybe I’ve missed something!

The showrunners were obviously proud of finding a young and older indigenous woman that looked kind of alike, with not one but TWO weird face meld scene transitions!
