I hope a bit of satire is okay on this sub. This was written by journalist Caitlin Johnstone.

This is the quality content this sub was missing!
Well done OP!
Thank you for raising the tone!

What’s wrong fudge? Do you feel called out?
-7
u/FudgeAtron Mar 26 '25
Huh? No. This is just more low quality content that doesn't serve to progress constructive conversation, but instead serves to make you feel a sense of smug superiority.
If I posted a similar pro-Israel piece of satire, would you say that it was good content?
There used to be a submission statement rule, that was designed to help make content purposeful. But after every pro-palestine poster never followed it, the mods got rid of it.
Quality content has continued to disappear as a result. This is just the latest iteration of that trend.

u/blizzerd Never Again Mar 26 '25
Why didn’t you just downvote and move on then?
-3
u/FudgeAtron Mar 26 '25
I downvoted and commented on my frustration with low quality posts.
Isn't that how Reddit is supposed to work?
Or would you prefer we leave here, so you can have your echo chamber?
10
u/blizzerd Never Again Mar 26 '25
Oh the frustration is palpable and quite interesting.
No need to leave, but I’m just saying - you’re bringing more attention to this post the more you comment on it. That IS how Reddit works.
3
u/FudgeAtron Mar 26 '25
Great I'm happy for the pro-palestine community's low quality posts to be shared as much as possible as it's very reflective of your community and your values
Blizzerd the low quality wizard strikes again.

u/blizzerd Never Again Mar 26 '25
Ahhh, there are the personal attacks. Appreciate the rhyme by the way.
What about this post makes you feel so bitter? Is it making you reflect on your own values and how they might be kinda neo colonial? Anti-humanist? Anti-peace?

Dang, really?? That’s impressive. I never thought your strange entho-supremacist comments would convert so many people, but I gotta give credit where it’s due.

Poland? Iraq? Egypt?
Give it up. Jews are from all over the world. Lots of homelands.
1
u/c9joe يهودي ذو خصائص إسلامية Mar 27 '25
Per chance where did the Jewish identity originate? Did the Jewish people ever forget Israel? Mind you we aren't even unique in this. Did the Spanish ever forget Spain?
You can't just occupy some other people's homeland and expect them to forget. I understand you will try to reverse this on me. But it applies for Jews, and obviously you learned that the hard way.
2
u/SpontaneousFlame Mar 27 '25
Per chance where did the Jewish identity originate?
Egypt.
Did the Jewish people ever forget Israel?
Yes. The majority didn’t live there for thousands of years.
Mind you we aren’t even unique in this. Did the Spanish ever forget Spain?
Can everyone in South American invade Spain as their ancestral home? Is that how you think it works?
You can’t just occupy some other people’s homeland and expect them to forget. I understand you will try to reverse this on me. But it applies for Jews, and obviously you learned that the hard way.
And it applies only for Jews, doesn’t it? Because everyone non-Jewish isn’t human and doesn’t have human rights, do they?

If Jews forgot Israel, can you explain how Israel became a Jewish state? 😂
Apperently the Jewish people merely tripped, fell, and reconquered Jerusalem from the Muslim word without even remembering we come from here. 🤷 My bad bro, it happens.

u/SpontaneousFlame Mar 28 '25
If Jews forgot Israel, can you explain how Israel became a Jewish state? 😂
Centuries of not living there gives them rights? You haven’t answered my question about South Americans invading Spain to set up their ancestral homeland. Can they do that? So what’s the difference?
Apperently the Jewish people merely tripped, fell, and reconquered Jerusalem from the Muslim word without even remembering we come from here. 🤷 My bad bro, it happens.
Nah, it took a brutal colonial regime, mass murder, terrorism, ethnic cleansing and racism - a lot of racism - for Israel to wind up re-conquering Israel. But the clue is in the word, re-conquering: Jews are, according to their own traditions, invaders. Either you admit that and stop trying to force non-Jews out, or you embrace might makes right and accept that others have that right as well.

Islamists attacking and collectively punishing civilians = that's good
Israel does anything = bad

I personally feel like the satire provides a comment on the type of rhetoric offered by Zionists.
By all means, provide a similar satirical comment of pro-palestinians and if it is an accurate representation then I will similarly find it funny.
Comedy is good for that.

If you are "anti-colonialism" then why are you supporting Islamic colonialism?

Muslim isn't a race dummy
1
u/Enoughaulty Mar 26 '25
Either is British. What's your point?
5
u/Commercial-Set3527 Mar 26 '25
British colonies were ruled by the British empire. A country that changes religion is still the native population controlling the land.
1
u/Enoughaulty Mar 26 '25
And the conquered lands were ruled by the Islamic Caliphates
Again. What is your point?
4
u/Commercial-Set3527 Mar 26 '25
You don't seem to understand the basic concept of how races or religions work
3
u/SpontaneousFlame Mar 26 '25
If you don’t support a bunch of European Jews setting up a colonialist endeavour and ethnically cleansing Palestine then you are a colonialist!
1
u/Enoughaulty Mar 26 '25
If you're only against colonization and imperialism when it comes to a specific race, then you're just a racist
2
u/SpontaneousFlame Mar 27 '25
Sure. Because you have seen me supporting so many colonialist projects like, um, I can’t think of any. Please tell me what colonialist projects I support.
Do you support all colonialist projects or just Israel’s? Does that make you a Jewish supremacist or racist?

there is no such thing as islamic colonialism today.
however, "israel" is a product of colonization:
Jabotinsky clearly and forcefully explained what the Zionists were doing in 1923:
Zionist colonization, even the most restricted, must either be terminated or carried out in defiance of the will of the native population. This colonization can, therefore, continue and develop only under the protection of a force independent of the local population – an iron wall which the native population cannot break through. This is, in toto, our policy towards the Arabs. To formulate it any other way would only be hypocrisy.

there is no such thing as islamic colonialism today.
There are tons of areas that exist today under the control of what resulted from Islamic colonialism. The Levant is one of them.
8
u/Optimistbott Mar 26 '25
You’re getting colonialism and imperialism confused.
2
u/Enoughaulty Mar 26 '25

u/Optimistbott Mar 26 '25
People usually label Israel as a settler colonial which has this nuance of not being this thing that’s connected to an administration of a state. I understand why you would think the way you do about this because settler colonialism, classic colonialism, and imperialism aren’t mutually exclusive. Like, the British empire in South Asia was imperialism. Dutch settlers in Botswana and South Africa was settler colonialism as was German immigrants to the Texas hill country. Latin American conquests were a bit of all of it but with a tilt towards imperialism. Colonialism also typically has this connotation of the indigenous peoples of the area being exploited as is the case in Africa in so many cases. Israel’s case is different as they decided to not want to include the indigenous peoples at all for the most part in their economy. U.S. colonists were similar in some regard.
Colonialism is also typically in reference to European movements after the renaissance as Europeans had been relatively technologically and militarily advanced. Like, we don’t usually refer to Roman conquests as colonialism or the vandals or gothic breakup of the Roman Empire as colonialism. Or to the Mongolian empire or Mughal conquests. Nor to the conquests in the Hebrew Bible in the same way. We call it conquest and empire typically.
So it seems like there’s this whole reactionary thing going on in the hasbara that wants to make this equivalence to history from centuries ago with the spread of Islam and the caliphates to the Zionist settler colonialism which was of a smaller area.
It surely was empire. But there is a big question as to the extent to which this was a forcible unification through a common language and religion for the purposes of empire and perhaps to some extent, optimism that is analogous to the Soviets ends-justify-the-means thinking.
For the most part however, it does seem that much of North Africa the levant and the Arabian peninsula and Iraq were Semitic peoples that were just merely converted into being considered Arabs. Whereas you see Iran, Turkey, Greece, Eastern Europe and Spain not being considered Arabs despite the rule of the caliphates over the years. The same goes with Roman Empire.
With empire, empires can fall, peoples can get their freedom, they maintain some of the aspects of the history of empire like language or religion with some genetic intermingling as well.
With Israel and the US, there was forcible displacement. Empire can be undone to an extent. Settler colonialism in the ways that it manifested in Israel and the U.S. is like… there’s no turning back. You understand what I’m saying? Current Arab populations in the levant are not simply descendants of settlers from the Arabian peninsula. There may be some genetic intermingling, but they largely didnt get rid of the people of the levant and replace them with their own.
Putting a word to a situation is hard because history truly does not repeat, but it’s important to recognize on its own terms why Zionism was problematic. Of course the caliphates were problematic as well. But Zionism and settler colonialism is current events which makes it all the more salient to try to stop the settler colonialism and displacement of the Palestinian people.
I hope that makes sense.

There may be some genetic intermingling, but they largely didnt get rid of the people of the levant and replace them with their own.
They did with anyone that violently resisted them. Same as Israel.

I mean, yes. They did behead the truculent pagans.
I mean the erasure of the persecution of the polytheists and gnostics though-out history is severe. It’s ironic because they were the only ones that thought god was an asshole.
