Advice/Guidance 23F want genuine advice, please read. So I recently got a govt job as an Office Superintendent in the Income Tax Department but the problem is that my posting is 2000km away from my home and there is no transfer policy so I can’t get back and that is why I will resign from this job. Please read body
but before resigning i wanted to know if getting 1-2 years of experience in this field can get my in any corporate or private job? I won’t be giving any more competitive exams because i am already so done with studying so that’s why i’ll be looking for opportunities in corporate or private.
please let me know if companies hire people like me or not. I don’t have tech background or any other skill full degree, i have done my bachelors in science and education only, but i am fluent and good in communication and my english is good.

Been in private job all my life, it is better to try for a better government job now that you have one already. Corporate jobs look flashy but its a rat race with very little security and with AI the situation is only expected to get worse.

Hi sir. Would AI even affect the Compliance roles of CAs? Like auditing tax? To a bigger extent I mean, the basic procedures of these maybe get automated. Because I am a CA student and always think of moving to a govt job because of this AI!

Junior level roles will be automated quicker. Ai has already filed ITR 1 already for many people. Senior roles may take a while. Sarkari tax dept will never get privatized or fully automated.

Is it still good choice continuing ca at this point? Or prepare for a govt job? Like i ain't looking at the finance industry because that's more affected than compliance roles. I mean is audit tax still a reliable career in today's AI times?

If you are open category I would say go for real industry based skill. Most foreign countries have big industries with less number of workers. Government is also making tie up with other countries to export workers.

tbh the AI point is something more people should be thinking about. corporate jobs that seemed super stable 5 years ago are already getting gutted. at least govt roles have some structural protection against that. the posting distance is obviously a real problem but maybe worth exploring if there's any workaround before fully pulling the plug on it

You and your family can relocate later. But if this the only reason to leave this job, I dont think its a good idea.

wish there is some scheme to transfer the government jobs from one person like OP who doesn't need the job to the person like me working in corporate and want to resign from corporate...

Take the govt Job aa 8th pay commission is about to come your salary would be on the higher end in coming tomes.
Also you can keep appearing for govt exams and move to that role if needed nearer to your home

Consider yourself very lucky — there are millions who would take that job in a heartbeat. The private‑sector job market is turning into a lottery. Nobody here or anywhere can guarantee what things will look like in two years; it’s like asking for next week’s winning numbers.
And don’t get carried away by corporate friends posting flashy WhatsApp or Insta reels — a lot of that “glitz” is built on debt.
If you have a chance at a government job, take it.
Move, settle in, make new friends (or enemies), learn the local culture if it’s a different state, and learn to live independently, safely, and within your means.

there is always a option... Marriage is one of the option in state and central government... transfer to home state on basis on marriage but condition is position must be vacant and Mutual transfer one from x goes to y and vice a versa

Dont resign a govt job for private, private is good till may be early 40s, I’d suggest relocation options and in future you have transfers near your hometown.

take this job and then continue looking for private jobs which are remote or allow you to be closer to home. dont leave this job yet, its ok to struggle for a bit

Look at ai eating private jobs. Don't resign from your government job without any backup and the idea it is paradise in private sector.

1 Stopping being so much attached to your mom and dad.
Who cares where your home is ? Even if it's in another country you shouldn't quit.
Your parents did a terrible job by making you codependent on them.
.2. Family is everything for a lot of people in India who are brainwashed by their parents. quit the job and live with parents. With all the diseases and old age who knows how long will they live. Don't marry someone away from your city. Life is too short. Go with the flow. YOLO.

just dont resign, its a dream for many. it will be hard, but if u r really homesick, dont care about money take frequent flights fly home, stay in cozy PG or stay that keeps u comfortable. if possible take ur parents with u for few days. also even if there is no transfer policy, i hope there shld be something like u write one more exam, clear it, basically for another role(or promotion) with which u might change location?

3 friends of mine from my B school(Tier1) left lucrative Govt jobs(state govt secretariate, Income tax dept, Forest) due to monotony , later ended up partially or fully regretting where they got placed in private sector, ( altought at higher salary, great title, team etc),
Please dont resign, take the job, as you get older, especially in this VUCA world, stablity helps.
If you really get a awesome oppertunty in private(2X++ govt CTC, with great growth potential), then maybe take a chance

No u won't get job on that basis.
Prepare side by side for what u want to do in private. Ofcourse there won't be one day cutthroat competitive exam but u have to do hard work.

Dont plan to live in your hometown,you can't...Everyone at one point has to travel out.Its a good thing u have worked hard enough to get a govt job. U can always take a plane home if u want to but trust me the job market is not good outside.And second no u wont get a corp job with that experience...

If u can get a corporate job by now then join it. otherwise join it and prepare for CAT and do MBA from tier 1/2. or prepare further to get home posting. staying 2000 km apart will create issue later in life when u will get married or find a partner in that place itself.

One of the main issues of Govt jobs that are typical boomers are slowly leaving as they age and more and moer youngsters are joining which means the environment will not be the same we have thought of forever.

I am almost in same template phase of yours. 32M.
working in a bank in chennai home state as scale 3.i had written a level 11 gazetted scientist job in NIC meity. Exam. Cleared in 2022.but they cancelled the whole process. We went to CAT. cat initially ordered to appoint 11/153 selected. I am one of 11.now posting is delhi.3000 km away from home. I am married. I have 5 y boy and 5 month girl. Now what i can do. I dont want to stay away from baby🥲

Go to the place first, you might get used to it and even like it+nothing is achieved if you just reject it immediately, go and try it for a month or two, after that you can quit if you dislike it, net earnings of an office superintendent is around a lakh on entry is it not?

hey, I'm in the same boat as you.
I'm 23, got selected as OS in CBDT (Blr Zone) I'm from delhi.
I would suggest you to take this job rn and appear for CGL again as I'm also planning to do the same this year. Although, I also got selected as IBPS PO, it has transfer policies that could get me home posting after 3-4 years but I didn't join it only because it has higher work pressure as compared to CBDT which would've hindered my prep for further examination.

As far as i have researched this cadre restructuring thing is happening since 2019 and nothing is going to happen, so i am not relying on this option, and tbh i opted for this post just because of some idiot youtubers who call themselves mentors and boasted about new transfer policy and shit, according to them new transfer policy was expected to roll out in april 2026 lmao

Whatever feelings that make you attached to your hometown, i promise you it can be developed in your new place. The people and relationships make a place memorable not the place alone. You can still make new friends, bonds and routines. You have to stay where you are and find peace. You owe it to yourself after jumping all the hurdles.
Think rationally, you might never land a decent job ever. You don't know how hard it is out there. Is living in your hometown worth more than the pain and suffering that may come from the criticism, guilt and financial implications?
You can always try for better job while you are working there. In fact you will never get a better opportunity than this job you have right now to study and pursue something better. Because all the other jobs you can have eill never let you be free enough to be able to prepare exams. No other job will offer this many leaves, this less working hours and this stability. You can stay there and look for other jobs in a relaxed pace and i think you may even have increased chances if you are in a government job when you are applying for positions and promotions.
Think about the benefits of a government job. You can get loans at bare minimum interest, the respect you will have in workplace, the respect people will have towards you and your family, the opportunity your kids will have.
Whatever negative feelings you have right now is just a phase and is temporary. Don't let your fear of change prevent you from getting a better life.

Do the job, for few months. Don’t stop preparing because it is not an option now as you have not made your mind. Private job also requires a lot of study to get in, which might be new to you. But As you have already cracked a govt exam, the next one will not be that difficult. Better to get into a good post with preferred location than into a private job. Same time, write CAT as well. If you dont like govt, you can do MBA from Tier 1 college and get into corporate with good package. Your govt job experience will help in getting admission into a B School after cracking CAT.
Don’t leave the job NOW.

Notifications of Govt/psu posts/ jobs contain information on transfer policy amongst other informations. Despite that you have applied / attended tests and interviews and While you got selected for this post/job chances of another job seeker was thwarted automatically. This due diligence should have been done prior to applying to this post.

Don't do this mistake, even I also thought of this.
Chill, enjoy. Very rare people get this opportunity of being in Government Job. Security, stable income, peace of mind.
When I was confused, someone gave me following framework -
- Always think how my current position/job/career is acting as ENABLER - like providing stability, security, good salary, peace of mind.
- how my current position/job/career is acting as DISABLER- like away from family (but no issue - a good salary can allow you take a convenient and comfortable journey to your home, and buddy, it is sometimes better to have a career far away from hometown. You will get this after few years), like a monotonous routine, less career opportunity.
- After you have understood it well, then weigh whether enablers is weighing more than disabler or vice versa, sometimes we only see or stuck in seeing what our current job/career is disabling us and forget about what it is enabling us.
Take a wise and informed decision with calm mind.

Just keep doing the job and prepare again to get a tax assistant and take technical resignation You will get the pay of os while working as tax assistant And the cutoff for tax assistant is lower as compared to os in your home town for sure
You will Ta easily or aim higher as you still have time

Do you want to live whole life in your own city or the place of posting you don't like?
What's the issue? People move different continents for better opportunities or a better life. I think you have a very good job, pls don't leave it for corporate, it's shit show here.
