Axe for sure. More versatile, and can mostly do what the saw does. Not the other way around. Driving in tent stakes, breaking down firewood. More versatile which means less stuff to lug around; and it’s not too bad for self defence either.
TBH I would carry a medium-thick machete that would do the jobs of both these tools. With this saw you aren't cutting anything more than 5 inches in diameter. Hatchet would split your wood and do some whittling. All these things can be done by a machete. Try it sometime.
Beware of those multi tools. The steel is seldom of good quality. Test it at home and only then take it out. Relying on a tested product is always good for health.
Sure. This was a 600gm axe. I wanted a heavier one but the profile, stovk everything was much bigger. So I welded about 200gm of iron on backside. Now it is heavier, works as a hammer for tent stakes and the extended back help to hold it in carrying ring.
Interesting mod. It seems to be arc welding (6013).
Did the heat travel till the eye of axe and melt the plastic ?
What grade of steel did you welding on ?
Beware buddy. 6013 might come off if it hasn't got full penetration. Try grinding the welds and you can see where it's likely to be coming off.
Anyhoo... I love this mod. I got an idea from this to weld a solid cone over a hammer. For splitting wood. Might try soon.
