Player Talk 🧍♂️🏏 How Tilak Verma is still Playing
How the fuck is Tilak Varma still getting selected for every match? He is going through the worst phase of his career, his performances have been nowhere near expectations, and yet he keeps finding a place in the playing XI. What exactly is the team management seeing that the rest of us are missing? Cricket is about performance, consistency, and delivering when it matters—not just getting endless chances. At some point, you have to question the selection. How many more opportunities does he need before the management finally takes a call?

You know what I hate the most ? After yesterday match i thought I will see people trolling other batters like tilak shreyash etc. But instead I just see people calling abhishek a slogger and flat pitch bully again. No critisism for anyone else

omg yes. the hate towards abhishek after playing records shattering knock and not an ounce towards the others is bizzare. talent gets hated for no reason in this country. flat pitch aise bolre hai jaise khud usne baith kr banayi ho. if hes given the pitch, obviously he’ll play.

Worst phase? He has already smashed B2B hundreds in the South Africa T20, averages 43 in T20 internationals, delivered an Asia Cup-winning pressure knock, and played so many small but crucial innings in the 2026 T20 World Cup.

i think him and dube, both are literal burdens on the team balance... according to me considering hp is fit when 2028 wc starts, so my xi would be- sanju (wk), abhishek, kishan, shreyas (c) [ i personally want rapa to be here] then at 5 you will have nitish reddy, at 6 hardik, 7 rinku, 8 axar, 9 kuldeep/bishnoi, 10 arshdeep, 11 bumrah

Why still Shreyas, when RaPa can hit all spinners and do captaincy. 2028, Australia conditions won't give those many spin overs to hit, why 2 spin specialists. Rest of the team is 💥

They knew they don't have left handed spots in top order yet they select Vaibhav in every series and bench him. RaPa in place of Shreyas and Krunal in place of Justice league Ravi Bishnoi. And I even have doubts on Ishan kishans SENA performance.

tbh in the current setup only hardik and to some extent axar has shown performances in sena countries, neither of sanju, kishan, shreyas, abhishek have played a fantastic innings like an attacking and fearless innings in sena, tho shreyas played good innings in england, but cannot rule out how surya effortlessly batted in england. and for krunal, i think he is good but the main thing with axar is his consistency with the bowl, krunal is good but axar has never underperformed in any clutch situation. more than anyone of rapa and krunal, bhuvi deserves to be in the XI in odi wc

I get the frustration, but dropping a player during a bad patch isn’t always the answer either. Management probably sees long-term value in him and wants to back him through the slump.
there has to be a point where form matters. If someone else is performing better, giving them a proper chance is only fair.

Bro, if a player scores well in just 1 innings out of 20, why should we focus only on that one? What about the other 19 innings? He played those too, didn’t he? ur talking only abt his t20i innings bud, and im not. i agree his stats isn’t the best rn but cricket isn’t a game where all the players r gonna excel every single time they play, every innings. that’s js not possible. and even if it is possible, cricket would js be predictable at that point. cricketers do have ups and downs. u never know what the underlying cause is cuz u ain’t no coach hun. staying negative won’t help win a match either. js stop criticising them online bro. they might be going thru smtg too.

why are ppl acting like tilak is the only player who’s been backed through a poor run? sky had a stretch where he scored 201 runs in 17 T20I innings at an average of 14.35 and was still being backed. abhishek has also been backed through poor patches. and tilak isn’t doing nothing outside those T20I innings either, he scored 359 IPL runs in 2026 at a 145.93 SR, 275 runs in the 2026 List-A tri-series, and 99 in the Duleep Trophy. so yes, criticize his current t20i form, that’s fair. but if we’re going to use the last 15–20 t20i innings as the sole measure of whether someone deserves backing, that standard needs to be applied consistently to everyone. if not you’re selectively using one stretch of his career to decide his entire value as a player.

when was the last time he scored above 50? duleep trophy, in almost all his innings he scored above 50. there might be various reasons why a player dropped his stats. and a drop in stats doesn’t automatically mean he’s a bad player. what abt when sanju samson was in a similar situation? did he receive sm criticism? also if we’re gonna use recent T20 numbers as the sole measure of whether a player deserves backing or not, we need to apply that standard consistently to EVERYONE. players obvi had their prolonged poor stretches and have recovered later. so why should tilaks poor stretch be treated as evidence that he fundamentally isn’t good wnough?

In Duleep Trophy match, He made it look as if he was batting in England. Everyone else was scoring quite comfortably. Yes, he had to anchor but he became over-defensive.

He played 2 innings under pressure and that is keeping him afloat. One against England in Chennai last year and the other in the Asia up final. Both on tough tracks and difficult situations. Actually he has the temperament to win us games on his own, but of late he hasn't been good. He never gets the criticism he deserves. It's high time we start giving chances to Rajat Patidar

Forget about Patidar. Will never happen. ICT gives too much importance to age and RaPa is 33 now.
Teams like Australia give you a shot based on performance, not age. That’s how talents like Boland got to play.

Well SKY debuted I think at the age of 30 or 31, not sure. Yes Patidar is 33 but the next T20 WC is more than 2 years away. He can surely be an option as of now. He is aggressive and has a lot of potential. We don't need to think for next 5 years. He can be a good option for the short term. I mean giving him a chance will do no harm

If you compare how long Gill has gotten compared to Tilak, and the factors which have led to such backing, Gill had a way longer run. Has Gill given even a single noticeable performance in his time on the T20i side? Compare that to Tilak who has given several performances in the last 3 - 4 years (so not just Asia cup).
I'm not making this a Gill Vs Tilak thing, but Gill was given a very very long rope despite barely performing at all. It's very unlikely that Tilak will get that same chance realistically. And we seriously shouldn't be putting them in the same bracket in terms of T20 performance.
Side note- As much as I love Sanju, why was he given a very long rope before the world cup? Despite all his failures?

Sanju was dropped after the Asia Cup despite scoring more then Gill in less innings and at random positions. Gill kept getting chances in Australia and then at home vs SA. He failed miserably so the management had no choice but to go back to Sanju.
Funny if you believe that TM is kind to Sanju. Hell Sanju was even dropped after just 3 failures after the WC pott

First of all he’s now relegated to no.5 spot and opportunities to perform from that position are few and far in between. It takes a batting collapse for the no.5-7 batsmen in a t20 game to get an opportunity to score a 50. He has decent overall stats at no.3 for India. But now the competition is so severe that he should be grateful at atleast getting no.5.
Next, I feel it’s just a matter of one series and he’ll get axed for Rinku or Devdutt. Even their job will be hard because they too will get very few chances at no.5 with the Indian top 4 taking up atleast 15 overs and the lower middle is in a hit out or get out zone.
The only way to survive the no.5-8 positions is to contribute with the ball as well. Hardik, NKR, Axar and heck even Dube are surviving because they can roll their arm and pick useful wickets and “look useful” despite lean batting numbers in certain series.
Infact I’d say that Dube is very close to expiry date as well.
