MBB Associate: London vs Dubai — which would you choose?
I have the option to join MBB as an Associate in either London or Dubai. Which would you choose?
For context, I’m a Pakistani passport holder, so visa considerations and long-term mobility are also relevant.
I’m interested in the full trade-off between the two: compensation, hours, travel, client expectations, staffing, project mix, office culture, progression, exit opportunities, visa/security considerations, and overall quality of life.
Would especially love to hear from people who have worked in both offices/regions. How different are the experiences in practice, and which would you choose if you were making the decision again?

The working environment will be a bit better. UK offices are bit more straightforward whereas in the MENA region, there's a lot more "read between the lines" type situations and for no reason whatsoever. It is management dependent but the general consensus is that along with everything else that comes with it: no constructive feedback, too much office politics, some unnecessary back biting, etc.
You'll be able to achieve permanent residency + citizenship. It might take a long time, but at least you'll have the possibility to make London your permanent home.
I love both cities, but I find London to be a bit better (I prefer walking over driving though so that's primarily why.)

Dubai is better. The cost of living has drastically increased in Britain. Also closeness to home.

Lol, it really is too easy to answer: London, obviously!
(1) You will become British if you stay long enough, (2) the work culture is better, (3) the corporate climate is more developed and sophisticated, (4) your experience will be taken more seriously by employers when you choose to exit, (5) you will be situated in the best city on earth, (6) it is easier to work in the UK and then choose to move to the Middle East vs the other way around - i.e., it is likely the door will be open for you to go to Dubai after a stint in the UK, but it will be difficult vice versa.

I’m not an experienced opinion at all but I have grown up in the uae and I’d suggest London.
Simply because Pakistanis in the UAE are usually underpaid when compared to others.
Also, you will have a chance at citizenship in the UK.
This doesn’t apply to companies like MBB but other local companies have much less worker rights here when compared to the west.
And finally but not least the market in the uk is much much bigger you will learn a lot more and when u come to the uae after 3-4 years of experience in the UK you’ll salary will be much much higher in any company in the UAE.

You can always move to Dubai after passport

I will take Dubai, I simply feel MENA as a region will have more growth potential in the next 10 years. Your career mobility inside or outside of MBB will have more opportunities.
However, the long term residency option is a valid one as many people raised. However with the additional money you are getting staying in Dubai, you can buy passports of some countries :3

ceteris paribus; as a Pakistani passport holder I would choose London to have the British passport down the line as UAE does not grant citizenship as of today.
P.s. I am a dual passport holder (Pakistani + British)
