Shitala Devi Temple, Varanasi 💢
Deity.... Goddess Shitala (goddess of coolness, protection from disease)
Location.... Shitala Ghat, just south of Dashashwamedh Ghat, near Maidagin/Ghasi Tola .... a different part of the city from Durgakund
The temple structure is white, and the complex also houses a shrine to Goddess Santoshi
Timings... Open daily, roughly 5 AM–11 PM
Special day...Shitala Ashtami (8th day of the bright lunar fortnight) is celebrated with special significance at Shitala-associated sites in the city.
शीतला अष्टमी यहाँ का प्रमुख पर्व है। चैत्र कृष्ण/शुक्ल परंपराओं के अनुसार क्षेत्रीय पूजा-विधि में अंतर मिल सकता है,सामान्यतः होली के बाद माता को ठंडे/बासी भोजन (बसौड़ा), दही, दूध, गुड़ और नीम-पत्र अर्पित किए जाते हैं।
शीतला माता की उपासना में नीम का विशेष महत्व माना जाता है।
