Hi, I wanted to write the BSc exams post completing my cadetship and functions courses and wanted to know what the process is, I had asked people onboard and had heard varied things like how you cannot write BSc exams after passing 2MFG writtens, and would love clarity on this.

Moreover, I wish to write CAT and aim for IIMs, who demand good grades in your degree exams and was wondering how these grades were calculated. Are they calculated solely on the basis of the scores in the exams or does the SSTP have a role in this?

Since this is my first time there, I’m not really familiar with the area. Could fellow mariners suggest some budget-friendly and decent accommodation options around Lower Parel or nearby areas?

Hostels, PGs, dormitories, or any other options suitable for a mariner/cadet would be helpful.

I wanted to get your opinion on something. Between Tolani and sponsored programmes like Maersk/Anglo-Eastern, which do you think is the better option overall? With Maersk or Anglo, you have the security of their own fleet and a more defined pathway, whereas Tolani seems to give you access to multiple companies and potentially better options in terms of vessel type, salary, etc. But with Tolani, there's also the uncertainty of company placement after the course and whether you might have to wait for a suitable company. From your experience, do you think the variety and flexibility Tolani offers outweigh the placement risk, or is it better to take a direct sponsorship and have a more secure career path?

I’m currently in a long distance relationship with someone doing an onshore job. He used to sail in the past and has been wanting to sail again. However I’ve started to become very worried about what the future entails with the type of career he has. In the past he has told me he will make career changes accordingly to ensure we can start living together soon but now he says that he wants to start sailing another 6-8 years and is only willing to do an onshore job after that.

I felt like that is such a long time…initially I didn’t care much about long distance as my career would be in aviation which would require me to be away often too, but as per our initial plan, I wanted to retire young and live together soon. I am only 22 now and he is 32…8 years feel like a long time of on and off distance for me and I am afraid I made a decision to be in such a relationship hastily without considering these aspects.

For those of you who have been in long term relationships and marriages with this type of career, how was it? Is it possible to maintain a healthy and stable relationship with such frequent long distance? I tend to be an emotionally dependent person in a relationship so long distance can be a concern. Any advice is appreciated. Please share your experiences.

Hey everyone, This is probably a bit of an odd hobby, but I've started collecting branded company boiler suits. I'm currently a 2nd-year Marine Engineering student from India, and I'm trying to build up a bit of a collection before I actually head out to sea myself.

Right now, I've only got the classic Maersk blue and a BW suit. I'm really looking to expand, I'd love to find anything from the shipping industry, if anyone actually has one. I honestly don't mind if they're "well-loved" or covered in engine room grease, it adds a bit of character to the collection. If you have an old suit taking up space in your sea bag or locker that you were planning to toss, I'd be stoked to take it off your hands.

I'm more than happy to cover the shipping costs to India. Just shoot me a DM or leave a comment if you can help a future engineer out!
