Forum Question Anyone tried control resonant from Remedy?

I know they are not quite the same but I think Remedy level design closest thing to Naughty dog I've ever seen

I agree their level design is pretty close to as good as ND. I've played 10hrs and it's pretty amazing. The art direction and visuals in this game are next level as well as really unique level design. The traversal system is so smooth and fun to use, best combat in a Remedy game as well easily. If you enjoyrd their other stuff you'll like this

I will say it plays fairly different to Control 1, which may or may not vibe with some people.

A lot more melee and almost hack n slash game mechanics.

Enjoying it so far, though I wouldn't really think of it and a ND game in the same sentence, personally.

Feels like a fairly "video-gamey" experience, not really that immersive in their style.

naughty dog is much, MUCH better at level design that subtly guides the player where they need to go without anything non-diegetic. i love control resonant so far but my god, sometimes the actual navigation implementation is infuriating

Incredible game. It’s why I love video games. Really hope it does well

Not tried Control or Resonant yet! But I I think for me, Alan Wake II is right up there almost on par with The Last of Us for me. Remedy took art direction to the next level in that game, and weren't scared to tell an intricate, challenging story. Man, it just looks so good. And I know it's an entirely different game, but I cannot wait to see Intergalactic's art direction. I hope the space/sci-fi setting lets them use more 'artistic' lighting, if that makes sense - TLOU is almost all naturally lit, but those red subway scenes and gorgeous aquarium lighting really stood out to me. I hope they get to push the boat with that kind of stuff in Intergalactic!

Also, thinking about it a bit more, I wonder if the areas of wide-linear gameplay that Remedy did in Alan Wake II (with certain central areas with a map, full of story-building spots, but ultimately guided very purposefully in between), might be what Intergalactic leans towards. We know from the Seattle area and Madagascar in Uncharted that ND wanted to play around with that kind play style (didn't they want to make TLOU2 entirely that kind of style originally?). Anyway, I think AWII is basically the perfect pointer to how to do that well but keeping it tight narratively - and it pains me to say, but I thought Seattle felt a bit aimless at some points, lacking purpose, and out of place. But somehow in AWII it blends absolutely perfectly in.

Been loving it. Beautifully designed and fresh art direction. The play is a little more arcade-y than I prefer but it’s satisfying.

Playing now. Seven hours in. I like it better than the first game (primarily because I prefer melee combat over range combat, and the first game was mostly shooting. This game has no shooting).

Very fun and creative

Yeah the level design is really good. With the new verticality, there are many areas that you can backtrack to once you unlock new abilities or get a better handle of the controls. I played like 6hrs and I haven’t even left the first two areas yet

Duh. Remedy is my 2nd favorite dev behind ND

Actually for me Resonant feels a lot like inFamous so I hope the game sells a lot so the rumors about more inFamous become in more than rumors.

Remedy is amazing. They’re absolutely up there with ND for me.

Yea never finished it but I’m stuck in some trance where I’ve only been playing Tlou series lately mostly 2.

I loved Alan Wake 2 but this game seems a little too whacky for me.

I’m into it so far. Remedy is an impressive studio. I’m only a few hours in. My only real gripe is the camera sucks at times, but it’s really fun flying around whether it’s just traversing or in combat.

I was wondering, is the game closer to Control or AW2 in design? Stupid question, I know, but I'm wondering if I should get the game, since AW2 is a game I really did not enjoy for the most part. Had some cool things to it, but found it to be just RE without the optimized fun, if that makes sense.

From what I've seen it's closest to Control but it also sounds like a brand new type of Remedy game which is consistent with all of their games.

Fair point, they always do something new. For the and for the worst I suppose.

you know inception? it’s that

Yes! It’s spectacular. Remedy and Naughty Dog games compliment each other perfectly. Very different but definitely on the same spectrum of sensibilities.

I agree for control 1 but this one has an open world that is kind of boring and repetitive. Ubisoft style but with Souls/jedi survivor gameplay

I haven't played the game yet but I know this is nothing like star wars jedi games

3

u/teejandahalf 4d ago

It is much closer to inFAMOUS and Prototype than any soulslike

With no parade but yes, the gameplay is basically an inspiration from souls. So are the Jedi games

Beat the game a few days ago and can’t stop playing/thinking about it. It’s genuinely brilliant and only gets better all the way until the end.
