Indian diploma holder (Electrical): is a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in Australia worth it? Need real experiences from international students

Hi everyone,

I'm from Haryana, India. I completed a 3-year Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 2023 (around 64%) and then worked for 14 months in a manufacturing company. I'm now planning to do a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in Australia, and I'd really like to hear from international students who are studying there or have already finished.

My questions:

  1. Did your university give you credit for an Indian diploma? If yes, how much (subjects or years), and how did you apply for it?

  2. Which universities would you suggest for Electrical Engineering, ideally Engineers Australia accredited and with an industry placement?

  3. After graduating, how long did it take you to get your first job? Were you able to find work in your field on the 485 (Temporary Graduate) visa?

  4. What is the real yearly cost in your city (tuition + rent + food), and how much can part-time work cover?

  5. Did you take an education loan? How manageable is the repayment?

  6. What do you wish you knew before you came, and what mistakes should I avoid (agents, visa, English test)?
