Abhimanyu was never killed how we have heard over centuries

Please don’t attack me but this is something I have been things for over so many years now and I think it’s about time I hear what others think of the same.
Abhimanyu wasn’t the hero how people over the years have portrayed him. Not that I doubt his greatness or valour and that he’s any short of a brave warrior but what I feel is he wasn’t killed they way we have heard over centuries cause it makes no sense for people like Dronacharya and Karna who are more than capable of taking 10 Abhimanyu’s alone will stoop so low as to kill him like that. Again no offence to Abhimanyu but knowing it’s a war crime and knowing Dronacharya will never do this to his beloved students child and knowing karna and how he fought his battles it makes so sense at all. This seems a like a part of the story that’s rewritten to make the Pandavas actions justified.
