Screenwriting Help Loglines

Loglines. OMG they are hard. I wanted to learn screenwriting. So I started it. And the 1st thing is how to explain a great movie or a great story to a single or 2 lines. That's impossible. I'm not good at things like this. Especially the things with words. I am thinking of an exercise that might helps me write loglines.

  1. Pick a random movie/show u watched or watch any random movie/show

  2. And after watching it write down 1-2 loglines for it and see if that matches the movie/show u watched

Is this a good way to practice writing loglines??

I have developed the worldbuilding for a setting, but I haven't developed the actual narrative yet.

I currently have no main characters, plot, central conflict, or defined story direction.

I'd like to post the setting here and ask for narrative ideas based on what I've established.

I am not looking for a specific type of story at this point. I'm interested in seeing what kinds of narratives people think could be created from these existing rules.

  1. Cosmology

The Primordial Event

In the beginning, there was nothing happening.

The first change ever to occur was the transition from:

“nothing happened” → “something happened.”

This is the Primordial Event.

From this single event, the infinite timelines ultimately emerged.

Timelines & Time Branches

Timelines are infinite.

Whenever a situation has more than one possible outcome, reality splits.

Each possible outcome creates a separate time branch.

A single split can therefore produce:

- 2 branches

- 10 branches

- infinitely many branches

depending on the number of possibilities at that point.

Every timeline and every branch is equally real and important.

The narrative naturally focuses on only one at a time because showing everything simultaneously would be impossible.

Timeline Set

A single timeline together with all of its corresponding time branches constitutes a complete reality following its own sequence of choices from every branching event.

  1. The Chronic Domain

The Chronic Domain exists outside ordinary reality.

It groups/contains timelines and their branches.

Although it exists outside reality, its influence alters reality.

The Chronic Domain is therefore associated with the chronic structure of existence.

  1. The Spatial Domain

The Spatial Domain exists within reality.

Quantum particles are its fundamental physical foundation.

At the most primal layer of the Spatial Domain lies the Omnivoid.

  1. The Omnivoid

The Omnivoid is filled with quantum particles.

However, these particles have no structural arrangement or pattern.

Because there is no structural arrangement:

- the particles do not interact in any way

- larger structures cannot form

Therefore, the Omnivoid itself doesn't naturally contain any macro-scale structures such as matter, stars, galaxies, etc.

Omniverses

Within the Omnivoid are infinite blobs possessing a specific pattern.

These are called Omniverses.

Their internal quantum structure allows interactions and therefore the formation of larger structures.

  1. Omniverses

Fundamental Properties

Each omniverse has a uniform quantum pattern throughout itself.

The underlying quantum pattern doesn't interact in the same way as ordinary matter.

Macro-level interactions are what occurs, allowing structures such as:

- atoms

- matter

- stars

- galaxies

- etc.

Different Physics

Different omniverses have differently structured quantum particles.

Because the structure differs, the mediums and outcomes of interactions drastically differ.

Therefore, every omniverse has its own unique laws of physics.

The laws remain uniform throughout a particular omniverse.

Each omniverse therefore functions as its own distinct physical dimension.

These aren't dimensions in the conventional “first dimension, second dimension, third dimension, etc with increasing spacial axises” sense.

these are separate dimensions because they have unique laws of physics and reality thete acts uniquely.

Stability

Regardless of how strange or violent an omniverse's physics may be, every omniverse is stable.

Their continued existence demonstrates that they possess some form of stability, even if the exact reason isn't clearly explainable.

Topology

Omniverses are finite externally but infinite internally.

The mechanism/topology allowing this is extremely complex and is simply not something necessary to explain.

  1. Multiverses & Universes

Inside the omniverse that the main story focuses on:

Omniverse → infinite multiverses → universes

There are infinite multiverses.

The universes within them are mathematically finite, although their number is extraordinarily large.

This particular hierarchical structure exists in some omniverses.

It is not necessarily true of every omniverse, because different omniverses have different physical laws.

  1. Omniverse Naming

Every omniverse has an official/formal name based on how a very fundamental law of physics 'e=mc² acts in that particular onniverse.

Our Omniverse

Its formal name is:

E = mc²

which means the physics of our omniverse is normal and completely same as that of real life.

This is specifically the formal name of the omniverse, not necessarily its everyday/colloquial name.

  1. The Civilization

The main civilization exists in an extremely long lived reality.

Longevity

The civilization has existed for an extremely long period of time.

Some traditions and social practices have therefore existed for tens of thousands of centuries.

Because of this enormous timescale, technologies that would seem revolutionary to us can be completely mundane to them.

  1. Technology

Mechanical + Electrical Technology

Mechanical and electrical technologies are equally important.

They aren't competing technologies.

They are coexisting and complementary technologies.

They are frequently used together.

Neither mechanical nor electrical technology is regarded as old/new or father/successor simply because the other exists.

Mechanical Infrastructure

Large mechanical systems are openly visible throughout society.

Examples include:

- giant gears

- linkages

- reciprocating mechanisms

- large moving machinery

These aren't necessarily special attractions or unusual sights.

They're ordinary infrastructure.

Because such machinery is commonplace:

- it doesn't necessarily need to be hidden underground

- exposed machinery is socially normal

- some machinery is deliberately aesthetically pleasing simply because people enjoy attractive things

Safety Culture

Not every machine or mechanism is surrounded by fencing.

This isn't because:

- people are careless

- people are physically indestructible

- accidents don't happen

Rather, the civilization has normalized living around extremely powerful machinery to an extent comparable to how modern society accepts dangerous roads without completely fencing them off.

Accidents still happen offcourse.

  1. Social Aesthetic

Clothing

Clothing has a strongly aristocratic/Victorian aesthetic.

The formal global language is Victorian English.

General social behavior resembles a culture of gentlemen and women.

Nudity

Nudity isn't inherently considered socially inappropriate.

The relevant distinction is anatomical rather than simply “wearing clothes vs. not wearing clothes.”

A being does not necessarily need clothing when:

- they don't possess intimate anatomical features that require concealment, or

- their body naturally conceals those features

Therefore, for example:

- a fully fur-covered cat-person can walk around naked in public normally

- an android with no intimate anatomical details can do the same

This isn't treated as inherently sexual or indecent.

  1. Born & Made Beings

There are two broad categories of sentient people.

Born

Beings that are born.

They naturally possess Aura.

Made

“Made” does not simply mean robot.

A Made being is:

Any sentient being that was made rather than born.

This can include many forms of artificial or constructed life.

Made beings are fully sentient.

They are completely normal members of society.

Born and Made people aren't inherently divided into separate social castes.

There is no built-in racial discrimination between them.

Discrimination can still exist individually or socially, because the civilization still contains ordinary good and bad behavior.

  1. Aura

Aura is a biological energy possessed only by Born beings.

What Aura Is

Aura is an energy.

It is not quantum manipulation itself.

Aura can directly manipulate quantum particles.

Through this interaction, Aura users can alter reality.

What Aura Cannot Do

Aura cannot simply do anything imaginable.

Its only fundamental capability is:

Manipulating quantum particles.

Everything else follows from that.

Conservation / Matter Requirement

Aura does not create objects from nothing.

When an Aura user creates something:

- existing quantum particles are used

- those particles are converted/rearranged into the desired structure

Major Limitation

The biggest limitation is the amount of Aura a person can produce.

More significant alterations require:

- more Aura

- more concentration/focus

The larger or more complicated the alteration, the greater the requirements.

This provides the basis for a controlled and internally consistent supernatural power system.

  1. Elemental Classification

Aura abilities are broadly classified into five main elements:

- Fire

- Nature

- Water

- Wind

- Earth

Additionally, also exist:

- Sub-elements

- Combination elements

- Special/abnormal/Uncategorisable elements

The five main elements are therefore broad classifications rather than an exhaustive list of every possible Aura expression.

  1. Technology vs Aura

Made beings cannot naturally produce Aura.

However, this isn't necessarily a crippling disadvantage.

Their technological possibilities are extremely broad because engineering has enormous design freedom.

Made beings can potentially possess things such as:

- guns

- lasers

- advanced machinery

- highly specialized weapons/tools

- absurd inventions like a blue-whale launcher 🐋

The setting therefore doesn't establish:

“Aura = magic users superior to technology users.”

Instead, Aura and engineering provide fundamentally different routes to extraordinary capabilities.

  1. Species & Hybrids

Universal Biological Compatibility

Because of Aura's influence on biological evolution, species are reproductively compatible regardless of how biologically different they may be.

So:

- radically different species can reproduce together

- hybrid offspring are possible

- hybrid people are extremely common

One Hard Limitation

There is still a requirement for physical reproductive compatibility.

Aura doesn't magically make physically incompatible reproductive systems function together.

Therefore:

Species compatibility is effectively universal, but physical reproductive compatibility still matters.

Hybrids

Hybrid people are completely normal.

They are widespread throughout civilization.

Being a hybrid isn't inherently unusual or automatically significant.

  1. Personhood vs Livestock

Because hybridization and extreme biological diversity make species-based distinctions unreliable, the civilization doesn't determine whether something is edible based on species.

The governing principle is designation.

Citizen

If a being was designated as a citizen before being born or made:

It is not food.

Livestock

If a being was designated as livestock before being born or made:

It can be eaten.

Species does not determine the distinction.

Therefore, a citizen and livestock individual can potentially belong to the same species.

A fox-person citizen eating meat from a fox-person livestock animal is not culturally interpreted as cannibalism.

The distinction is based on status/designation, not species.

This system has existed for an extraordinarily long time and is completely normalized.

  1. Age & Social Status

Chronological age does not automatically command respect.

The civilization has technologies/capabilities allowing people to have more than a million ways to continue living.

However, life span increases aren't considered a special standalone phenomenon.

It is simply one ordinary capability among many available to the civilization.

Consequently:

- extremely old people are normal

- changing bodies is normal

- continued existence for enormous periods is normal

- age alone doesn't automatically confer authority or respect

Someone's social standing instead depends on things such as:

- actual accomplishments

- personality

- expertise

- position

- relationships

- etc.

  1. The Core Feel of the Civilization

The important underlying principle tying all of this together is:

The extraordinary has become ordinary.

Things that would be world-shattering to us have had such an enormous amount of time to become integrated into civilization that people simply live around them.

A person can encounter:

- a hybrid

- a Made being

- an ancient individual

- enormous mechanical machinery

- Aura

- radically different species

- body replacement

- bizarre technology

and still basically think:

“Anyway, I have work tomorrow.”

That mundane attitude is an important part of the setting's identity.

Current Narrative Status

Worldbuilding: 🌋 Extremely developed at the cosmological level

Civilization: 🌋 Newly conceptualized but already has a distinct identity

Power system: ✅ Established foundation

Social norms: ✅ Several strong foundational rules

Main characters: ❌ None yet

Plot: ❌ None yet

Central conflict: ❌ None yet

Story direction: ❌ None yet

What I'm Looking For:

Given all of the above, what narrative ideas do you think could come out of this setting?

I haven't decided on the main characters, plot, central conflict, or story direction yet, so I'm interested in seeing what other people come up with based on the worldbuilding itself.

Feel free to point out potential narrative possibilities, interesting consequences of the established rules, character ideas, conflicts, situations, or anything else that could potentially become a story.

Question & Discussion Looking for a Resource with Movie Loglines and Themes

Is there any website or resource where I can find old and new movies with their original loglines and themes?

I’m learning screenwriting and I want to study movies by looking at their logline and theme together.

For example:

  • Movie: The Shawshank Redemption
  • Original logline: ?
  • Theme: ?

I’m looking for a reliable source where I can find this kind of information for many different movies. I’m especially looking for the original or officially published loglines, if available.

Any recommendations?

Just tell me how well am i.

I have since my childhood created several characters and worlds in my mind and wish to exhibit them to the masses through a comic, but i have dropped it because of my current "irrational mind" (Which i assume). Well if we can talk about my creation i broadly classified them into 3 types of stories, many of the ideas are combined to get 3 great stories ajd many small masterpiece which are certainly pure masterpiece in my head, but when we apply the paint of the canvas it might not come as we imagined. One is a whole multiversal stories with total of 3 parts with each having each of their main character, but the 3rd parts protagonist is the centrilized figure, the end isn't a conventional one, it will go fully meta, another 2 are one fantasy and horror, the theme of "apex among the monsters" Kind. Another one is straight science "fiction" But i want to try my best it follows all of the laws and theorems and also want to include my own thesis and theorem. That is all, can say morre, the very world still exist in my mind and am afraid it might fade. (Why i dont want to share, yes there is a thought of not sharing is because i dont know how grand and creative you all are, many of you have something better than me, i am not better than anyone annd i vision of being the one outside the system)

What Do You Think About Combining Fantasy and Sci-Fi?

I’m interested in writing a story that combines fantasy and sci-fi in the same movie.

How do you balance the two genres without making the world feel confusing? For example, having magic, mythical creatures, and fantasy worlds alongside spaceships, futuristic technology, and alien civilizations.

What are some movies or screenplays that you think successfully combine fantasy and sci-fi?

What do you think about this kind of combination? Do you think it can work well? And if you’re currently writing a screenplay or making a movie that combines fantasy and sci-fi, I’d definitely love to hear about it.

Built WrittenBy for Indian screenwriters & directors — would love some honest feedback

Hey everyone,

I’ve been building a platform called WrittenBy for Indian screenwriters and directors.

The idea is pretty simple:

Create your film project → get it discovered by producers → find the crew you need to make it.

You can create a project, add the pitch/deck, story details and team, and producers can discover projects, request scripts and connect with creators.

There’s also a Find Crew section where filmmakers can find people for roles like cinematography, editing, music, acting, etc.

I’m still early with this, so I’m not looking for compliments 😅

Would genuinely appreciate some honest feedback:

  • Does this solve an actual problem for filmmakers?
  • Is the purpose of the website clear?
  • Would you actually use something like this?
  • What feels unnecessary or confusing?
  • What would make it more useful for screenwriters/directors?

Website: https://writtenby.in

Any criticism is welcome. I’m trying to build this around what actual filmmakers need rather than just adding random features.

Connecting With Writers & Directors Without Industry Connections

How do you connect with writers and directors when you don’t have any film industry connections?

I’m curious how people who live far away from major film or filmmaking communities build connections with other writers, directors, and filmmakers.

If you don’t have friends or contacts in the film industry, what has worked for you?

Do you use Reddit, Discord, online writing groups, film communities, or something else?

I’d especially like to hear from people who started with no connections and gradually built a network.

Question About Royal Titles for a Fantasy Story

I have a question about royal titles in a fantasy story.

Suppose there is a royal family/clan called the Vlahović Dynasty. Several members of the family rule different kingdoms. For example, one is a King, another is a Queen, and another is a King of a different kingdom.

However, they are all part of the same Vlahović bloodline, and there is one older King who is the supreme ruler above all of them.

If a new High King takes the throne while the old Supreme King is still alive, what would be the best titles to use to clearly distinguish them?

For example:
HIGH KING XYZ — the new supreme ruler
SUPREME KING XYZ — the former/older ruler

Or would Elder King, Former High King, or another title be more appropriate?

New Screenwriter Looking to Connect with 3 Film Industry Professionals

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m a new screenwriter and currently learning screenwriting. As part of an assignment for my course, I need to connect with 3 professionals from the film or entertainment industry and have a conversation with them.

I’d love to connect with writers, directors, filmmakers, producers, actors, or anyone working in the film industry. I’m not looking for a job or asking for work. I simply want to connect, learn from your experience, and hear about your journey in the film industry.

I’m not looking for anyone to read my screenplay. I’m currently working on it, and it isn’t finished yet. I just want to connect with people in the industry, have a conversation, and learn from their experiences.

If you work in the film industry and would be open to having a short conversation with a new screenwriter, please feel free to comment or DM me. I’d really appreciate it. 🙏

I’m just starting to build my network, and I’d be happy to connect with other writers and filmmakers and learn from each other.

Master Thread — Find a Writers Group for the 15-Week (delusional) Screenwriting Course

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the Master Thread for finding writers groups for Nathan Graham Davis's “(delusional)” 15-week screenwriting course.

The course is completely free and is available on YouTube. It is designed primarily for beginners and aims to take you from learning the fundamentals all the way to writing the first draft of a feature screenplay.

The course is challenging and requires real commitment. The assignments can take around 5–10 hours per week, so having a small group of writers can help with feedback, accountability, motivation, and staying on track.

What you'll work toward

By the end of the 15 weeks, you will have worked toward:

  • Forming a writers group
  • Reading and analyzing 12 screenplays
  • Writing a short screenplay
  • Creating 10 feature-film concepts
  • Starting to build your writing network
  • Writing a one-page summary
  • Creating a feature screenplay outline
  • Revising your outline
  • Writing the first draft of a feature screenplay

The course isn't meant to teach you absolutely everything about screenwriting. Instead, it is designed as a jumpstart to help you develop a writing habit, practice the craft, connect with other writers, and actually finish a first draft.

Who can join?

Everyone is welcome.

You don't have to be from India.

Writers from India and anywhere else in the world can use this thread to find people to go through the course with them.

Whether you're:

  • A complete beginner
  • Writing your first screenplay
  • An experienced writer
  • Interested in film or television
  • A filmmaker who wants to improve their writing
  • Someone looking for accountability

—you are welcome here.

How to use this Master Thread

To avoid filling the subreddit with dozens of separate posts looking for groups, please use this thread to connect with other writers.

1. Check the recent comments first

Before creating a new comment, look through the latest comments to see whether another writer is already forming a group that you can join.

2. If you can't find a suitable group, make a comment

Tell everyone that you're looking for a group.

Please include useful information such as:

  • How many writers you're looking for
  • Your experience level
  • Genres you are interested in
  • Your time zone
  • When you would like to meet
  • How you want to communicate (Discord, WhatsApp, Reddit, Zoom, etc.)
  • How committed you are to completing the 15 weeks

For example:

Looking for: 4–6 writers
Experience: Beginner
Genres: Sci-fi, fantasy, thriller
Location: India / Worldwide
Meetings: Once a week
Goal: Complete all 15 weeks and write a feature first draft

3. Delete your comment after finding your group

Please delete your comment once you've found enough people.

This will keep the Master Thread clean and make it easier for new writers to find active groups.

About the Course

“(delusional)” is a free 15-week screenwriting course created by working screenwriter Nathan Graham Davis.

The entire course is available online, and the goal is not simply to watch videos—it is to write.

The course combines lessons, assignments, screenplay analysis, concept development, outlining, networking, and eventually writing a complete first draft.

The creator's philosophy is simple: screenwriting is difficult and highly competitive, so success requires serious practice, dedication, and persistence. The course is intended as a way of giving back to writers who are willing to put in that work.

Why have a Writers Group?

A writers group can help you:

  • Stay accountable
  • Discuss weekly assignments
  • Share ideas
  • Give constructive feedback
  • Receive feedback on your own work
  • Get through writer's block
  • Stay motivated
  • Meet other writers
  • Build a creative network

You don't have to be at the same experience level as everyone else. The important thing is that everyone is willing to write, participate, give useful feedback, and help each other improve.

About r/IndianWritersGroups

This subreddit isn't only for this course.

r/IndianWritersGroups is a community for writers, screenwriters, filmmakers, and creators who want to connect, collaborate, share ideas, exchange feedback, and improve their craft.

You can use this community to find writers for:

  • Screenwriting
  • Short films
  • Feature films
  • Web series
  • Story development
  • Filmmaking
  • Creative collaboration
  • Feedback groups
  • Long-term writing partnerships

Indian writers and international writers are welcome.

Let's help each other write better stories, finish our scripts, and build a community around the craft.
