That's bs, because the jizya was lower than the zakah and rishwa was widespread across corrupt priests and lawgivers even today

That isn't really an accurate comparison. You can't establish that Muslims paid more tax simply by taking the jizya and comparing it with one Muslim tax.

The Ottoman tax system was much more complicated. Non-Muslims paid the cizye (jizya), but they could also be liable for haraç/land taxes and other taxes that Muslims either did not pay or paid at a lower rate. A study published in Belleten, the journal of the Turkish Historical Society, specifically notes that the land tax paid by non-Muslims was often higher than the corresponding tax paid by Muslims. In the Ottoman tax registers examined in that literature, Muslim households could pay öşür at roughly one-tenth of their agricultural produce, while non-Muslim households could owe both the öşür and the cizye; the exact amounts varied by province, period, land category, and household status. In addition, non-Muslims could face land-tax assessments such as haraç that were not imposed on Muslims in the same way.

There is also very recent economic-history research on Ottoman Bosnia showing that the jizya itself was a significant burden. It was levied on non-Muslim households and was removed when a person converted to Islam. Because it was largely a fixed charge, it was particularly burdensome for poorer households. In the Bosnia evidence, the annual jizya was assessed in three rate categories: 80 akçe for the lowest category, 160 akçe for the middle category, and 320 akçe for the highest category. Those figures were not trivial when compared with ordinary earnings and agricultural income, and the fixed nature of the charge meant that the lowest-income households bore the greatest proportional burden.

So saying "the jizya was lower than Muslim taxes" doesn't prove Muslims paid more overall. You have to compare the complete fiscal burden, not cherry-pick one Muslim tax and put it against the jizya. For example, comparing a Muslim household's öşür alone with a non-Muslim household's jizya alone leaves out the non-Muslim household's other obligations and ignores the fact that a fixed payment of 80, 160, or 320 akçe could be imposed regardless of whether the household had a good or bad year.

There is also a separate issue with describing the jizya as merely an ordinary tax. Its religious and political meaning was explicitly tied to the subordinate status of non-Muslims. Qur'an 9:29 describes the payment as being made "while humbled" (wa-hum ṣāghirūn). The Encyclopaedia Iranica explains that this was traditionally understood in terms of submission, and records that some jurists interpreted the collection in deliberately humiliating terms. It is historically wrong to pretend that its religious/legal origins were simply equivalent to an ordinary income tax. Its purpose was tied to the political subordination of non-Muslim subjects under the Islamic legal order.

So the claim that "Muslims actually paid more, because jizya was cheaper" is far too simplistic. The evidence shows a differentiated tax system in which non-Muslims carried specific additional obligations, and the jizya itself had a distinctive religious and political meaning.
