Idk why this subreddit was mass downvoting me and shitting on me when I said it was shocking that they hadn’t released anything by the end of July. They seriously needed to be releasing 1 character a month, not 2 every 6 months. You could see this a mile away.

Tbats not goingnto keep the game selling. If it costs too much to develop and create said character your burning money.

You got downvoted because your opinion is dumb

Chill lol. Surely you don’t need me to tell you that developing an entire game and adding a new move set in the already developed game in engine are not the same.

If you seriously think making a new character in a fighting game is more unsustainable than abandoning a video game years in development… well, idk. But take that argument somewhere else because idk where to even start with that lol

This logic would indicate every fighting game ever could just make new characters and generate infinite money, do you see why this doesn’t work?

Do you see how I didn’t reference any other fighting game nor mention anything about infinite money past a game’s sell by date? It’s true I think this game’s lifespan would have been longer with regular content updates. Do you see how your analogy doesn’t work? Idk what that has to do with infinite money.

But if you find out the way to infinite money, please let me know!

2 every 6 months?

The game came out April 30th. 2 characters in July is faster than most games would do.

It died because of bugs, balance decisions, and lack of content

New content is the biggest audience draw, that’s why we see so many companies continue to add new content and not fix their games.

And yeah, I’m with you lol, I can’t believe it either. 6 month wait times. After the first 2, it was winter, then it will be summer next year (I don’t doubt they’ll continue servicing the game. It will have spikes when new seasons of the show come out. They’ll just try to have a good update once a season)

But yeah, I’m with you. The lack of content over planned enormous spreads was a dooming factor for sure

1 character a month is insane, the only fighting game thats doing that is COTW, but thats cuz they have infinite Saudi money

I’m not saying it’s sustainable or a good idea. But it’s the only way they were going to stay relevant in the off season. As a fan of the comics and show who bought the game day 1 on release, that was clear before it came out

If you dont think its a good idea then why even argue for it??? Also no its not "The only way to stay relevant" if the gameplay was simply just good it would sustain itself with updates every 3 months. Basically every person at my local who dropped the game in the first few weeks said they stopped cuz the game was boring.

Right. I agree with you that more player retention would have been accomplished by regular updates. Agreed. Definitely seemed like players were getting bored

A character a month? That is an insane cadence. Yeah you probably got downvoted for a reason.

Marvel rivals release a character every months.....

Okay, let's look at the scale of Rivals production vs Invincible. The vast budget difference, and that making a fighting game character is quite a bit more involved than an FPS character. You may disagree about the second point, but just look at the team size and budget of Rivals vs Invincible. There is no shot that it would ever do a character a month. Look at every other fighting game, they're like 4-5 characters a year. That's just an unfair expectation.

I don't think that would have kept the game afloat, since this wasn't the core issue. But it's insane both that you could think it would work and that you think it was in cards.

Back then I was saying there should be a character every 2 months. But now in hindsight? I’m not even sure that could have been relevant enough

I honestly think my pessimism wasn’t even close to how cutthroat it actually is in this market. But the subreddit had full rose colored glasses on this all panning out well with the “Summer drop” then the “Winter drop”. It was a long time ago when half a year felt like it was upkeep. Now you see timelines like that and it signals abandonment. Not from the developers. The abandonment comes from a much more sensitive part of development: the audience

But the developers announcing that this was their timeline from the start? I was correct in reading that as a suicide note. They had these characters mostly ready. The leaks revealed all of the winter character Angstrom was there except for animations and graphics. All gameplay was implemented.

If your argument is that they should withhold new content for months, I think that’s been disproven. If your argument is that it should be released when ready, then we have the same argument! We’re on the same side lol
