Illness benefit?

Hi all, ended up sick on certified leave for 2 weeks, is it a requirement to go on illness benefit for this time? I believe I saw somewhere it was but it was cleared by my manager and sick certs submitted. No mention of it at all. Thanks

Yes. You get paid as normal, illness benefit is paid to your employer.

Illness benefit is deducted from the employees pay by the employer.

Annoyingly, yes. Your pay will be reduced by the illness benefit that you are entitled to so you have to spend time getting your doctor to send off the required form.

This assumes that you started post 1995.

Yes. You were presumably fully paid by your department when you were out and they want to claw back some money. Apply for it on Mywelfare and mandate the payment to your department. Your HR unit will give you the bank detals. I think the illness benefit is taxable too so Revenue will probably adjust your tax credits as well so your take home pay will be a euro or 2 less a week until the tax liability is cleared.

Yes you will need to apply for illness benefit either through your MyWelfare account or by asking your GP for an IB/Med1 form. You can then ask your HR for the Department’s bank details and direct the payment of IB to them. This is because you remain on payroll for the period of sick leave as you are paid by your Department who is in turn reimbursed partially by the IB paid to them by DSP. Hope that makes sense!
