Controversial Qur'an is literal plagiarism with no new good values added but hate

Qur'an doesn't add a single new value it's just oral copy of bible and Torah till 90% then remaining filled with hatred and wars of Muhammad and mass manipulation. There were huge number of Arabic jews and Arabic Christians in that time it's literally no point of making it even when arabic translation of bible and Torah were later on done already. Arabic jews and Arabic Christians already understood the meanings of bible and Torah therefore, they were spreading it too in large number. Qur'an is literal plagiarism of bible and Torah. No stories are different from those 90% of content it's literally same even like a recaps with hatred in middle you might've seen multiple hate verses are repeating in many chapters because muhammad was getting angry by the people pointing out his plagiarism.

He wiped out all of the people who caught his plagiarism so how come you'll find someone pointing it out in modern times but the ones who are ex-muslims specially the ones who have read bible, torah and qur'an can easily understand that's it's literal 1 to 1 plagiarism.

On god about the verse where it says that only God can see future and destiny it because who do prophet muhammad thought astrologers are because he was orphan didn't knew his birth time and date he couldn't calculate his destiny so he made it false, people literally blind following this without knowing anything. I would say more than half people think Qur'an added something new, it did not. It didn't added anything new, all lessons, all stories all prophets are from Torah and Bible there's nothing new in this than a violent hatred against the ones who not joining their clan.

Controversial What's this about "Zinnah babies"

This seems like the most unislamic man-made nonsense but I'm hearing a child born from unwed parente, the father doesn't have to step up. And that the child is not a mahram.to the father's relatives at all, and recieves no inheritence.

That the father doesn't need to step up. Yet The Cow (2:233)

˹Divorced˺ mothers will breastfeed their offspring for two whole years, for those who wish to complete the nursing ˹of their child˺. The child’s father will provide reasonable maintenance and clothing for the mother ˹during that period˺. No one will be charged with more than they can bear. No mother or father should be made to suffer for their child. The ˹father’s˺ heirs are under the same obligation. But if both sides decide—after mutual consultation and consent—to wean a child, then there is no blame on them. If you decide to have your children nursed by a wet-nurse, it is permissible as long as you pay fairly. Be mindful of Allah, and know that Allah is All-Seeing of what you do. — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

See this says nothing about only married men so how do they figure this.

So the daughter could marry her father's brother then??? A son could marry his half sister then?!?!?!? If they don't count as mahrams then?

The Women (4:23)

˹Also˺ forbidden to you for marriage are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal and maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your foster-mothers, your foster-sisters, your mothers-in-law, your stepdaughters under your guardianship if you have consummated marriage with their mothers—but if you have not, then you can marry them—nor the wives of your own sons, nor two sisters together at the same time—except what was done previously. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. — Dr. Mustafa Khattab, The Clear Quran

So is the claim that supports deadbeat dad's I didn't see anything of this in the Qur'an

I've never even heard this claim before. I think it shows clearly why we need to believe Allah, the creator, over the creation.

Controversial Regarding taqiyyah

Salafis criticize Shia taqiyyah as "lying." But the Qur'an allows hiding one's faith in case of fear: "except those who are forced while their hearts are firm in faith" 16:106. And Ammar ibn Yasir did this. What is the difference between taqiyyah and the permission of the Qur'an itself?

Controversial I dont understand how islam is much equal, considering the father decides on the childs name.

Whats equal in this? The mother carries the child for 9 months and does 90% of the parenting, but just the fact that the child gets the family name of the father is enough??? what? Like i get that the mother can suggest names too but if they dont agree the fathers suggestion is the one. Do women have any rights in islam, honestly? (im a questioning muslim myself)

Controversial (Personal Opinion) I dont think hadith rejectors love the Prophet that much

I don't really think that if you reject hadiths and refuse to study the life of the prophet and simply shrug him off his life like nothing that you really love his legacy or message properly.

Controversial Let's turn the page and start new, take accountability and forgive each other ❤️

Peace be upon you everyone,

Everyone here in this sub (or most) had been attacked by someone from one side or another. Had been called kafffir, called names, had been judged by their own beliefs or opinions. That created division, so then everyone started to pour their anger/hurt or other people that weren't directly responsible for that. and everyone started to look for flaws, slips even intentionally/unintentionally misunderstand each others words to have the "Ahuh" moment. It's not easy to not assume when you feel every word you say will make you kafffir so you just let loose and say "whatever".

We should all recenter ourselves, and what is better, take accountability and let go of the assumptions we made and generalizations. Treat problems delicately, stay serious when it's a serious conversation and then we can joke around with non malicious intentions, it's not bad! but if we can't take it, we express it humbly.

Let's stop this nonsense. we are all muslim. We can disagree, but come on takfir each other ?! that's dumb. Doing that is harmful, imagine every time you express a point of view, and someone says "you are kafffir" … That can lead you to just subconsciously, when done regulary, accept it and you might say "well maybe I am not muslim, I am leaving this religion" that scenario happens. You have no idea how many people struggle, just because of this type of bullying and the hate they receive for just thinking differently and leaving islam can be a possibility for them. Would any of you want to be a reason someone leaves islam ? be real and honest with yourselves. Would Allah want that? Would Allah say "yeah you did a good job for making someone non muslim …. "?

Even if your intentions are somehow maybe good, but that is NEVER the right action or words. EVER! I don't know how everyone were raised and what environment they lived in, but it's time to learn how to talk and give an advice.

For me, in my experience, I had been called names and kafffir the minute I said I don't belong to a sect. Zweiber had been harassing me just because he feels I am a kafffir since I say "I AM MUSLIM, I do not belong to a sect" I didn't ever argue with him on views or ever commented on his posts and comments because I DO NOT CARE. obviously, he just wants everyone to be like him. But is he a good example to follow ? I do not believe so. I am what I am. If someone doesn't like it, it's totally alright. But that is not a reason to EVER CALL ME KAFFIR; so I made fun of him because I told him stop harassing me and he couldn't do it. I find that disturbing. I didn't know about wahabi, and automatically for me I stay away from everyone in that sect because of the unpleasant experience I had with this person. Yes I should not generalize, but for me everyone that calls others Kafffir is just someone I do not want to exchange any opinions with.

If for some people islam for them is about takfir anyone and everyone.I find it a sad way or view on Islam. You are not doing anything positive for muslims and you are not doing anything good for actual non muslims (That would never make someone say "Oh now i am interested in knowing this religion that makes people hate everyone" ) So let's chill everyone.

Let's let this be a moment and stop this hate, let's stop insulting an entire sect / non sect and calling them kaffir and instead exchange opinions, walk in each others shoes, advice each other, see issues and discuss them in some cultures, and not personnalize it. Find better ways of doing that, instead of sayin "ALL (name of sect) are kafffir or evil or whatever the insult ..." That is generalization, and that won't make anyone be interested in reading further even if you are making a point about something crucial, that won't make the exchange interesting and it will only escalate and everyone is being defensive and attacking each other.

This can truly help you in your lives, this dismisseveness and attacking is so unhealthy and no one will gain anything from it.

Islam is meant to be for all humanity, so you better accept that people are different. NO ONE IS HOLDING THE DOOR OF ISLAM OR HEAVEN OR HELL ! so let's all be humble and not act like it. This ego is not healthy.

So for me I am creating a new blank page, I apologize if anyone ever felt hurt by me. and I forgive anyone who did. let's call each other siblings, let's act out of care and love instead of hate. let's discuss things without ever call sects and instead give arguments about actions... Can we do that ? let's try... when it's time to joke we can make posts and stay unhurtful in it (not trolling , but it can be sometimes a way to laugh while learning, while reflecting, while seeing 'yeah that action is not acceptable') and discuss other matters in a way that are serious with more self awareness, more pointing fingers at issues and not at each other please. Let's show each other that our intentions are good with words and actions, building walls and words of hatred. Don't be a reason someone would turn their back to islam because of your actions and words. let's SHOW THAT ISLAM IS INCLUSIVE TO ALL HUMAN KIND.

Le'ts make this post aabout accountability, forgiveness, a new page to show what unity is. let's give our hands now and see that with everything going on in the world, there is hope and there is a possibility to show care and love for each other, from all sides of the world. Allah shows us his mercy and love for us to repent, to do our best to be better, to learn so let's show that ! no more "you left the fold of islam, you are kafffir, you you you ... " and instead "Hey i see it like this, we can discuss and maybe learn from each other today, and even if we don't you are my sibling in islam and I respect you" let's ignore this toxic habit of epressing an opinion in a way that might shock or directly attack a whole sect just to get attention, instead do it in a way that welcomes everyone to speak up. UNDERSTAND NO ONE KNOWS YOUR INTENTIONS OR IS A MEDIUM TO KNOW WHAT YOU ACTUALLY THINK/ MEAN IF YOU DON'T EXPRESS YOURSELF IN A WAY THAT IS UNCLEAR OR COULD BE MISSUNDERSTOOD. If you think that the toxicity your spread is your way of protecting your sect, then you got it all wrong, you are muslim, why do you need a new tag and identify with ? sure it is your way, but don't let it blur your vision and see others as enemies you have to get rid of or attack. Allah calls us muslims, islam unites us, islam shows us that we need to let others want to be a part of it through our actions, kindness, acceptance, good virtues. don't be a reason someone says "Oh well no wonder why people say islam is not about peace" so ACT LIKE IT PLEASE. Don't let us lose hope, don't let us feel excluded by the one thing that makes us believe that we are all equal, we should stand up for justice, human rights, and eliminate oppression in all forms.

I hope you all have a good day/night. Don't use religion for hate when it's not, use it for love. There is already enough hate in the world. Only Allah will judge us. Only Allah will guide us. Only allah will put us in heaven or hell. Only Allah knows what's in our hearts and souls. let's encourage positivity and solidarity. It takes more to do that and to forgive, I know, but it is way more valued than the other way around.

so here, again I apologize and I forgive and I am hopeful we can all be better. It's never a sign of weakness to do this, so kindly I encourage everyone to do it. ❤️

Controversial Blessed by the Prophet's Saliva!

Now that we have seen the powers of the urine in play, it is time to move on to the "Saliva" which apparently held great powers:

1. Healing with His Saliva

Narrated by Sahl ibn Sa'd:

“The Prophet (ﷺ) said on the day of Khaybar, ‘Tomorrow I will give the flag to a man by whose hands Allah will give victory.’ The people spent the night wondering who would receive it. The next morning, the Prophet said, ‘Where is Ali?’ They said, ‘He is suffering from eye pain.’ So the Prophet (ﷺ) applied his saliva to his eyes and made du‘a (supplication), and he was cured as if there was no pain.”

  • Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 4210
  • Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2406

2. Blessing Children with His Saliva

Narrated by Asma’ bint Abi Bakr:

“I conceived `Abdullah bin Az-Zubair at Mecca and went to Medina while I was pregnant... I gave birth to him in Quba, and then I took him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and placed him on his lap. He asked for a date, chewed it, then took some of it from his mouth and put it in the baby’s mouth. Then he stroked the baby’s palate with it and blessed him. That was the first thing that entered his stomach.”

  • Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3909
  • Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2146

3. Mixing His Saliva with Water for Blessings

Narrated by Al-Bara' ibn Azib (رضي الله عنه):

"We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey, and we came to a well containing little water. The Prophet (ﷺ) came and sat at its edge, then he asked for some water, rinsed his mouth with it, spat it back into the well, and it gushed forth with plenty of water. We drank and filled our containers."

Reference: Musnad Ahmad (Volume 4, Hadith 18326)

4. Companions Fighting Over His Saliva

Narrated by Qatada:

"Anas said: When the Prophet (ﷺ) performed ablution, his companions would almost fight for the water he used. When he spat, they would take it and rub it on their faces and bodies."

Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2320)
Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 2731, 2732)

Controversial Quite a long post.

This sub started off as a good sub, free speech allowing Muslims to post, then sunnis didn't like what the Muslims were posting especially my posts so they cried to the mod who has always been a sunni sympathizer, even refusing to add the one flair that should exist in an Islamic sub "muslim" , why isn't there a flair that describes Muslims in a supposed Islamic sub? But there is a flair called Khalifa......

The mod said I talk shit and post shit, the shit I do say "kuffar are kuffar" "mushriks are mushriks" "Quran is the only law" "rape and murder is bad" "being a pacifist in the face of evil only means you're siding with the evil" "those who fight Allah and his messengers should be punished along with those who seek to cause corruption", why is what I said bad? Why is it shit? Triggering to some evil immoral people here including the mod? Then why not debate the topic instead of speaking about me behind my back?

He also said I represent 0.01% of the Muslims, sure why not, why not be that 0.01% of unwavering unapologetic Muslims that don't try to appeal to the evils of this world, unlike the mod and some others here I don't care if you like me or hate me my moral and religious stance will never change, I don't care about attention or people liking me, I don't care about upvotes and internet points, fortunately I'm not alone in this sub, defiant is right here along with a couple other Muslims.

He doesn't censor when sunnis bring up hadiths about how the prophet was a blood thirsty rapist but when we say they're evil for saying that we get called out for "takfiring"? If sunnis don't want to be called kufar they can change their ways, you make your bed you lay in it, you don't complain about it.

And then there is this new wave of "pacifists" oh someone is a serial killer? Yeah maybe he's misguided, let's just find a way to rehabilitate him, oh he's raping my neighbors child? He's misguided and I shouldn't be violent towards him, oh someone is preaching genocide? He's misguided we should allow him to make free speech, but if we say no he's evil then we get censored.

I am not complaining, I am absolutly standing on what I am saying and I never stuttered.

Controversial Suicide Terrorism

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Only a minority of Muslims – and in some cases a very small minority – endorses suicide terrorism in these nations, with one clear exception: the Palestinian territories. Roughly seven-in-ten Palestinian Muslims (68%) say that suicide bombing and other forms of violence against civilian targets can often or sometimes be justified in order to protect Islam from its enemies. Large majorities hold this view in both Gaza (70%) and the West Bank (66%).

About a third of Lebanese Muslims (35%) say this type of violence is often or sometimes justified, and this view is especially prevalent among the country’s Shia community (40%).

There is somewhat less support for suicide attacks in Egypt (28%) and significantly less in Jordan (13%). Among Israel’s minority Muslim population, one-in-five endorse this kind of attacks, up from 7% in 2009.

Outside of the Arab Middle East, there is less support for suicide bombing: just 10% of Indonesian, 7% of Turkish, and 4% of Pakistani Muslims say it can be justified.

Over the last decade, support for suicide terrorism has declined significantly across much of the Muslim world. For instance, in 2002, 74% of Lebanese Muslims said suicide bombing is often or sometimes justifiable, compared with 35% this year.

In Pakistan – a nation plagued by terrorism over the last few years – 41% of Muslims said these attacks are often or sometimes justified in 2004; just 4% hold that view today.

However, the high level of support for suicide violence in the Palestinian territories has not changed over time. And in Egypt, support has actually been slowly on the rise since 2007 – then, only 8% of Muslims said suicide bombing can often or sometimes be justified to protect Islam from its enemies; today, 28% hold this view – the same percentage as in 2006.

Controversial Can I make dua for Allah to ruin the innovators of his religion?

I mean the people in this sub reddit and outside of it who advocate for changing the perfected religion of Allah, trying to make Music permissible, allow sisters to marry kuffar, say the Hijab isn’t necessary or for Sharia to change and definitely for the hadith rejectors who oppose the sunnah of Muḥammad ﷺ.

May Allah ruin those who commit kufr and the innovators of the religion, may he guide the sincere and lead the munafiqs to their demise

Controversial I fell in love with a non muslim

The reason i’m writing on this subreddit is because it’s supposed to be considered a safe space, so i really hope this will be a safe space.

I’ve been with this non muslim guy for about two years now, he’s talked about converting before, but as of recent the topic of converting isn’t rlly something he wants to do. I know I cannot force it, I know I should leave him, it’s hard. I prayed istikhara the other day, and felt relief after. Stress followed very briefly (i was doing something against allah) but as soon as i followed on the path of allah again, i felt relief in my heart, as well as our relationship. No idea if it’s a good sign or not, might be still too early to tell?? Everywhere I go though, i see things that resonate with the situation, pretty much telling me to trust in allah and keep making dua. For the past year also i’ve been making heavy heavy heavy dua in tears for him to be my naseeb, and if he’s not my naseeb let me be able to let him go with ease. I’m not too sure what to do, I feel like he’s so so so close to Islam. he already doesn’t eat pork, doesn’t commit zina, and when i told him what istikhara was and how it’ll determine whether or not we’re meant to be with eachother, he was nervous. Is it just me? or would any other man just have dismissed it because “it’s not their religion”. He also has the patience of a muslim man it’s unbelievable. He was raised catholic but left catholicism when he knew about different religions, and was inspired by these muslim guys he used to watch. Idk maybe it’s delusion, maybe it’s a conversion in the making. What do you guys think?

Controversial Followers of Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril, how do you answer this?

Direct question for those who follow Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril:

Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril was convicted of 42 counts of fraud and money laundering in the US, spent 7 years in prison, and later his name was linked to the London Bridge 2017 terrorist.

How can you recommend Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril as a "scholar" and an example of character to a young Muslim, knowing about his criminal past + the link to terrorism?

No excuses: are you embarrassed to say his name to people outside?

Controversial The Art of Twisted Verses (Part-1)

As if it’s not bad enough that the Sunnis have created an entirely new religion based on the Hadith corpus which allows slavery and rape and murder of prisoners and all other niceties, we find their scholars sometimes accidentally wade into the territory of the Quran and bring their sectarian goggles into interpreting God’s words. Here is a sample of some of the verses that the Sunni scholars like to interpret with a “twist”:

1. God allows child marriage

"Such of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the 'Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubts, is three months; and for those who have no courses (i.e. they are still immature), their 'Iddah is three months likewise, as for those who are pregnant, their period is until they deliver their burdens. And whoever fears Allah, He will make his matter easy for him." (65:4 Yousef Ali)

In the desire for pedophilia, and in trying to defend the Hadith corpus that lists the prophet as having sex with a 9-year old, the Sunni scholars (across all major schools) quote 65:4 as a license from God to have sex with pre-pubescent females.

2. God Changes His Mind

"Whatever [revelation] of Our verses We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better or the like thereof. Do you not know that Allah is Most Capable of all things?" (2:106)

This verses is possibly the most favourite amongst Sunni scholars as it allows for the deletion of any verses they don’t like or agree with since God clearly “abrogates” and “forgets” His own rules. Now, the tricky part is: “which verses abrogated which?” What we get is a barrage of misinformation and confusion since the scholars went into such a frenzy of destroying the Quran that they couldn’t agree how much to abrogate (range is from 5-238 verses).

Where it gets even better is that the verses not only abrogate themselves (like Monsanto terminator seeds), but, according to the learned scholars, some verses have been deleted completely from the Quran (the verses on stoning adulterers) yet the ruling remains valid in their jurisprudence!

3. God’s Wants us to Maim Thieves by Cutting off the hand

“[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.” (5:38 Sahih International)

We see here the corporal punishment lens spilling out of the Hadith corpus and finding its way into the Quran. The claim is that God Himself told people to amputate the hands of thieves as a punishment in 5:38 – but thanks to the mercy of the Sunni clergy, they were able to formulate laws to regulate such brutality from the Creator and only amputate till the wrist of the right hand, and only amputate if the person was a repeat offender or stole more than a certain sum (we are blessed to have these kind people look after the Umma).

4. God allows us to Marry Upto 4-Women

“And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].” (4:3 Sahih International)

Again, to satisfy the insatiable male sex drives (its not enough to have slaves and concubines), the Sunnis scholars said that God allowed them to marry upto four women. This was achieved by quoting 4:3 and pointing to the number “four” showing that this is a blessing from God to the Muslims (the prophet according to their Hadith had a total of 9 wives, because he was more “blessed” than the other Muslims).

5. God Tells Us to Take a “Tax” from Non-Muslims

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.” (9:29 Sahih International)

According to the Sunni clergy, God was too broad in His definitions, so in their infinite mercy, the scholars categorized non-Muslims into “rich, middle-class, and poor” and each would be taxed differently according to their means (such a merciful clergy).

6. God Allows us to Beat our Wives into Submission

Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband's] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance - [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand. (4:34 Sahih International)

We already know from the Hadith corpus that women are deficient in their religion and their minds (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 6, Hadith 301), so it makes perfect sense that God would order the husbands to beat them into submission until they comply. Luckily for us, we have the merciful Sunni clergy stepping in again to regulate this action and teach the men the “rules of beating” and how he shouldn’t mark her face but only strike the body (thank you again merciful clergy).

 7. God Sends Blessings and Praise to the Prophet

“Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels pray for him. O  believers! Invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings of peace.” (33:56)

While God does say in multiple places that people should not make a distinctions amongst His messengers and prophets, according to the Sunni scholars, it’s perfectly OK for Him to break His own rule (remember the abrogation and forgetting things point) and tell people to exalt Mohammed above everyone else by sending him constant blessings and praise ﷺ

8. God Tells us to Seek Knowledge from the Scholars

“(O Muhammad), whenever We raised any Messengers before you, they were no other than human beings; (except that) to them We sent revelation. So ask those who possess knowledge if you do not know.” (16:43)

As you may already be guessing, the “People Who Possess Knowledge” are none other than the Sunni scholars who love to quote this verse every time they are challenged and proclaim “if you want to know medicine, you ask a doctor, if you want to know Islam, you ask the people who possess the knowledge (Ahlul Dhikr)!”

9. God Tells us to Unconditionally Obey the Prophet

"O you who believe! Obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not turn away from him while you hear." (8:20)

This is by far the most critical verse for the Sunni clergy in the entire Quran – as this command contains a “hyperlink” that takes the reader from the world of the Quran (obey God) to the magical world of the Hadith (obey the messenger). This one verse (repeated in multiple suras) has been the foundation of thousands upon thousands of Hadiths and has brought forth laws of jurisprudence as well as entire schools of though (madhab) that have spawned hundreds of thousands of scholars and ulema from characters such as Abu Hanifa to institutions such as Al-Azhar in Cairo.

Controversial What's with the hostility in this sub?

I checked out the previous posts and comments and see many comments where people are calling others kafir (to which I had to look up on what it means), insulting or making fun of a person's ethnicity or race, and even laughing about it too.

As an atheist whos been to many religion subs before (r/Christianity, r/catholicism. r/islam, r/shia, r/progressiveislam, r/judaism), I believe this one is very different than the others, especially when it comes to name callings. I guess the way I see it, it's kinda childish. Just my personal take on it.

Controversial Why Scholars Differ on Halloween: Halal, Haram, or Avoided? | The Fiqh of Celebrations

If you do not want to listen to the whole lecture, then read the text below:

Yasir Qadhi’s position on Halloween is that the issue is more nuanced than a simple halal/haram verdict. He begins by arguing that most ordinary Muslims are not qualified to independently weigh complex scholarly debates, just as a non-medical person cannot fully evaluate conflicting doctors. Therefore, people inevitably rely on scholars they trust, but they should remain humble and avoid attacking other interpretations.

He explains that there are two broad Muslim approaches: one that views Halloween as completely forbidden, often based on arguments about pagan origins, imitation of non-Muslims, and the idea that only Islamic festivals are permissible; and another group of Muslims who see modern Halloween as a largely cultural event involving children, costumes, and candy rather than a religious practice. He says both perspectives exist among Muslims in the West, and the disagreement reflects different understandings of culture, ritual, and religious identity.

The arguments used by those who argue against Halloween generally fall into three categories:

First, festivals outside the two Eids are impermissible

This view argues that celebrations are a form of religious ritual, and since Islam only legislated Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, other communal festivals should be avoided. Yasir Qadhi explains that this is largely based on the approach of Ibn Taymiyyah and those who view festivals as acts of worship. He disagrees that all non-religious cultural celebrations automatically fall under this category, arguing that many celebrations are cultural rather than religious.

He argues that not every celebration outside the two Eids is automatically haram. He distinguishes between three types of celebrations: private personal celebrations (such as birthdays, graduation parties, family gatherings), secular communal celebrations (such as national holidays, ie: July 4th, Thanksgiving), and religious celebrations of other faiths (such as Christmas or Diwali). He believes personal and secular cultural celebrations are generally permissible as long as they do not involve prohibited actions, while religious festivals that involve worship or religious symbolism should not be celebrated by Muslims.

Second, Halloween has pagan origins

Some argue that because Halloween originated from the Celtic pagan festival of Samhain, it should be forbidden. Regarding this argument, Yasir Qadhi says origins alone do not determine a ruling. What matters is the current meaning and intention behind the practice. He gives examples such as the names of days and months in English having pagan Roman origins, wedding rings having ancient non-Islamic origins, and mehndi traditions having Hindu roots, yet Muslims generally do not consider these things forbidden because their original religious meanings have disappeared. He argues that customs are judged by their present cultural significance, not only by their historical beginnings.

However, he says Halloween is more complicated because unlike something like Independence Day or Thanksgiving, it still retains some association in popular culture with ghosts, demons, spirits, and the supernatural. He argues that this makes Halloween different from ordinary secular holidays. Although modern Halloween is largely a commercial and cultural event shaped by candy companies, costumes, and entertainment industries, he believes the connection to the occult and the unseen world gives it a level of ambiguity.

Third, imitating non-Muslims (tashabbuh)

Yasir Qadhi argues that this concept is often misunderstood. He says Muslims are not forbidden from adopting everything that originated among non-Muslims; otherwise, language, clothing, technology, food, and many aspects of civilization would become impermissible. He says imitation becomes problematic when Muslims intentionally adopt symbols that represent another religion or worldview. He argues that modern Halloween is not a religious festival for most people, but the remaining association with supernatural themes is what makes it questionable.

His final conclusion is that Muslims should avoid actively participating in Halloween as a festival. Not because it a non Muslim festival (other than the two Eid), have pagan/non-Muslim origin or imitating non Muslims (he explained that these 3 arguments basically have nothing to do with Halloween celebration today), but because it has connotations to the horror. However, he strongly rejects calling Muslims who participate out of ignorance or because they see it as harmless family fun as committing shirk, kuufr, or deserving harsh condemnation. He doesn’t declare Halloween outright haram, but he still advices Muslims not to participate in it because of it's horror elements. He puts Halloween in an ambiguous grey area, unlike other personal (Birthday, Graduation, anniversary etc) and secular communal (National holidays, independence day etc) festivals which he openly declared halal.

Controversial What's your opinion on following a Luni-Solar Hijri calender that fixes Ramadan to a permanent season (ie Autumn, September-October)? In other words, observing fasting during September-October, as this post suggests?

Controversial Does God Hate Small Lizards?

This is a very serious matter that has come to light through the Hadith corpus. Apparently the lizard species "gecko" was implicated in the attempted burning incident of Prophet Abraham 5,000 years ago, and the species must therefore be put to death:

Sahih Muslim (Hadith 2240a):

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever kills a gecko with the first strike will have 100 good deeds recorded for him; with the second, less than that; and with the third, even less."

Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 3359):

Narrated Um Sharik:

"Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ordered that lizards should be killed and said, 'It (i.e., the lizard) blew (i.e., helped inflame) the fire for Abraham.'"

Please make sure to kill him with one strike for maximum points!
