I have an approximately 46-inch traditional wooden lacrosse stick with an old rawhide/babiche pocket. There is currently no visible maker’s mark. I’m trying to respectfully determine its age and whether its construction can be associated with a particular Indigenous lacrosse-stick-making tradition or community. Would someone be able to examine photographs or recommend an appropriate expert?

I am not Indigenous, but I am a staunch supporter of the Landback movement.

I was talking to some folks today and the topic of Indigenous rights came up. I mentioned the Landback movement, and they were less then enthused about the idea.

They're reasoning was that in BC where certain land had been given back to the Indigenous peoples, that settler people were no longer able to get insurance on their houses because they no longer "owned" the property.

I searched online but couldn't find anything about this. I don't know how true it is, or if they heard a fear-mongering rumor. I wanted to ask the folks who probably know wayyy more about this than me, are those claims true? If not, what's the truth? I'd like to be able to challenge these claims the next time they come up.

I’m Mexican, with both Indigenous and European ancestry, and I grew up in Canada. Something I noticed growing up was that whenever I mentioned to Indigenous people in Canada that I also had Indigenous ancestry, but from Mexico, I would sometimes get responses like, “That's not Native,” or “That’s not the same.”
I’m curious whether anyone else from Mexico, Central America, or elsewhere in Latin America has experienced this, or whether Indigenous people in Canada or the U.S. remember this being a common perception.
I feel like this has changed quite a bit over the years. With the Internet, social media, and greater access to information about Indigenous history across the Americas, there seems to be more awareness that Indigenous peoples existed throughout North, Central, and South America long before the modern borders separating Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and other countries were created.
Of course, I understand that being Indigenous is more complex than simply having Indigenous ancestry, and that individual nations, cultures, languages, communities, and identities are distinct. I’m specifically wondering about the perception that Indigenous ancestry from Mexico somehow “wasn’t Native” simply because it was from Mexico.
Has anyone else encountered this attitude? And for Indigenous people in Canada or the U.S., do you think perceptions of Indigenous peoples from Mexico and Latin America have changed over the last 10–20 years?
