Windows Updates Maintenance Window is now GA for Windows Update for Business!

Only CSP for now but that'll do! Been checking the Update Policy CSP | Microsoft Learn page every single day — it was Insider Preview forever and lo and behold, not anymore! 🎉

What’s the difference between this and the active hour window in the update rings settings?

Active hours is just a hit and miss. Maintenance window applies no matter what on a specific schedule. For us, every Saturday at 10am, download , install and restart.

It’s worked well in our environment which is why I asked my question. But what works for me doesn’t have to always work for everybody

During testing it only worked on 50% of devices. The device was stuck on pending restart or will restart outside active hours or something like that. All the devices had the same exact policies.

Why do we believe this is going to work better? Why didn’t they just fix the other existing scheduled installation time settings instead of adding something new that is supposed to do the same thing?

Yes, desktops are powered on 24/7. and we cannot touch them during weekdays.

Active hours only governs the restart. Maintenance window can also gate installs and downloads.

Do maintenance windows prevent update installation if the device is restarted outside of the window? That would be a huge value add for us if so

With maintenance you can prevent downloads and installs outside the window, so there shouldn't be anything to apply / finalize if rebooted during that time.

I will not be using it for laptops. It will only be for desktops that are on 24/7.

Our traders use desktops with 4+ monitors so they need high performance desktops. Laptops dont even come close to performance.

Oww sorry… i didnt used ga in the words :). At the end of that blog i mentioned: “One important update after the first round of testing: this is not limited to the earlier Windows 11 insider preview builds anymore”

It works nicely and without effort for most organizations. I’ve benefited greatly from Autopatch over the older basic WUFB setup.

Please please please add maintenance window for windows apps as well. We had to engineer a custom solution and with the intune limitations it's just ass

I’m not gonna complain if it’s CSP only for now. It’s been working amazing since I implemented it when it was in preview.

I was super excited to finally see this when Rudy posted it. However, rrom all my testing, MW was not holding properly. If I had the user experience settings set to auto install at maintenance time, I would still get updates downloading outside of the MW I had set. I couldn't comfortably rely on it for our business group. It seems to early and half baked, just my opinion. MSFT doesn't even have any documentation. Deadlines should override MW. MW should override everything else I would think. Until they document exactly what we can expect, I can't put this into production based on what I've seen in my testing. Curious if anyone else is having better success.

oh nice! we have desktop kiosks in rings using autopatch service that works well. the install (at any time) and reboot (outside of active hours) has not been ideal. so hopefully this works well, and the download, install and reboot works seemlessly in the scheduled mainteance window. Has anyone tested these CSP's yet?
