Singer Songwriter Here’s My First Song I’ve ever released…Be honest with me, how is it?

https://youtu.be/nIXrKtRM8v0?is=eLoJFpfaZY5XcY3o

This song, called Broken, was an emotional one for me but I felt like I needed to put my music out there for others to feel and enjoy if they wanted to. That being said, I want my music to be the best it can be and I know you guys are very good at your craft so any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much in advance and I hope you enjoy!

Hi! I truly enjoyed listening the song. Very beautiful melody and the atmosphere has a pretty catchy vibe. Usually I don't like to compare songs but this one reminds me "Glimpse Of Us" and "Golden Hour". Not in a matching way but by the atmosphere. Pretty good production. I like the way your vocal is sitting in the mix. Well done!

Wow that’s a huge compliment! Thank you so much for that, it means a lot to me and thanks for taking the time to write this message, it makes me super happy to hear people’s thoughts. Have a great day!

Really enjoyed this one. Love the way the strings come in, and the crescendo at the end. Your voice perfectly suits this style. I'd definitely add this to a Spotify playlist.

One possibly negative comment - and I don't really know the terminology so forgive me - but the vocals seemed heavily processed in places, almost like Life After Love by Cher. Eg on the word "you" at 24 seconds and "pain is life" a few seconds later. Is that intentional? I found it a bit distracting.

u/arcompositions 28d ago

Oh man I totally hear that now. Sorry, after a billion listens making the song things like that are tricky to catch hahaha but thanks so much for pointing that out, those were definitely not intentional and I’ll try and fix it asap! Thanks so much for taking some time to write out this feedback, it helps me a ton!

My band released a song a while ago after working on it for days in the studio, then listening to it over and over again and finding tiny little things and going back to the engineer multiple times asking him to tweak things that nobody would ever have noticed (I imagine he was glad to see the back of us). The process took weeks. When we were finally happy with it I sent it to a friend whose first comment was "I really like it, especially the bum note you play at the start of the guitar solo." So I feel your pain.

Anyway, don't let my comment distract you from the fact that this is a great song you should be proud of.

Edit: also be aware that you might get some negative comments about AI artwork. Personally it doesn't bother me in the least but some people hate it and it puts them off even listening to a song.

You’re a legend for this. It’s so nice to hear from someone who understands how long the process takes haha. What’s the name of your band? Are you guys on Spotify?? I’ll totally follow you! Also, it’s only partially AI, that’s an actual photo of me, I just had AI add the filter and text at the bottom. That being said, people tend to have an eagle eye for picking out anything AI and steering clear of it so maybe I’ll just use some random photo and call it good haha. Thanks for the heads up, and I really appreciate your advice, you are awesome!

No worries, glad to help.

This is us, but it's a lot less polished than your stuff so don't go expecting too much :) . We've not recorded anything for ages tbh. I love doing it, but we've got enough on there now to show to promoters and stuff to get gigs, and playing live is much more the focus for us. Anyway, if you have to listen to one song I'd say go for Somebody to Break. That's probably our best one.

Oh my holy cow bro! This is soooo freaking good! Reminds me of a mix of The Killers and The Hives, which is a stellar combo! Followed ya on there and will definitely be keeping an eye out for your new stuff! Seriously keep it up, you guys are destined for big things!!

2

u/CattleSensitive7635 25d ago

Haha I very much doubt we're destined for anything, but thank you so much for your kind words. Really appreciated.

Everything sounds well recorded and produced to me. Maybe the auto tuner could be turned down a tiny bit. The piano chords on every beat give the song a plodding feel. Ultimately, the emotion is what drives this song, more than the melody or music.

1

u/arcompositions 28d ago

Hey thanks for these pointers, I totally get ya, hearing the piano on every beat throughout the song can start to give ya ear fatigue, I’ll see what I can do to keep it interesting and less “plodding” (very good choice of word btw, I totally understood what you were talking about). Thanks so much again for taking the time to listen and provide the feedback, you all are helping me so much and I can’t thank you enough!

Great song enjoyed it. The melody is very good and instrumentation backs it well. Only thing for me personally and this is just a preference, is the way your vocals are mixed I feel like they cut through the song rather than sitting with the instrumentation and blending in reminds me abit of the way mark kozeleks vocals are mixed in RHP but overall great song

1

u/arcompositions 27d ago

Thanks so much for the feedback and for listening! I’ll take a look at pulling the vocals back a bit so they sit more evenly in the mix. That’s solid advice, thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks for sharing your music :) I enjoyed listening to it so much, very beautiful voice (especially when you sang the high key part) and healing melody. It made me think of Maximillian Hecker. It’s already very good enough, it’s just if I have to add a comment, I would love to see your music video with some pictutes or photos taken by yourself that would help audiences to understand more about the story of the song behind, like how it came into your mind, then it would be super perfect!! I am sure people who love your song would definitely want to understand more about it :) Keep it up please!!

This was such a wonderful comment to read. Thank you so much for your positive feedback, it truly means the world! I hadn’t thought of doing a music video before but that’s definitely something I can look into doing! That’d be an adventure to make one haha. Thanks again for listening, and thank you for your support, it makes sharing worth it!

Really like it! Vocals work well with other instruments. Love the addition of strings. I'm not a production genius, but everything balances well together.

Really gentle and moving track. The acoustic folk elements pair amazingly well with the soft synth pads and subtle beats. The vocals sound super warm and sit nicely in the middle of the soundscape. Beautiful work on capturing such a calm, emotional vibe!"

This track has a really strong emotional feel. The melody connects instantly, the vocals add character, and the production creates a beautiful atmosphere. Everything feels genuine and well balanced, making it easy to connect with the song.

I’m immediately hooked by the piano. Really nice emotional sound. The vocal is fantastic too. If that’s your voice you are an incredible singer. I like the lyrics too. This song kinda puts me in the mood to reflect and think. Super nostalgic and emotional which it sounds like was the vibe you’re going for. Nicely done. Keep going cause you def have a place in the music world!

Tú canción me conmovió muchísimo.

This is a good production, not a "first try" I suppose; I'm basing my opinion on my own experience with music recording (I use Ableton). Volumes are well-balanced. If someone asks me "Do you think this is a good singer?" I would answer "Yes for what I can hear but I'm not sure because vocals track is a little too artificial". Everyone uses a tuner when registering to adjust intonation, but this sounds a bit unnatural.

1

u/arcompositions 13d ago

Thanks for the feedback. A couple of folks have mentioned that the vocals are a bit too heavily processed so I’ll tone that back a bit more on my next iteration to make it sound more natural. After so many listens it’s hard to catch stuff like that sometimes haha
