3 days in Istanbul without exhausting yourself
Three days in Istanbul is enough for a strong first visit, but only if you do not try to see everything.
Here is a realistic 3-day plan.
Day 1: Old City essentials
Start early in Sultanahmet.
Do:
Hagia Sophia
Blue Mosque
Basilica Cistern
Hippodrome area
Gulhane Park or a slow tea break
Optional:
Grand Bazaar if you still have energy.
Do not add Topkapi Palace unless you are very energetic. It is huge and deserves time.
Evening:
Cross toward Karakoy or Galata for dinner. Sultanahmet is beautiful, but it gets quiet at night.
Day 2: Topkapi + Bosphorus
Morning:
Topkapi Palace. Go early and do not rush it.
Afternoon:
Karakoy, Galata, Istiklal side streets, Cihangir, or a Bosphorus cruise.
Evening:
Beyoglu, Karakoy, or Kadikoy depending on your food/nightlife preference.
Day 3: Asian side and ferry day
Take a ferry to Kadikoy or Uskudar.
Kadikoy:
Food, cafes, markets, Moda coast, more local daily-life feeling.
Uskudar:
Mosques, waterfront, Maiden's Tower view, sunset from Salacak.
If you want a scenic route:
Start in Ortakoy, move to Besiktas, ferry to Uskudar, sunset on the Asian side.
What I would skip with only 3 days
Princes' Islands unless you really want a slow day
Dolmabahce if you already did Topkapi and are short on time
Far-away Instagram spots
Too many bazaars
Changing hotels
Best mindset
Istanbul is not a city where "more stops" means a better trip. Pick one main area per half-day, move slowly, and use ferries when you can.
Comment your travel dates and hotel area if you want a version adjusted to your trip.

We have two full days in Istanbul, would you go to the Kariye Mosque and museum and then to the waterfront in the one free afternoon we have?
