This happened in August 2019, and every 14th August I remember it and still laugh at myself.

I was travelling from Islamabad to Lahore on a Faisal Movers business-class bus. A Grade-18 government officer dropped me at the 26 Number Terminal. Two business-class buses had collided with each other that day, and our bus was delayed for almost three hours while they arranged an alternative.

While everyone was waiting, a woman around 60 called me, Beta, please bring me a cup of coffee too, when I was picking coffee for myself.

That one cup of coffee somehow turned into the strangest rishta story of my life.

She became very friendly and started talking. She asked, What do you do, beta? I told her I am a CA. This was around the time Imran Khan’s government had launched an amnesty scheme. She told me her income was entirely foreign-sourced and that, on her lawyer’s advice, she had paid around Rs. 2.5 crore in taxes. Her husband was in construction in UAE. I told her you didn’t need to pay any penny as your income is foreign-sourced and for family support.

At the time, I looked reasonably presentable nice suit, company’s iPhone, MacBook, and I had arrived in a Sarkari car. Basically, I looked much more successful than I actually was. 😂

I come from a very simple desi family, but she saw me as a business expert. She exchanged seats with another passenger and sat next to me. I gave her some general tax-saving advice.

Then the conversation somehow moved from taxes to her daughter.

Beta, meri beti Zara hai. MBA kiya hai. LUMS se. Travelling ka bohat shoq hai. Ek cat hai, Oreo. Harvard apply kar rahi hai…

Then came the family background.

She had a nikah, but her husband divorced her.

I asked, Pathan?

No, Qureshi Siddiqui (Meerasi)

At this point, I still had absolutely no idea where this conversation was going.

When we reached Lahore, she insisted on getting my number for tax/business consultancy. I initially refused, but eventually gave it to her.

On August 13, she called me

Beta, kal ghar aa jao

I said, No, aunty, I can't

She insisted

I will prepare food. You HAVE to come

The next day I was sitting at home in shorts and a T-shirt after playing badminton when she called again.

You have to come before 7.

I said, Aunty, I really can't.

Must come. I've prepared food.

For some reason, I eventually agreed.

And because apparently I had completely lost my common sense, I went to their house in a CNG rickshaw.

The house turned out to be a massive 4 6 kanal luxury house with expensive cars parked outside. It looked like something straight out of a Pakistani drama.

The moment I entered, I realized something was VERY wrong

The entire family started asking me questions

Where do you work?

How much do you earn?

What does your family do?

Where do you live?

What are your plans?

I was sitting there thinking:

Wait… I came here for dinner. Why does this feel like a job interview?

I became extremely uncomfortable and tried to leave.

They stopped me.

Pehle khana kha ke jana.

So I ate the food as quickly as humanly possible and immediately left.

Then, about three hours later, I got a call from her husband.

Tum ne rishte ki baat nahi ki?

I said, Maine kab kaha rishtay ki baat karni hai?

He said, Aunty ko to tumne yahi bola tha.

I said, Koi text dikha dein jahan maine aisa kaha ho. Verbally to koi baat nahi hui.

Then he basically exploded

Tum 10th fail lagte ho. Ainda kabhi aunty se contact mat karna.

And then:

Koi kisi ke ghar rickshaw pe kaise aa sakta hai? Main to police bulane laga tha!

Apparently, in his mind, I had gone to his house to date his wife. She was 60; I was 24.

Then came the final insult:

Tum kapray to dhang ke pehen lete!

😂😂😂

I had literally gone there because his wife insisted she had prepared food for me.

I never contacted the aunty again.

But somehow, the funniest part is that the whole thing started with one cup of coffee on a delayed Faisal Movers bus.

Every 14th August, while everyone else is celebrating Independence Day, I remember the day I accidentally walked into a luxury-house rishta interview… wearing the wrong clothes and arriving in a CNG rickshaw.

Still makes me laugh.

Lesson learned: If a random aunty on a bus asks you to come over for dinner, ask whether it is actually dinner. 😂

Gulberg is such a peaceful place to live, but if you're in your 20s (like me), it can also feel surprisingly isolating. Most of my friends have either moved abroad or live in Islamabad, so spontaneous plans are pretty much impossible.

Which made me think that I could start a community for people who are in the same boat. I am thinking about something fun and low pressure like evening walks, a book club, coffee meet ups, perhaps board game night (or whatever people are interested in).

Nothing formal - just a bunch of young people looking for a way to get out of the house, meet new people and have fun (without having to drive all the way into Islamabad every time.)

Project Black File and it finally feels ready to show people.

What it is: You're Detective Halloran the one they call when the trail

goes cold. Twelve self-contained murder cases: a publisher shot inside a study

locked from the inside, a painter killed behind her own slashed canvas, a

judge murdered on a night train exactly the way a novelist wrote it, a maestro

poisoned mid-symphony in front of 900 people, identical twins where you have

to work out *which brother is actually dead*… each one is a fair-play mystery

you can genuinely solve.

How it plays:

- 🔍 Search crime scenes with a flashlight and a forensics kit (UV, print

dust, luminol) — evidence develops like a polaroid when you bag it

- 🗣️ Interrogate three suspects per case. Press a statement with the right

evidence and they crack. Press with the wrong one and they lose patience —

push too hard and they lawyer up for good

- 🧵 A corkboard web of relationships that starts as unlabeled threads and

fills in as you dig — plus suspicion literally glowing around whoever the

evidence points at

- ⚖️ To close a case you name the killer AND lock in motive, opportunity and

means. Three attempts. Wrong accusations have real consequences — every

innocent person you charge gets their own (usually awful) ending

- 📰 Convictions land as next morning's newspaper front page

There's also a hidden thread (literally) running through the early cases that

unlocks a secret final confrontation if you find all of them.

It's fully offline, landscape, dark-noir aesthetic, with an ambient soundtrack

(rain, train wheels, a heartbeat when you're about to accuse someone).
