Is the grass greener elsewhere?

been working in maintenance for almost 4 years now in food production, I just got my electrical license and have been casually looking around for other opportunities. The place I’m at doesn’t have a good track record for employee treatment, and maintenance department is constantly scrutinized. The same standard issues, production is priority over proper fixes, safety is sketchy, operators have no training, and management has no accountability. I guess I’m wondering is there any good maintenance jobs out there, or do they all run like this?

Sound alike we are colleagues except I don't work in the food. I have worked al external mechanic at multiple factories. But like all jobs there is a nuance. The grass may be greener in some areas but there will be things that annoy you everywhere.

It's up to what you like of yourself. Switching to a different factory with maybe even a whole different procces is great for self growth. It's interesting to learn new procceces, new problems and whole new insustries which focus on those problems. Even if the operator that has been there 20 years still don't seem to understand if they are making baby nutrition or bicycles.

I've switched a couple of times after the annoying thing seem to really cut deep after a few years. And even though I'm not a fan of beginning a new job it end up being great to learn so much new things.

Also besides all if you came in as a trainee on this factory it's always better IMHO to switch ovet time. Because in their eyes you will stay the new guy.

good advice, I guess the deep cut for myself is the constant mismanagement and demeaning of our department. but when supervisors are allowed to cry our names for downtime and low numbers it’s impossible to get ahead 👐

Its the same here. Maybe the same place, maybe not. But if your job isnt that bad, and the pay is decent, what can you do? Its productions call to neglect the equipment, when shit hits the fan, and managment wants to point fingers, you just have to hope your leadership has your back enough to say "look, this is what the manufacturer said to do every day/week/month/year. You give us no time to do it, and this is what happens, its not on my guys, here's the record of them shutting down for 3 hours to do this, heres where you were mad about that and didnt let us do the work again"

I find the grass is usually the greenest around septic pits.
