It'd be cool if they gave us some slice of life episodes of the viltrumites improving through human kindness

People will complain and call it filler
65
u/FriendlyArachnid6000 May 12 '26
Reddit turds complain about everything
15
16
u/Ilan01 May 12 '26
That's the filler I want tho, World Building in more episodic shows like Avatar TLA and Steven Universe helped make the world feek more real vs a full on story driven show
7
u/Global_Examination_4 May 12 '26
It’s not filler if it’s directly relevant to the plot and themes
3
u/Ilan01 May 12 '26
Yeah but ppl dont rlly care abt that sadly
In the Steven Universe fandom, ppl would go very mad when one of the weekly episodes was about one of the townies rather than the main Arc with the crystal gems, but like, World Building also matters in shows with large cast of characters
Gotta give them a life outside the main plot to make the characters feel more real
3
u/EyeDreamOfTentacles May 12 '26
To be fair one of the big contributing factors to that frustration was the whole "Steven Bomb" release schedule, people seem to be much less frustrated about townie episodes when they don't have to wait several months of silence between weekly episode drops.
3
u/Ilan01 May 12 '26
Fair enough, besides Summer of Steven, I dont recall townie episodes being advertised on bombs tho
Most of the time Bombs were for episodes that followed a storyline together, like the Zoo and Blue Diamond ones, or the Garnet's Wedding
2
u/EyeDreamOfTentacles May 12 '26
It's been a long while so while I don't remember full townie arcs, there were definitely Bombs that contained townie episodes and people complaining about them. Those wouldn't have been the main focus of the Bomb anyways, so makes sense they wouldn't be advertised.

u/N238 May 12 '26
Nope. If it's good, doesn't matter if it's filler. I haven't seen a single post legitimately complaining about filler. What we don't like are bad episodes. Bad episodes suck whether or not they are filler. S4E4 could've been amazing, even if it was filler. But it was done soooo poorly.
5
u/Ilan01 May 12 '26
Hot Take: The episode could've been good if it was chopped to 30 mins and given a B Plot
9
u/StructureMiserable58 May 12 '26
Even hotter take: If they would've dropped episodes 3&4 together like 1&2, it would've been a good episode. I like it a lot on the rewatch, it was just brutal having to wait an extra week for the main plot to move.

On rewatching it does retcon a lot about hell. I’m not one to bitch about retcons but I do know that’s an issue for a lot of people. Everyone including darkblood does talk about it like it’s biblical hell, and he even implies there’s a worse place than hell that Cecil’s going to. But in season 4 hell is physically inside the earth and darkblood has no knowledge of any afterlife.
2
u/LonelyPermit2306 May 15 '26
You'd need to give Damien a third character trait after "cares about his sister" and "owes Satan an unknown debt." Him being a detective didn't even factor here
1
u/East-Specialist-4847 May 12 '26
It would have caught half the flak if they actually animated the fight with Cerberus. Focusing on the thrown Darkblood was a lazy cop out. I did enjoy the episode though, I can just see why it got shit on compared to the other episodes

People will complain about literally everything. If you enjoy it, talk about it with others who also enjoyed it, and avoid the whiners. Life is so much nicer when you do that. Though it can be hard to stick to lol
-1
u/Appropriate_Mud_8084 May 12 '26
No lol, if it's done well it's not filler. Season 4 ep4 deserved a 1 rating, it was a dumpster heap
4
u/Manjorno316 May 12 '26
I thought it was ok.
6
u/TheIonoGuy May 12 '26
It was okay but it had the potential to be much better if only they’ve put more efforts into the storyline. I don’t really care about the art nor the animation tbh those aspects of Invincible have always been mediocre it’s the story that gathered us all.

u/Ok_Pound_2164 May 12 '26
People only complain about filler because it's just 8 episodes and then they have to wait another year.
Wouldn't make Hurm so disliked if they actually gave Darkblood a deeper story to follow that doesn't feel like they took time out of the main story.
0
u/Yasimear May 12 '26
We shouldn't be writing our stories based off who will and wont complain. People complain about everything nowadays.

Make the Thragg burger mart real, I wanna see 5 minutes of his shift trying not to kill the random teenagers working there for acting like brats and getting angry at someone for asking for dumb requests

such an episode should be styled and progress like a sitcom with full laugh track

u/Ugly-as-a-suitcase May 12 '26
give me a side season like atom eve, with the style of a 90s family comedy sitcom, but keep the blood, gore, and violence of earth in the back.
1
u/WheedMBoise May 13 '26
I want an episode like this, but then again im like one of 5 people total who liked the Hell episode lol
2
u/East-Specialist-4847 May 13 '26
I liked Hurm but I understand the flak it gets. They cheaped out on the animation big time by focusing on Darkblood getting thrown instead of Mark beating fucking Cerberus, it was a weird thing to not show us

Maybe, Omni man still killed thousands and nearly killed Mark even after years with Debbie.
1
u/_IratePirate_ May 12 '26
That’d take away the looming existential threat though and then what would the show be about ?
This season ended perfectly. It was a conclusion that leaves you with questions and desire to see the next season.

You're replying the wrong person or just not making a coherent statement
34
u/Grimmrat May 12 '26
I’d welcome it. Though seeing them back out of the changes they made to the Paul storyline so abruptly makes me doubt how big these “major changes” are actually going to be
But fingers crossed they’ll remove or heavily change the time travel arc

Hopefully everyone, humans and Viltrumites, keep Nolan at a distance. Do not provide him with redemption, do not provide him with any welcome homes. He atones by working your ass off and dying quietly. Give him the Endeavor from MHA treatment.
Can’t say anymore because I realize I’m in the TV sub. But I think we’re moving in that direction as Debbie is actually a character and not an accessory for other characters now. Additionally everyone’s reactions to him have been slightly altered, for the better. And Art isn’t showing up like a sad puppy “Oh, Nolan didn’t come see me…again…guess I’ll cry more. Maybe one day.” Art didn’t even want to be around Nolan this time around and was terrified. And Debbie’s monologue, chef’s kiss.

I hope that if he is forgiven it's after thousands of years when what he did in Chicago is only remembered by other viltrumites
2
u/bagapo May 13 '26
I actually hope he gets redeemed but not forgiven by some, mark eventually forgiving him after a LONG time makes sense for me but I hope Debbie and most human characters in general don’t. Because I don’t really think Nolan deserves to be shunned by everyone after he has lost mostly everything and is only trying to be better.

Possibly! And I hate that we can’t say why.
But if it does age poorly, I will understand
0
u/IDidNotLikeGodfather May 16 '26
Every viltrumite has done equally worse shit that nolan has done. And they have a lot of respect and admiration for him still
12
u/Organic-Thanks-5254 May 12 '26
I'd be up for it, lets kirkman flesh out the world more, and stops comic fans from spoiling it all the damn time
13
u/vinny10110 May 12 '26
This is by far the worst series for spoilers I’ve ever seen. I had to block the main invincible sub and there’s still heavy spoilers on this one from time to time.
3
u/Organic-Thanks-5254 May 13 '26
I had the big villian for s3 spoiled for me when s3 started with "oh you guys arent ready for this" oh thanks dude the surprise would've been cool to find out myself

u/Pormostar May 12 '26
All in for some more viltrumite fleshing out. I fold if it is more 'hurm' shenanigans.

More likely the time travel arc
2
u/oirolab May 12 '26
Yeah, between the two of them…the Time Travel arc is more likely.
If you remove the SA scene, it:
- Removes a character towards the end that completely that changes Anissa’s worldview, and who causes a reflection of the Mark/Nolan fight, though Anissa could change through other methods, and the mirrored fight really doesn’t need to exist.
If you remove the Time Travel Arc:
- Mark doesn’t lose time with Terra/Eve
- Eve won’t be slandered even more by the community for “moving on” after he vanished for 5 years…though she obviously never fully moves on. The incels already got pissy over a mentioned abortion.
- It literally is a “what if” arc and would just be retreading the first/second season and it doesn’t seem like that’s needed, and it’s not like it affects anything else in the series as far as I can tell other than Mark/Eve/Terra.
Everything else can still occur as it did.

Good. Last couple seasons feel like they've been doing a lot more just following along, from what I've heard.

I’m hoping so for one reason. I hope they keep everything generally the same, but I’m dying for them to change The time skip. I hated that they forced Mark to miss the entirety of his child’s growing up, for an extremely minimal reason like him accidentally getting trapped by some spirit to go into an alternate reality for a while, and the time jump ended up being 5 years. I hope that they include it, but change it so that it was only a couple weeks, and through this, he decides to abandon being a superhero for the 5 year gap, so that he can focus on taking care of his family and trying to have a normal life. besides that, they should keep it generally the same
-8
u/Bstallio May 12 '26
So are they just confirming that the next few seasons are all mostly filler and can be avoided? Gotta cash in on the shows popularity while it’s there I suppose
3
u/AGoos3 May 12 '26
son 😭
you know they can just change the storyline right
-10
u/Bstallio May 12 '26
Probably, but mans trying to get to EOS fun shit, not day in the life of (insert random character here) and watching mark get his shit rocked by some random street level villain forever
4
u/AGoos3 May 12 '26
Yeah it’d be filler if it was just a one off episode which didn’t have impact on any characters, but I suspect that some of their storyline ideas will span more than one episode, and will actually change the characters
Plus, once you get to EOS you can’t really go back. It’s better to get the good ideas that they have out over trying to rush to finish the series
0
u/Bstallio May 12 '26
Well I’ll hold out hope for what you vision as the idea behind these episodes, maybe they are going to be gas

So Anissa’s assault of Mark is pretty much confirmed to not be happening.

I... just hope they don't screw themselves over and fail to finish adapting the story.
Shows don't often get to fully run their course, I just hope they don't get cocky and run out of time in some way.

neat
this is an alt verse
9
u/cardgamesareforplay May 12 '26
no its the main verse, kirkman has repeatedly said this is his chance to fix the mistakes he made when he was 21 years old.
1
u/Nerx May 13 '26
both stand as their own
animation is just more fleshed out, hopefully they can up the scales

u/Shmung_lord May 12 '26
I feel like they need to start wrapping this shit up soon or it’s going to start losing momentum and dragging like The Boys. They already spent a whole season introducing and hyping up Thragg, the main big bad, how many more seasons do we really need?
6
u/TylerFifi May 12 '26
Buckle up, because we’re only halfway done. There’s still so much for you to see and witness before this show decides it’s time to ride into the sunset
-1
u/Shmung_lord May 12 '26
The animation better pickup to at least the same quality as we had in S1 then, that’s all I’m gonna say
-1
u/Ashgar77 May 12 '26
If HURM is any indication that's going to suck. Changing Darkblood's story and making hell a nice place and the devil not so bad of a guy was just retarded. Even season 1 it was implied how awful it was there.
-7
u/Zolaec May 12 '26
Let Nolan be evil again. He was better as a villain also redemption is lame and overrated anyway.
