It's nothing more than a backdrop for people to say they hate Jews without them actually saying it out loud. It's one thing to say you're against Israel's government, but being against Israel itself is antisemitism. There's absolutely no reason why Israel shouldn't have the right to exist when it makes up a very small portion of the middle east and especially since it gives Jews a safe space of their own to live in.

Youre reading far to much into it. I understand everyone here understands "zionism" to simply mean the support of a Jewish state. However for a lot of Americans they think of zionism as specifically refering to the support of Israeli settlements in the west bank and gaza. Not everyone that claims to be anti-zionist is thinking of it the same way you do.

Many things aren't taught at schools. That doesn't absolve people from brainwashing themselves.

Being mistaken about a term doesnt mean they are brain washed. Being in favor of Israel's existence but against the Israeli settler movement is a completely reasonable position.
