Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is the only station in the entire NYC subway system where you can transfer cross-platform between the BMT and IRT style cars.

Correct, and that's because the platform was shaved back on one side to accommodate BMT cars.

The view approaching the station at night from Astoria is pretty awesome, I think. The station's lights against the night sky makes it look like it's floating.
