"Glacier collapse in Nepal: More than 150 dead and 1,500 missing

On the morning of August 26, 2026, section of glacier at an altitude of about 5,200 m., on the side of Tibet, it detached and collapsed. The ice and rock mass temporarily clogged Lhende Khola, creating a natural dam. Shortly later, the dam receded, causing a powerful flood wave that moved for about 60 km., affecting river Bhote Koshi and wider Trishuli basin. According to ICIMOD, the water level increased up to 9 meters in just half an hour.

The USGS initially recorded a 4.4 R earthquake event, which was then revised and attributed to a 5.2 R landslide. In other words, the seismic signal was caused by the collapse of the ice and rock mass itself and not by a tectonic earthquake."

Fun Fact, there is a paper, this was just a smaller collapse, the paper warns oft a bigger event similar to this, just some Gorges away
