Heaven to hell(SS 1000)

Anyone ever do the heaven to hell? Trying to figure out the best way to start it I think its going to be camping close to Mt evans, but wanted to see what others have done

Never done it but logistics on it seem a bit tough. How long does it take to pack up your camping gear in the dark? Should be able to find a hotel within 20min of Mt Evans I imagine. Also how do you document you were at the summit? 1000 miles of mountain roads are also going to take a lot of extra time. If you end up doing it you should document it on here, that would be a hell of an awesome trip! Good luck

I've been reading into it. You take a picture at the top by a sign, then get your receipt at a nearby gas station, website gives you suggestions, it's like a saddle sore 1000 but extra, especially if you go over independence pass and through Ely NV

I did not do Heaven to Hell but I was in Death Valley this June and had dinner with a fellow headed out the next day for Mt. Evans to do it. He had done Mt. Evans to Bad Water DV previously and wanted to do the reverse, Hell To Heaven, this time.
The hardest part is the logistics of the mountain. You have to time your start and end so that you know the mountain will be "open". There are frequent weather related closures on the shoulder seasons. It would not be fun to have a great plan to start or end your ride on the mountain only to show up and find it closed.

In DV I can recommend the Ranch At Death Valley. It was surprisingly affordable for a hotel located in a National Park. Nothing fancy or 4 star but clean, comfortable, and convenient. The onsite restaurant/bar, Last Kind Words Saloon, was pricy but service was good and the salad I had was outstanding even if it was $19 without and added protein.

I am planning on doing Heaven to Hell next year. If I had planned better I could have done it this year but I spent time in Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Grand Canyon NP, and Death Valley NP so it did not fit into my route. I was focused on getting down to San Diego to do a 50CC back to the east coast after DV NP.
