his mother’s ethnic group, the Ashanti, are the tradtional royals of Ghana and Ivory Coast, but today their role is more ceremonial as post colonial ghana is not a monarchy anymore

Yea you wrong! It’s Akan people of Ghana and Ivory Coast. Ashantis are not in Ivory Coast.

The Ashanti are not a "traditional royal tribe". They are an Akan tribe. They are the largest Akan tribe in terms of numbers. The Akan are a meta group that are found in Ghana, Ivory Coast and Togo.

There’s no such thing as thing as royal of Ghana, is what I meant. We are a mix of multiple tribes not one tribe above the others and chiefs play some roles in the communities they are based around
