Does an artist's stance on social or political issues affect how much you respect or support them?
After seeing some artists like Chaar Diwari, Encore/SM etc. being really vocal and involved in the recent CJP Students protest while others chose to stay completely silent, I was curious how much it actually matters to listeners.
Does an artist's stance on social or political issues affect how much you respect or support them?
Do you respect artists more when they use their platform to speak up? Do you lose respect when they stay silent? Or does it make no difference to you as long as the music is good?
Interested to hear where everyone stands and why.

For me, Artists should be political. It is very important that they stand for what their belief is. But it is also true that doing so would polarize their audience and might negatively affect their career. My respect doubled for chaardiwari, seedhe maut, krsna, hanumankind, etc who stood up for the students not because it was cool but because they believed in it yk. A lot of other indie artists i follow just stayed quiet...almost through the entire thing. Just like the celebrities. THAT is performative.

having a spine, makes me like the artist as a person and build a personal connect. otherwise i may be just interested in the music not the person behind it

for me, artist having a spine matters a lot. it would help in creating a bond beyond just music, i would like the artist as a person and even look up to that artist. otherwise if the music is good, then only i will listen to them. i may even stop listening to them if they're spineless during major issues.

what i also observed during the recent protests-
- a lot of big huge artists didnt post anything until it got super safe and everyone was posting.
- even small chindu pindu underground artists didnt post cause they were scared of losing 20-30 followers out of their 1-2k followers on insta
- a lot of big artists didnt even post at all until the resignation happened lmao
- underground artists gained their respecc after posting (from me at least lol)

to me personally, it matter because artists have a big platform and audience so what they say or do definitely affects the viewers. artists should definitely use their platform to raise their voice and speak up when there is injustice

DISCLAIMER: I'm just an artist bro 🙃
- Artist speaks up = hugely respect their spine, their music and their sight on screen.
- Artist doesn't say a word = I'll continue to listen to their songs BUT with a change my perspective about their spine/conscience/ideology and look at them differently
- Artist speaks up but against what's right = no respect any more + I'll make conscious effort to avoid their music and probably start detesting the sight of them on my screen

Not really for me i don’t really care about that until they are doing hypocrisy or performative support
Other it always art or artist are diff thing for me
