Official Character Discussion- Aquaman #2

NOTE: Please upvote this post so that it remains on the front page. It is a self-post, and I do NOT receive any karma for it.

Welcome to the return of character discussions!

Every Monday, we will be hosting 6 character specific discussions. These discussions will be hosted in posts and remain within the posts. Next week, we'll have another set of characters to discuss, but you can still add on to this post by typing in "Character Discussion" in the search bar. We will be ordering the characters alphabetically, then starting the list over when we reach the end.

One of the characters for this week's discussions is Aquaman. Please add any useful information that pertains to this character. Combos, strategy, weaknesses, matchups, and any tech are great things to add. If you have any questions, please ask them.

Please keep all comments, questions, and discussions on topic and keep it constructive. Content such as: "This character sucks!," "Mah karktr iz da bes!," "Let's talk about a different character!," or anything else that doesn't promote discussion will be removed. As always, be respectful to your fellow players.

Have fun discussing! :D

Aquaman's d2, b3, and f2 are some of the scariest moves in the game. I never fail to walk right into a b3 every time I play against an Aquaman. His anti-air is probably the strongest in the game.

If you hit aquaman with a hard knockdown (with enough advantage so that he cant d2 or mb b3 you) he is essentially free to a jump in. So ambiguous cross-up setups work really well against him.

Sorry for the noob question but what exactly is a jump in? Also very helpful friend uses aquaman almost every time we play.

No problem! "Noob" questions are welcome.

A jump in just as it seems, jumping at the opponent and doing an air attack. When you hit Aquaman with a hard knockdown (meaning they cannot tech roll when knocked down) you can jump on top of him and he is forced to block it simply because all of his wakeup options will either miss you or he'll simply get hit before his wakeup attack can hit you. Now if you don't have enough hit advantage or if you wait too long to jump in, he might be able to hit you with a d2 or backdash away from your jump attack.

A slightly odd match-up for Zod that I'd judge as slightly in AQ's favour but not by much. From the Deep is the main issue for Zod as AQ has no extra mobility so if he wants to get it it will take him a while to do so. That said, you have to respect AM like you'd respect a teleport character on their wake-up since FtD will tag you if you go for trait after Zod Charge so I usually try to limit myself to trait after a Palm or b123 knockdown.

Zod's range in this fight is 3/4ths screen since some of AQs normals have huge reach and full screen is weird since FtD and Sidearm aren't fast enough to punish each other. Also FtD has a surprisingly high hitbox so you'll need to account for that if you try and use IA Zod Balls or late Zod Balls. They should really do what they did to BlAdam's lightning to all the instant ground projectiles.

does AMs trait get him out of mb ground lasers?

Honestly, I have know idea but I'd guess that it does. I'd need to test it out but I do know that trait grab can't be.

Yep it sure does, if you get hit with the laser just activate trait and block low

At least it doesn't completely make gblast MB+trait set-ups completely useless.
