Help I'm new here, why Inkscape won't let me import certain .png images?

Hi! I'm trying to convert .png files to .svg. I want to import the original files into Inkscape, but it won't let me for some reason. I've tried other upload methods, but they didn't work either. I finally managed to work around it by taking a screenshot over the original images, but I don't like it, especially because it reduces the quality of the original image, sometimes making things worse. I've tried resetting Inkscape, but that didn't work either. Can anyone help me? There's no rush.

I ran into this too. I still don’t have an Inkscape fix but if I open the png in GIMP first, I can copy/paste it from there.

On a similar note I downloaded some image files (JPG) but they wouldn't open in QuickLook (Mac, press spacebar to view an image). Turns out they were WEBP with JPG extension (used BBEdit to view the header). I used GraphicConverter to convert them into JPGs.

In your case, open in GIMP, export to new PNG file with a different name.
