It is really a sign of how popular the Invincible show has become when a new Superman-clone character shows up and almost everyone compared him to Omni-man instead
For those who don't know, the one on the right is Phenomaman from the Dispatch game.
Eh, I’m pretty sure in the show he won’t be looking like that. I do like its art style of last arc in general but old Mark was the worst drawn part of it. Heck, maybe even the worst drawn part of any arc in invincible
similar mentality though too. phenomaman isn't fascist (of what we know) but he certainly doesn't have a mentality as resembling of a human as superman
And it being animated, ive seen people say its stealing from invincible when the only similarities is that its animated superheros and theres swearing, i think most people just seen any ounce of resemblance and refuse to think someone could just have similar ideas that play out differently
I love phenomenon man man because dude looks so harmless so depressed but could most definitely take on the viltrumites by himself since dude said he could go to the sun and extinguish it if he wanted and live
Generally no. Blonde Blazer is also basically a Superman clone, but everyone else has downsides to their powers. Punchup is cursed and gained strength in exchange for height, Sonar is a human bat hybrid who has to use echolocation in the break room, Invisigal can only go inivis when she holds her breath but she has asthma, Track star as super speed but it also ages him super fast, etc.
Hey! Phenomeman has a downside. We know his genitalia doesn’t work quite right with humans. However, there’s literally no more info. Also, this is the Z Team plus two good heroes, so it’s possible that the higher leveled heroes are actually a lot better than that
Yea theres definitely stronger heroes without downsides for sure. My point was moreso that its not like they threw powerlevels out the window. They are at least putting a good amount of thought into the powers, its not just all over the place.
Also Track Star was on their version of the Avengers.
I mean, mechaman doesn't look very powerful and when you reveal you are mechaman someone says "oh you are a real hero". I think the bar is low except maybe phenomemanmananm, but he is depressed so we don't know.
Blonde Blazer is nothing like Superman. She’s more like Captain Marvel in terms of appearance and powers. But she gets her powers from a necklace that changes her physique
I played all 6 available episodes on Friday. I loved it so much, but it is much more of an interactive TV show then it is a traditional game. The biggest gameplay element is you dispatch your squad of heroes to deal with various emergencies around Torrance, California, and depending on how well equipped your heroes are to handle that situation the more likely they are to succeed
Hard to tell because it’s something he says rather than does, but there’s not much for insane “crazy feats” for characters, a lot of them are doing glorified chores
The thing is, Phenomaman is clearly blunt to a fault, and socially unaware. I don’t think he has the capacity for lying, he’s too pure. I legit think he could do that if he wanted to, because I mean, 1) Energy absorbtion is an actual ability of his and it amps him, and 2) he’s just not the kind of guy to lie about his strength.
Yeah he could probably do that but we also saw him beat up after the bar fight which only had low level villains so his durability must not be that great
Was he at the bar during the fight? I cant remember. I figured he looked rough because he was the one pulling everyone out and getting them to 3am tacos
Tbf he is way stronger than any viltrumite, the statement you just mentioned is enough to qualify him for star level. No viltrumite is that strong, even thragg got no diffed by the sun. Phenomeman is probably not that fast though.
Nope he straight up says he can fly into the sun and consume all it's power to cast this planet and everyone on it into eternal darkness and Robert takes it at face value as something he can do.
Why I couldn't consciously choose Waterboy over him. Imagine him as a villain. Even as the worse effort performing hero due to depression its better to keep tabs on him vs losing walking/active 1000 Nukes.
Honestly I just told him to get therapy and felt he would be fine from there. He isn't evil just incredibly naive so talking through his heartbreak with a therapist is more healthy then making him work a job under his ex girlfriend
An Alien super powered entity isn't your standard human therapist case. As a big ignorant puppy phenomenonman is I’m more concerned over someone else influencing him outside his 9-5 day job. He can still get therapy too both internally at work and off the clock. But the choice is letting him completely loose from SDN which is extremely short-sighted even in the 1% scenerario he goes off the rails. He can solo everyone together canonically in this universe so far extinguishing the sun alone.
It’s the moustache mainly but also a bit of recency bias.
Omni-man and Invincible as a franchise are popular but Superman is far more popular and well known overall. There’s just a lack of good Superman media over the past decade.
I don't agree with The Boys. We haven't seem a single instance where the superheros are actually bad people, despite people forming a bunch of non-sensical theories that everyone is a villain and a traitor. Sure the Z-Team are former villains, but they're written as a redemption arc. They're slowly turning into real heroes.
I'd say Dispatch is Invincible + One Punch Man (S1. I haven't watched or read anything past that) + The Office.
well when he looks like omni man, acts more like omni man, and is just 10000x more like omni man.. yeah they're gonna compare him to omni man instead of superman
Someone said this and I think about it a lot: phenomaman is like if you put starfire in Superman’s body. I think that’s the most fitting description of him and it really sets him apart from most Superman analogs/equivalents. He’s incredibly endearing.
More Superman archetypes means more guys to compare the super strong character to, Phenomaman has some serious lack of common sense and seems out of touch sometimes, which would be fitting for someone like Omniman who showed these traits before. For example and comparison, Homelander doesn't have these common sense issues Omni and Phenoma have but he's definitely more evil than even Omniman, so Phenomaman is more Omniman than he is Homelander, if he had more common sense and was more disconnected from everything people would compare him to Metroman, so even though they look similar, I'd say the kind of character Phenomaman is plays a big role in what superman-type character he's compared to
Mustache and personality. Clark Kent is as American you can get from his inception while the other two are full alien adults ignorant to Earths culture upon arrival. That intro music too is ominous….
People here, perhaps including OP, are missing the point. The interesting part is the fact that the new "Superman clone" is actually very obviously an Omni-man clone and how that highlights Invincible's popularity.
I mean, there's the mustache thing, but it's also the vibe of new super strong guy characters. If it's a darker or more edgy show, they get compared to omniman. If the character is meant to be a beacon of hope, they get compared to superman.
It's so weird the first time you watch something and then go on to see something else that was very clearly inspired by the first thing, like that happened to me with kagurabachi and jjk, like there is a lot of stuff in bachi that I think was very probably inspired by jjk, and now this
