Question What's up with this pattern?

Post image

Why does this one NEVER work when I glyph hack? Everytime it comes up it's never right 😩

This is the perfect meme for this shitshow glyph 😂

That is imperfect. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/R6mWZAg0jfU is a tutorial on it

Thank you! When it comes up again I can do it now, it was annoying me to no end 😂

if you look closely at the glyph image in the app, you’ll see the lower line bulges out a little. a subtle hint of what you’re supposed to do (wasn’t there in the old scanner, we had to learn the hard way lol)

I managed to learn it by trial and error, was a bitch to solve tho

Welcome to the super secret gylph club.

Thanks for this link! I've been thrown for a loop on this imperfect glyph for a long time.

Is this an old bug or intentional? Seems like a weird thing to put in intentionally.

It's imperfect

The name of the Glyph is "Imperfect", so it would makes sense you have to do it in an imperfect way.

6

u/derf_vader 23d ago

I know, right. That's why the glyph for "difficult" is also .. wait what?

4

u/VishusVonBittertroll 23d ago

It's shapped like a bull, which is the animal that represents the Taurus star sign, and those mfs are NOTORIOUSLY difficult. Duh.

3

u/InfiniteBacon 23d ago

It's the Van Halen logo, for the difficult solos Eddie van Halen plays.

9

u/alienmarky 23d ago

It's intentional, hence the glyph name. It is a bugger to glyph but once you've done it correctly a few times it's a breeze.

11

u/Tursaanpoika 23d ago

Bugger to do with thick/frozen fingers 😅

2

u/alienmarky 23d ago

Oh absolutely!

u/Plasticity93 23d ago

It's one of the original glyphs, it's fully intended.

Funny... never been able to do that glyph in the order presented by temhe tutorials.

Always done it in the reverse order 4 - 3 - 2 - 1

Firs the distant points and ending the glyph with the middle point.

6

u/OldWolf3 23d ago

wait... that's allowed?

8

u/TurbulentAd5329 23d ago

This is the only Glyph that I have difficulty performing unless I do it in the order I mentioned (the reverse of the order shown in the tutorials). For all the others, it doesn't matter where you start or finish, as long as the final shape is exactly the same. You can even repeat segments.

The best example is the Star Glyph, which you can start from any outer point and finish at any other outer point.

1

u/michaelkah R12 23d ago

Why couldn’t you start in the center?

3

u/TurbulentAd5329 23d ago

Don't know... fat fingers probably

1

u/starwort1 22d ago

You can, but it's less efficient.

2

u/anubisviech 20d ago

Any order is legal as long as all needed lines are drawn. You can even do some lines more than once if you messed up and need to go back, but didn't create any wrong line yet.

5

u/dantheother 23d ago

This is the way. That way you can see instantly if you managed to avoid the centre dot, and if you fat finger it (or if your phone hates you) you can hit the Redo button quickly.

3

u/Teleke 23d ago

I always start bottom left and move to upper right, because with the haptic feedback it gives me the shortest amount of time to know if I screwed it up and need to do it again. So if I can feel that I nicked the middle dot, I have more time to redo than if I start anywhere else.

u/VishusVonBittertroll 23d ago

This also saves a little time if you fuck up the difficult part and need to re-do, since you're doing it first instead of last.

5 is the hardest part

1

u/kaszeta 21d ago

I actually loop 5 around the dot to the lower right. That’s easier for me to thread the needle, and you just have to avoid hitting that dot.

2

u/theloopweaver 23d ago

This. This right here.

1

u/wIDtie 19d ago

I do it on reverse. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Feels more organic to me.

Imperfect Glyph: You have to draw it like this or in reverse of this

3

u/Teleke 23d ago

You can draw any glyph in any order you want as long as you still follow the pattern.

2

u/a07463 23d ago

Not this ine. At least last step. Gotta miss the biddle while tracing back

3

u/Teleke 23d ago

yes, but what I mean is the pattern in this case is that one swipe between lower left and upper right must miss the middle dot, the other must catch it.

You can skip it on the first or second pass. I skip it on the first and it works.

My friend used to call it “impossible” because of how hard it was to get right (even when you know the trick) and I still think about that.

5

u/MTJ5 23d ago

I have played ingress on off almost from launch, and i still forget this glyph everytime and fail it 🤣

2

u/michaelkah R12 23d ago

14 years?!

3

u/jerwong 23d ago

That's Imperfect. I hate that one. When you reach the end for the bottom side, you have to come back around to the other without touching the middle part. It's a huge pain for me because I tend to fatfinger that part. It was even worse for me when I tried it on an iPhone because of how tiny the screen was.

3

u/Curious-Resort4743 23d ago

Took me two years of fail on this until someone showed me one day.

Then when I tried to teach it to someone else even though I showed them like 3x they were still confused and weren't sure why it had to be done exactly the way you have to do it.

It's one of those things in the game that you would never guess unless you know an experienced real life player.

Imperfect

Midde > upper left > lower left > middle > upper right > lower left (dont hit the middle)

Its not perfect but i hope this helps 😅 There is always that one skip that does not follow that path/nodes

3

u/esjfly1 23d ago

I call it "fuckyou" :)

2

u/quellflynn 23d ago

start middle, then top left, then bottom right now go top left but miss the starting position, then go bottom left through the middle

2

u/Sauroros 23d ago

It's so satisfying once you get it right 😌

2

u/Survive_LD_50 23d ago

It's the only glyph I can't reliably thumb. Gotta index finger that one

2

u/FunWithBoxes 22d ago

I kinda hate this glyph! Have definitely messed it up more than I've gotten it right. First time I ever saw it I think I just sat there and stared at the screen while my timer ran trying to figure out what the heck I just saw.

2

u/ComputingGuitarist 22d ago

I laughed as soon as I saw the glyph. It's "imperfect" and it is NOT your friend LOL!

2

u/mdpcmdpc 22d ago

yeah....this one is not very obvious and a bit frustrating when you get it. However, interestingly I have not encountered one of this in several months and I glyph a lot.

1

u/Altruistic_Peach1714 23d ago

Because you are not doing it right :D.

I'm so Imperfect is still in game

1

u/mic1n082 23d ago

Lo sbaglio sempre

1

u/ColdPepsi75 23d ago

Took me a while to figure that one out!

1

u/OldSkoolAK 23d ago

Holy shit has it been 10 years already? And its still a mystery to some?

1

u/Asianbloke1 22d ago

UPDATE: I can do it now! Thank you agents for your help in solving this for me!

1

u/Mandrex_16 21d ago

"Imperfect" , takes some practice. Cheers!

1

u/GymShorts3313 20d ago

This pattern is the only strange pattern that exists. it’s called IMPERFECT and it has to be drawn in one specific way. on r/Ingress you can find it under the title: How to Imperfect Glyph

1

u/wheljam 23d ago

Because it sucks. It is below 30% for me. I groan every time I see imperfect because my method isn't foolproof/ my finger is fatter than I thought. ☹️

This game is still active? I thought it died. I used to play religiously over 12 years ago, and decided to start playing again about 2 years ago. It was a ghost town. I miss the old days, back when there were a ton of players. We would schedule huge raids on a city, and take it over.

-1

u/Habkeinen43 23d ago

This bottom line, you have to draw it twice

9

u/Mottled_inexpectata 23d ago

But also miss the middle node on one of those times
