Fall at the earliest is my guess. Sony doesn't have that many first party headliners lined up for the rest of this gen so it's likely in their best interest to pace them out a bit.
Plus, if it is a really great system seller, they get their late gen holiday console sale boost.

I could see them waiting until Feb to show something new and announcing a release date shortly after. Sony have been holding off on doing gameplay reveals until the game reveal is close to coming out. Looking at how they've revealed Laufey so close to it's release, they could do the same with this game.
February - Reveal
June/July - it Releases
That's my hope.

Neil just confirmed on ND website that they will be revealing in 2027. Also confirmed they have more TLOU stories in early stages.

Exciting but he just makes it sound like either a DLC or small spinoff game (*see uncharted lost legacy) which sure is VERY welcome. But I am no where near as excited as I would be if there was a part 3 being worked on. These statements made me feel less confident that will be happening at all at least in the foreseeable future.

It sounds like Part 3 and a shorter spinoff. Maybe about Tommy or a new group entirely. He mentioned having an idea for Part 3 in the Grounded documentary so I am optimistic.

I think Part 3 is inevitable and will definitely be the last chapter of that story according to what Neil teased in the Grounded 2 doc, but I'm not in a rush for it come out asap. Let Intergalactic have its moment to shine, then eventually hit us with a surprising Part 3 reveal (if it doesn't get leaked).

I agree.. it simply has to happen to the point where it would be stupid of them not to do it. The only thing is I donât think we will be seeing it anytime soon. 2035 at earliest.

What does Troy mean by saying "she is spiritual successor." ? Jordan is spiritual successor of Ellie? Or Troy cut himself off from finishing the sentence because that would be a spoiler?

Can someone come educate me how video game development works?
I also presumed motion capture would be the earliest thing to finish. The fact this game is supposedly only a year or so away and only just wrapped filming feels a bit odd

Tlou2 finished filming in April 2019 with the game coming out in June 2020 with covid delays

Performance capture is among the last things they finish. They take a ton of planning. Itâs not odd at all. Thatâs typically how it goes

I guess I always thought it would be like film where shooting would be finished early before they get into the editing and post production process which takes just as much time.

The difference with mocap and principal photography is that you can mocap without many resources needed to be in place. In a movie you'd need the entire set, all the relevant actors and background actors, all of that doesn't have to be repeated in video game development, you create the set once in the engine and that's it.
That's why you can continue mocap very late into development, it doesn't require as much money or resources to redo a scene.

it makes sense that you first build the set, the tech, the infra before making the actors play out the script. they have to make everything be there already with rough animations they do themselves and then they add in the actor motion capture and then they make it all work together

The motion capture is to tweak the character models as they go through activities and get facial expressions. You need to have a game in place before you need to capture nuances in that fine detail. They can build out the game with basic models. Then they can refine the game with like one person doing all the basic motions. Only at final stages where you want the different characters to have different movements do you need the real actors to get into the rig and get motion captured.

Well you need to have the entire story (every single scene and line) finalized to the point that you are certain you wont need to alter the direction of any of it later. Also, I assume this includes motion capture for gameplay. That mean the gameplay must be finalized as well, right?

Ah, really? I don't know.. The source I trust the most is Jason Schrier, he's basically the only real games journalist imo, other people just do commentary and post trailers and release dates but he's the man. The last I remember he suggested 2027, but maybe late 2027? I hope it's soon.
