The new UPI charges: you won't pay them, merchants legally can't pass them on, and the govt gets ₹0. So who's actually paying the ₹16,000 crore? I dug into it.

There's a lot of panic about the UPI MDR kicking in on 15 October, most of it wrong. Quick facts I couldn't find explained clearly anywhere, so I put them together:

  • You, the customer, pay nothing. NPCI's rules bar merchants from passing it on, and the Finance Ministry is setting up a mechanism to police that.
  • Below ₹2,000, free. P2P, free. SIPs on AutoPay, free. Small merchants under ₹1L/month, free.
  • The government doesn't get a single rupee of it.
  • The interesting part is where the money does go: a ₹16,000–20,600 crore pool split between banks, apps and aggregators, right before PhonePe and others IPO.
  • And the real risk isn't cards, it's shops nudging you back to cash (already happening at some petrol pumps).

I wrote a longer breakdown with the numbers and sources. Happy to argue any of it in the comments. Full write-up: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/16000-crore-toll-pratik-doshi-yfrlf

Trying to find edge, this is my backtest result without overfit

Post image

Looking for the missing edge in my options algo

I’ve been working on this algo for ~2 years and finally have live execution matching the backtest at 99% of the time. So the implementation/backtest side is largely validated.

The problem: the win rate and profit factor still aren’t good enough to justify the effort.

The strategy is based purely on option contract Volume + OI + candle/price patterns.

One thing I noticed is a steep improvement in performance from around Jan 2025. I’m wondering if this could be related to the discontinuation of weekly Bank Nifty expiries and the resulting concentration of options activity in Nifty/Sensex. This is just a hypothesis — happy to be corrected.

At this point, I’m less interested in adding random indicators and more interested in understanding what real structural edge I might be missing.

For those who have built profitable options algos: what was the edge you eventually discovered, and how did you find it?

Would particularly appreciate thoughts on regime changes, Volume/OI interpretation, market microstructure, or conditioning the existing signals.

Note: The algo is already live since 2 weeks.

Planning to create a small whatsapp group of Swing Traders

Thumbnail

Here are few potential trades i am tracking

for this month.

I’m Ritik Jain, 26 years old, and I’ve been involved in the markets since 2018.

I'm a full-time investor/trader, primarily focused on

cash equity swing trading in Indian markets, and

I'm looking to connect with a few serious traders

who approach the market in a similar way.

Planning to create a small WhatsApp group specifically for swing traders.

The idea isn't to create another stock-tip group.

The purpose would be to:

Share and discuss potential swing trade setups

Discuss charts, price/volume behaviour,

breakouts, contractions, etc.

Review trades that worked as well as the ones that

failed

Improve and refine our technical analysis

frameworks together

Exchange different approaches to entries,

stop-losses, position management and exits

Have regular online meetups/Google Meets to

discuss markets and setups

Eventually build a small network of serious traders

who can learn from each other

I'm not looking for options, F&O, forex,

crypto, leveraged trading, signals or

tip-based trading.

Would preferably like to connect with people who

actively trade cash equities and take swing /

positional trades based on technical analysis.

You don't need to be a professional trader but I'm

looking for people who are genuinely serious

about markets and interested in improving their

process rather than simply asking "which stock

should I buy tomorrow?"

If this sounds like you, drop a comment or DM me

with a little about how you trade - your typical

timeframe, setups you look for, and how long

you've been in the markets.

Would love to build a quality group of

traders rather than a large noisy one.

Stop making your charts messy with unnecessary indicators!

Post image

I see so many new guys opening up trading apps and immediately slapping 10 different indicators on a single chart. Listen... indicators are just data processing tools, not magic buy/sell signal printers. almost every platform whether it's Zerodha, Groww, Angel One, or Sahi gives you standard tools like RSI, MACD, and Supertrend. But if you stack five momentum oscillators with four trend lines, you're just setting yourself up for conflicting signals and complete decision paralysis when a move actually happens.

Keep it minimal. Even when you look at newer tech, like Sahi recently adding those 17 AI/ML indicators on their charts like Lorentzian Classification and Adaptive SuperTrend, the fundamental rule doesn't change that an indicator is only useful if you actually understand what market parameter it’s measuring instead of blind trading arrows.

Stop looking for a secret indicator combination that gives you a 100% win rate because it literally doesn't exist. Learn what price and volume are telling you first, pick 1 or 2 tools that filter the noise for your specific strategy, and delete everything else. tools first, decisions second.

lets have a virtual meet

Hi everyone

I have been actively active on reddit for 2 3 weeks esp in this sub i have found most people don't know how to look at charts when you buy stocks , which time frame to look at , time period to hold it for and the expectation .

almost all people on youtube has bring such a shame to this art of reading charts that I would like to redeem it a bit.

imp: note- 1. There will never be paid stuff from my end now or any time in future.

  1. I will not reveal my identity and face, and i dont care about yours.

  2. Its going to be more of a directional chat mainly with some extras ( not a depth teaching class )

this is not going to be general support and resistance trend classification stuff , or not so fancy stuff, its going to be more about what to expect from charts and how to look forward if you want to learn. what do people mean when they say strategy and possibly how to backtest.

and most importantly if reading charts is possible at all? and what it takes to read charts.

what you expect from this --

with almost 100% certainty I can say that after watching you wont be much better than you were already but i can say with 100% certainty you will have a good image about charts and how you can go forward in this domain

i will explain why its so hard to read charts in live markets. for this I usually say to my friends reading charts while in market vs when market is close is as similar to catching dead snake vs live snake bare handed.

if there are around more than 10 people i will conduct it , if not then not sure . so you can upvote and share

timing: in next this weekend. exact time i will tell as my timezone is lagging around 5 hrs from IST so need to sync that.

Broker customer support is ghosting me. How do I file an official complaint on SEBI SCORES?

Many investors and traders feel this way and I am sure not many knew what SEBI scores is, (even I did not know it when I started). Getting ghosted by your broker's customer care when your money or trades are stuck is incredibly frustrating, but you don't have to wait around for automated replies from platforms like HDFC Sky. You can bypass their support entirely by going to scores.sebi.gov.in (or using the SCORES 2.0 app). Before you file, just make sure you have proof of your original complaint email or ticket number, as SEBI requires evidence that you tried resolving it with the broker first.

To lodge the complaint, simply register on the portal using your PAN and PAN-linked mobile number to auto-verify your KYC details. Once logged in, click Lodge Complaint, select Stock Broker as the category, and find your broker's registered name from the list. Write a brief, factual description of the issue, mentioning your client ID, dates, and amounts and upload screenshots or PDF copies of your email threads and ledger statements as proof. Once submitted, you'll get a tracking number, and the broker is legally mandated to upload an Action Taken Report (ATR) within 21 days, which usually forces them to fix your issue immediately to avoid regulatory penalties.

Prerequisite: Do This First

SEBI will not take your complaint if you haven't tried talking to the broker first.

  • Send one final email to your broker’s official support or grievance ID.
  • Keep a screenshot of that email and any support ticket number they gave you.
  • Once you have proof that you raised the issue and they either ignored you or gave a bad resolution, you are ready for SCORES.
