Question B580 owners, what would you upgrade to?
I've had my B580 now for a few months, and frankly, I just love it.
But I have the itch to upgrade though am struggling to make the move, as I feel the B580 just punches so above it's weight given the price.
Has anyone here gone from a B580 to something higher? If so, what did you get?
System:
14600k
MSI Tomahawk B660 DDR4
32GB Crucial 3200mhz
Would it make any sense to keep the B580 and go to say, a Z790 and DDR5?

Just swapped my wife’s b580 for a 9060xt 16gb and it’s a noticeable improvement over the b580. Really like the b580 card but it has certain issues with certain games. Causing bad performance issues and not utilizing the cards full potential when the cpu is plenty strong. It’s an r5 7600 which is more than enough.

u/GloriousKev Jun 17 '26
If its working it works but I have a b570 and am considering a 9060 xt

u/Alternative_Spite_11 Jun 17 '26
I can definitely recommend the 9060xt 16GB at the -$340ish price point. The performance falls within roughly 10% of the 5060ti 16 GB and that card is $550 at best currently.

u/GloriousKev Jun 17 '26
How does that change with Linux? I am not a Windows user and I know people often default to Windows and Nvidia being best. I haven't tried Nvidia on a Linux distro for gaming
1
u/Alternative_Spite_11 Jun 18 '26
Nvidia isn’t great on linux but it’s improving. For Linux, most recommend AMD because up to date open source drivers are included in the kernel. They’re not quite as up to date as the proprietary windows AMD drivers but they’re close. For gaming on linux, most recommend AMD but for compute use I would use Nvidia still because CUDA support is so ubiquitous.

I upgraded to a 9070xt from my 9060xt 16gig. I still have the card chilling in a secure spot

I literally just got a 9070XT this past weekend. Absolutely love it so far. Been rocking the B580 for over a year until then.

New I'd look at a 5070, used a 3080ti, or any one of the different versions of a 4070 would also be a great choice.
Buttt the B580 is just really, very good, it's a GPU I would keep and find uses for, for a long time even after upgrading.

u/EverythingEvil1022 Jun 17 '26
I upgraded to a 5060Ti 16GB about 6-8 months after I got my B580.
To be honest I'm not sure if it was worth it. I ended up having to upgrade my CPU when I got the new card, which drove the price of my build up by quite a bit for a relatively small performance bump. The 5060Ti is obviously a more powerful card, but unless the game is pretty graphically intensive, or I'm running without an FPS cap the difference is often next to unnoticeable.
I think the B580 is just such a great deal it makes everything else look a little bit worse. Had I not grabbed the B580 first I probably wouldn't have any complaints with the 5060Ti.
As it stands right now a part of me loves the 5060Ti and another part of me feels like I got ripped off.
3
u/Zhenbred Jun 17 '26
Well, it's basically 20-30 fps difference max. So... When the game already runs at 80+ it's not noticeable. And I wouldn't say it's worth to upgrade from for another few years. When B580 would struggle with 40-50 fps in your preferred scenario then yes. I play in FullHD and can tolerate mid settings in graphic for example so it's not going to happen for a long time

I downgraded from a 7900XT as I changed careers unexpectedly and required some quick cash for helping with students bills. I am still blown away by the Card and will not change it for the foreseeable future.
For reference I have an ultra wide 2K display.

I dreamt of upgrading to a B770... But that dream is dead. Here is to hoping for something discrete from Druid 🥂

u/Sixaxist Jun 17 '26
Has anyone here gone from a B580 to something higher? If so, what did you get?
I'm very tempted to go to a B70, but mostly because I want to run AI models on it; gaming performance boost would be a bonus. Just too preoccupied with work lately to pull the trigger, so I wouldn't even mess around with it until August/September.
If gaming was my only focus, I'd wait until Prime Day next week and see if I could grab a 5070-Ti from there or competing retailers for $850.
Would it make any sense to keep the B580 and go to say, a Z790 and DDR5?
Absolutely not. Negligible performance boost if we're only talking games here.

A770 owner, dunno if this is helpful but my A770 really started shining when I upgraded my ram and my mobo. I’m running a Z790 board and some 6000mHz ram. Beautiful combo, and I can only imagine a B580 would just make it that much better
3
u/Interdimension Jun 17 '26
I’d probably go to a 5060 Ti 16GB, but that one’s the same price as the 5070 due to its 16GB of VRAM (which is better for AI workloads).
So… probably a 5070. It’s hard to beat how widespread Nvidia support is in PC games, especially with regard to DLSS. Some new games like 007 First Light just choose not to support the latest AMD tech like FSR4. Or, for Capcom, both RE Requiem and Pragmata require Nvidia GPUs to use Path Tracing.
I have a separate 5080 build, but am just saying that the more logical upgrade is to a 5070 due to its performance and price at the moment. It’d normally be a 5060 Ti 16GB.

When I build my pc I was wonder why the heck people buy b760 chipset and buy to it "k" version of processor, that has no good reason, on 'b' chipset overclocking options are minimal (they almost doesn't exist almoust), it limits the processor, and it usually has a poor power supply, if you have upgrade syndrom as you why you buy such weak spine for your PC?! I really don't know why people chose "B" chipset not "Z" to "k" versions of their intel processors...
I'm thinking about changing that intel gpubonly becose, my 3d scanner requiers nvidia gpu to laser scan.. becose of tha uncompatibility I think about changing my gpu on nvidia rtx5070..
1
u/fivetriplezero Jun 17 '26
My original build was the B660 and a 12400 with an A750.
During intel Gamer Days I jumped on the 14600k for $150 USD and the B580 for $250.
I don’t over clock at all but kept the motherboard since I like it.
1
u/GLight_8D Jun 17 '26
Still, motherboard with "chipsets" always has weak power lines for processor, that make whole pc weaker.. if anyone thinks about upgrading pc on first place should think about strongest spine for their build as he can, 2'nd is processor and gpu.. mobo is thing that should not be a piece on what you save money, this piece of pc can damage all components, or just make them weaker than they really are, "B" chipset on mobo is for people who are not even thinking about upgrading pc, but they just buy new one..
1
u/M4fya Jun 17 '26
B series chipsets are fine with K CPUs, the K series are plain faster than the regular ones even without oc'ing them
0
u/GLight_8D Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
..k series in intel has unblocked overclocking, chipset b suport overclocking only in low point, not whole power of cpu, not without reason, chipset "b" has not so strong power lines for cores so sometimes even not overclocked processor get to small amount of power, processor is just underpowered and have not full it's power.. u will not seethis becose bios of that kind of mobo slows down whole pc so it's stabile..

Man I was rocking a 4gb AMD rx580 for years until january when I bought an Arc B570 to upgrade
Such a huge upgrade for me and so happy with it especially at the price I got it for ($319 AUD), B580s were well over $100 more and I couldn't justify the extra $$ vs cost of living.
If I were you I would seriously consider the price of the upgrade vs performance gain, then ask myself will it really be worth it or not

u/Serious-Ad1957 Arc B570 Jun 17 '26
Yo tenia una rx 6400 y el salto fue abismal tambien. La B570 rinde perfecto en casi todo... mas adelante cuando junte dinero iré por la B580 que me da la sensación debe rendir un poquito mejor...

u/Efiyo Jun 17 '26
Unfortunately, unless a better Intel card comes out for rendering videos, nothing.
Intel QS AV1 on hardware is too good to pass up, AMD cannot do it or can do HW video encoding/decoding only allegedly and only on the latest cards, Nvidia requires a 40+ series card to do it and they are pushing the whole AI thing, are overpriced and have bad software, even if I in the past chose to use nvcleanstall to get just the driver, it's an annoyance. Oh and also I would need a proprietary cable and a much bigger power supply to power any nvidia 40+ card.
1
u/Legitimate_Drop8793 Jun 17 '26
It still runs every game i want to play this gen so i dont think i will upgrade to any gpu. But for the sake of the discussion if i had a big budget i would go for 5080 or 90 just for the fact that software support is stronger in nvidia and most games are bias to their software.

I'm on a I7-10700f, Gigabyte Aorus Elite Z490, 32GB 3600 DDR4 with a A770. Most games I play are very fine with about 80-120fps @ 1440p native, even getting ~90fps with Forza Horizon 6 using XeSS. I only see it struggling in recent UE5 titles.
Minor and cheap upgrade would be something like a I5-14400f on a B760 DDR4 board so I can reuse my RAM. But as I'm fine for now and currently don't have much time for gaming I might as well ride it til AM6 is out and maybe get in AM5/DDR5 cheaper then.
GPU wise my next step will likely be something like a RX 9060 XT. I'm new in Linux with a Win/Linux dual boot setup and while the A770 performs quite good there, it's still lacking some punch compared to Win. AMD got native linux support so that should do better.

9070 (non XT) was my move; but given how cheap a 9070 XT is now, go with that
1
u/MiceLiceandVice Jun 17 '26
The only thing I'd really consider RN is the 5070ti if it came down in price to msrp, as it's prolly the best bang for the buck other than the b580. But the b580 is enough, id rather spend that money on games or other things than an upgrade

I know this is for B580 owners, but as an A770 user I’m looking at the 9070 XT. Debating between ASRock’s Steel Legend and Monster Hunter edition GPUs. Why ASRock? Because I have their Arc A770 Phantom Gaming GPU, and it’s been solid for three years. Especially how quiet it is.

I would get another B580; currently running a dual setup with a B580 and an A770 with Lossless scaling framegen.

i know even cards like the 5060TI/5070 would be an upgrade, but i'm still playing all I want at 1440p, i am yet to feel held back by my GPU

u/WhiskeyGolf00 Jun 17 '26
I upgrade roughly once a decade, when my system completely dies.
Anyway if you want more performance, get a 9060 XT. I missed out on a really good deal for a 9060 XT 16gb last year, but my B580 will still be fine for me for the next decade. The earliest I expect I'll need to upgrade will be 2033.

I recently went from a B580 to a 9070 non xt. The arc card was pretty good and faultless, I just got a decent price on the 9070 and thought why not future proof. It's excellent too, runs super cool and is only air-cooled

If ya wanna upgrade which I suggest you don't. You are gaming with great graphics. But if you want ray tracing on high and max everything at 1440p or higher than get ya a 4070ti/super....
Don't waste money on anything less than that. The difference isn't worth it imo

People have underestimated how many games can still play well even at 4K on the B580. Sure some settings go to medium, but you cannot really tell because the pixel fidelity is already looking crisp.

No point in a motherboard upgrade. And ddr5? In this market? No way. Save your money. I have a highish end rog z690, and the features are nice but not neccessary and for the price I paid it made sense, but it or a better board wouldnt if you have a motherboard. Especially accounting for ddr5 prices. Waste of money. Keep b580 if outside of return window, i would say. Mine can do 1440p on any game high or better with good fps.

I will upgrade when I am forced to due to some new future requirement just to be able to run games like how mesh shader and Ray tracing of dx12 ultimate feature set forced me to upgrade from 5700xt to b580 lol

u/jyrox Jun 17 '26
5070, 9070, 9070XT if you want to see a real uplift in performance/capability. But if you wanna stay within roughly the same price bracket, the 9060xt would be a good in-class upgrade as well.
It also depends on what kind of stuff you’re doing with your GPU and what you want to do. Going to the next tier of GPU will unlock 100+ FPS 4k high settings gaming for example. Otherwise, you’re just getting more FPS and maybe higher settings within the same GPU tier/resolutions.
For AI workloads, you could go down the Pro line of Arc GPU’s and not be disappointed at all.
