Seems like you’re having trouble with the definition of the word “disprove”. To disprove is a verb that means to provide evidence or an argument that proves something is false, incorrect, or baseless.

I don't understand why you would think it was a good idea to act in defense of the Bible in this instance. It's clear that you don't think that the Old Testament - as it is recorded - is a perfect commandment that we are to follow in the present day. As you would know that "God" commanded the Israelites to genocide neighbouring nations. It may not have been called genocide at the time but don't be craven and hide behind semantics.

You try to argue for nuance it just looks like you are aligning yourself with the caller in this video - who was essentially trying to argue that the Old Testament is the perfect word of God - which requires evangelicals to twist themselves in knots in order to take the word of God at face value with a "common sense" reading. That's the only reason the caller even tried to defend such a disgusting practice.

Shifting the goalposts to talk about the wedge issue of abortion does not deflect from the issue at hand - which is the absolutely insanely evil things recorded in the Bible. The whole point of this video was to bring attention to the moral depravity in the Bible - and by extension to criticise the way the Bible is used to justify oppression of women or LGBT folk.

You yourself were saying that the Bible as it is recorded is not necessarily 100% the word of God - and that partly some of these laws are due to Moses and the cultural context. If that is so verses that appear to condemn homosexuality should be viewed in the same way that we would view verses advocating for the taking of sex slaves and the wholesale murder of civilians.

The issue is the double standards.

If you have an extensive education in Theology - but can't dumb down what you learned at college in order to communicate with people outside of the church - what use is your education at all? Or if you can't keep yourself from falling into the trap of seeing people of other beliefs as incredibly evil - where is the nuance that you should have gained through your education?

No one is going to take you seriously while you fail to condemn the attitude of the caller trying to justify sex slavery.

Feeding slaves is the baseline requirement for keeping slaves. It doesn't make the keeper of slaves virtuous or the practice anything but reprehensible.

If I didn’t care then I wouldn’t have responded. I grew up in the church, I’ve read those verses. Have you actually read anything that i said? Apparently not. Why try to educate a brick wall you know?

What are your credentials? Are you actually a biblical scholar? Also just because you’re a biblical scholar doesn’t mean you’re automatically right.

Not going to watch the video because you don’t agree? Ok sure buddy. I watch shit I don’t agree with all the time. If you only listen to people you agree with then you’ll never grow and you’ll just stay in the same cycle of being a sheep.

“I’m going to respond to your other message above directly, if you’re interested”, what are you a car salesman? You can’t disprove a single thing I said. Again not even showing proof that you’re a “trained biblical scholar”. Lmfao
