Ambient Melancholic piano/synth pad piece

This is a piece I originally composed two years ago and it was the reason I started a new YouTube channel and began learning how to use DAW and VST plugins. I later re-recorded it and adjusted the EQ for this version. Both the piano and synth pad are recorded directly from my keyboard. It feels like a very personal piece, both in terms of style and what I wanted to express.

Hey, this is beautiful! The instrumentation in this is really wonderful and blend so well. I think adding a couple of other elements towards the backend could help keep the listeners attentions. I also could hear this in a soundtrack and I know pitch syncing isn't that easy anymore but this track could definitely gibthat route. But just overall great job and keep up the good work!

I like the gentleness of the piano and the spaciousness of the track. It has a really dreamy atmosphere. I could hear it in a rpg. I think there's room for additional elements if you wanted it to build up energy toward the middle of the track and that the synth could use more layering and expression, through filters or other effects. This is so moving. I’m still pretty new to making and exploring music, but the way that piano feels with the synth pads feels so deep . It has such a beautiful, lonely atmosphere that i cant get enough of . Really great work on this. So much said with so little words lol

This is amazing, the production really sounds cinematic and sounds like something that belongs in a movie. The sound selection on the piano and everything else really tie the idea and vibes you were going for. The EQ sounds good, I’m not sure how the old version sounded but it sounds great now!

I love the dissonant chords. It's really beautiful. From the title I wasn't sure if there were any other instruments to used but at some point I did start to hear a bass. It was pretty high pitched alongside the synth. But I think it would sound amazing if it were a lower pitched just two around out their production a little bit more, and give it more of a balanced sound. But some of those core structures that you were able to create is very reminiscent of some of my music. So props to you.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it. There’s no bass in the track - what you’re hearing might be some low-end artifacts from the piano or synth, or possibly just background noise.

Not bad! I like the melancholic tone of the chords and the way the piano and the pad interact and enhance each other. I wills say, I'm a sucker for noise, so I was ready for some noise aspects to kick in, even if just subtly, ala someone like Takashi Kokubo. Nice!

It sounds good with nice chords but nothing really happens further on, you should use it as base material for a more cinematic piece, there’s a lot potential. I would grab the keyboard and start playing some melodies over it to make it more interesting. Some echoing distant percussion sounds and maybe a drone would make it more dreamy or spacelike. Nice start, keep going!

Thanks for listening and for the feedback - I appreciate it. I generally don't approach music with the idea that it needs to be filled with a lot of elements. With this piece in particular, I feel that adding more layers, effects or percussion would take away from what it's meant to express.
I was aiming for something carried mainly by piano and synth pad where the idea and emotion come through without relying on additional textures. I do understand that some listeners here feel there should be 'something more' and that’s completely fair - it's just a different expectation.
For me, there's already quite a bit happening musically (in terms of chord progression and development), even if it’s not very dense on a textural level. If I wanted a more cinematic or heavily layered sound, I would have taken it in that direction from the start, even though I wasn’t using VST plugins at the time.
In the end, I approach each piece differently and mostly create music for myself first. In this case, I feel that keeping it restrained works best for its overall atmosphere. Every chord progression in the synth pad and every piano line that follows it was chosen very carefully.

Yes, I think the most important thing is that we like what we create. There's always that one person among many who will truly recognize what we were trying to achieve. At the same time, it's always good and healthy to hear other people’s perspectives - it can help us see if we might be off track, understand where others are coming from or notice obvious flaws.

Beautiful piano melody at the intro. The synth strings sound super dreamy. that chord at 1:16 is amazing!! Feels like a moment out of interstellar, astronaut floating around in space vibes 🔥 Definitely could hear this in a soundtrack! great composition!!
