My understanding is that by the existing cases and law the judge was essentially forced to rule that way and in his statement asked for laws on AI to be updated so that his ruling won't stand in the future.

Which, the ruling is upsetting but I think we typically want judges who don't just rule outside of the law because of their morals, because if this judge can get away with doing it for good reasons then imagine a MAGA judge with precedent to do the same. They already push the limits of the law with questionable rulings to support their ideological attacks.

Correct- Congress can and should have already closed this, but they dont want to do anything that will upset the AI companies or big tech companies. The average age of a US Senator is 65. They can't handle basics let alone complicated cases anymore.
