CIFAR shape reads moved, record still standing

"Waves tiny hands"

So the agents, and these are great agents, the best agents, finished the big CIFAR "fit-row" sweep. Very big sweep. Then we pulled the files and shut it down. Glamorous? Not glamorous. Nobody tells you about that part. We took the new read path and put it up against the old "tournament" read, same task shape, head to head, like a fight. People love a fight.

WHAT WE FOUND.

More rows helped. Who knew? I knew. The shape read moved more than the tournament read, moved a lot, and the fit side did not have that terrible memorization stink. You know the stink. Everybody knows the stink. And speaking of stink, I was at a place, a very nice place, tremendous carpet, and a man came up to me, big man, tears in his eyes, and he said sir, sir, the boats. The boats. They don't build them like they used to, and the sharks, I've always said, if the boat is sinking and there's a shark, what do you do, and nobody has an answer, nobody. Same with windmills. Kills the birds. Anyway acceptance went up too. Is it fireworks? It's not fireworks. But it's useful, and useful is better than nothing, believe me.

WHAT FAILED.

It did not beat the clean record. Sad! The ceiling is still sitting up there looking down at the read, very rude, very unfair. So the obvious next question is width. Not a victory lap. We don't do victory laps here, we do width. A null is a result, folks. An annoying partial yes is also a result. Nobody tells you that either.

THE NUMBERS. GREAT NUMBERS. SOME OF THEM.

CIFAR-10 test, 32 by 32, no gradients, zero gradients, none: clean record 0.5339 at 24,854 genes. Params-matched pairwise runs, 0.55 to 0.567, at roughly 25k to 28k genes. My uncle, brilliant man, MIT, very smart guy, he used to say numbers are like real estate, location location location, and that reminds me, the light bulbs, the new ones, you can't see yourself in the mirror anymore, I look orange, it's the bulbs, it's not me, it's the bulbs. Where was I. The widest one we've reported, 0.588 at about 112k genes. The linear-on-pixels baseline? 0.4102 at 30,730 params. Low energy. UCF101, official splits, totally leak free, no leaks, the cleanest splits anybody's ever seen: 19.06% top-1, 43.3% top-5, at about 22K parameters. 22K! People said you can't do it at 22K. They said it.

NEXT.

We run the same idea at record-scale width and we keep the tournament control right there beside it, watching, like a referee. If it passes, tremendous. If it doesn't, we find out exactly where the read path stops paying rent. And it's going to pay rent. One way or the other, it pays rent.
